If you are privy to the Washingtonian social circles, you must have heard of Il Canale, a celebrity hot spot in the heart of the nation capital's neighborhood Georgetown. Everyone in the Who's Who in American Power playbook has dined here. Il Canale has been a go-to place of journalists, actors and heads of states from Hillary Clinton to Brigitte Macron to Nancy Pelosi to Ivanka Trump. Harrison Ford likes to come here when he is in town, and when he shows up, it's very low key.

A:
It is, i dont normally like home made pasta but this was delicious. Made with wheat from Italy! I live in New york and there's no shortage of great Italian restaurants. This place not only holds up but surpasses many. Highly recommend!

Gnocchi was to die for. Very authentic italian food! We also got pizza that was delicious.

That was the best meatball I have ever had! So soft, moist, and tasty. It was a perfect meatball. My girlfriend got the seafood pasta which was so good the sauce was infused with white wine and seafood flavor and was delicious. My pizza and penne with creamy tomato sauce and salmon were also some of the best that ever had. This was a perfect date night place and made my valentine's day date amazing. There was a little bit of a wait but the service was fast even on a busy day like valentine's day, and the staff was very kind and always filled my water without me even asking.

I love our visits to Washington, always a treat and Georgetown is our favorite district to stay. We've been lucky enough to be visitors many times over the years and just like the rest of America, businesses come and go, but Il Canale has "stay power." It just doesn't change, always busy and always serving up a really delicious plate of food.
Beautiful pasta, pizza, meat and fish.
Service is top notch and believe me, the management keeps a close eye on customer enjoyment- many thanks!
Can't leave Washington without another visit! This place is a real "10"- no doubt about it! - 125903/26/2023
Extremely loved this place for the food and service. Everything was so ainthentic and rich in taste. The best thing was we called at 9.30 pm on a Friday to get a reservation for 9.45 pm and we got one.
Ambience was wonderful with lots of history about the place. I was surprised and thrilled to get to know that so many personalities such as Nancy Pelosi, Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump etc., have visited this place.
I can keep writing as I totally fell in love with everything about the restaurant. Even their breads were imported from Italy. The service was amazing and we didn't have to wait very long for the food to arrive. Last but not the least, you get a free Canoli (Pistachio) when you check in to yelp. Also this restaurant ranked in top 40s in Yelp. - Pranay R.San Diego, CA289203/26/2023
A vegetarian review!
The restaurant was very crowded (which was expected, given its popularity). There was a long line outside but we had a reservation (highly recommend this).
Inside, it was expectedly noisy (also, to be expected). Review of our order below:
Bruschetta con caponata: Very eggplant heavy. I don't particularly like eggplant but my party does! Based on their reaction I say this was good.
Gnocchi: This was good. We were split between ordering a gnocchi or the ravioli. In the end I think the gnocchi was a better choice; I think the tomato sauce was better choice. However, I don't think the gnocchi used potatoes, and it was a little over cooked/mushy.
Vegetariana Rossa: The first time the waiter brought out this pizza it was cold, a cardinal sin of any pizza shop. Fortunately, the service was excellent and they promptly brought out another one. This was just okay.
For dessert we had the tiramisu and cannoli
Cannoli: Very good! We got this for free through a yelp check in, but there were quite a few pieces, good cream and pistachio flavor.
Tiramisu: Slightly better than average. Nothing explicitly wrong but nothing extraordinary. I'd get the cannoli over tiramisu if I had to pick one.
Knocked off a couple stars because the food quality was overall subpar, but the service was very good so I gave one back. 4/5 overall. - 2492423783/25/2023
I usually don't waltz into a 5-star rating for every other restaurant unless it stands out, like I'm Canale.
The ambience was too-notch and it's usually hard to get a reservation so we reserved in advance through Yelp. I was so excited for Italian food after a long museum day.
Must-try:
San Maranzo pizzas
Pistachio Canolli
Garlic olive oil dip/side
Ravioli
We were treated with a plate of breads. The bread was cold and hard and hard to bite but totally loved the olive-oil side with a lump of garlic in it.
The menu was friendly for vegetarians too! Loved how they had list of San Maranzo pizza and the ones without them separately. Of course I chose an authentic Neapolitan pizza - vegetarian Rossa. It was mix of bells shrooms and strong hint of basil!
Pastas selection was huge too and we were recommended with the Ravioli Al Porcini E Tartufo. Those succulent raviolis should be eaten hot. I should say these are one of the best raviolis I have ever eaten!
Don't forget to get your complementary pistachios cannoli di ricotta alla Siciliana. They get dipped with pistachios in their ends.
Realized I had to lower the rating to a 4 since the bread was too hard to consume.

Easy dive star spot. They are top 100 restaurants in the USA for a reason! Wow we were so impressed we went back later in the week. Great food! Great service!
Food: my god! Some of the best pizza I have ever had in my life. Top notch! So much flavor. You can tell everything is fresh and high quality. Every single bite of pizza was Amazing. The ravioli was so dam good! Very flavorful and top notch. The cannoli was really good too.
This is a very great place to try out asap. If you live in the area and or visiting you must definitely stop in and give it a try. I would come here once a week if I lived in the area. So dam good. Top notch. Not even a fan of Italian at all but I would come here once a week and try all of their offerings. Top notch ! - 12544518803/16/2023
Based on Yelp reviews, I decided to try this rest. Got to say..it was really good. Started with the Arancini (which was our least favorite dish) to dessert. Things went up. Lobster ravioli. Fantastic. Filled with a generous amount of lobster (which is rare). Linguini with clams, shrimps and mussels..awesome, and gnocchi..what more to say. Melted in the mouth..great bolognese sauce. For dessert..we had chocolate Gelato, tiramisu. This one was served in a cup.would have liked a strong coffee flavor but was good..ahhh but the cannolli.. that was was superb. If you are undecided...go for the cannolli.
Service was fantastic. Go early for dinner..it was busy. I made a Yelp reservation and got there about 30 mins early and got seated right away. Within 15 mins, the line wait was long. - 228136412973/11/2023
Came here for dinner on a Monday evening with a friend who was in town visiting. Choose this spot based off the amount of high rated Yelp reviews given.
Service is really good. We originally sat outside, but then asked to be moved inside as it got chilly pretty suddenly. They were accommodating to the request. Our waitress was pretty good with giving us time to look at the menu, getting back with us when we weren't ready, and made good recommendations. After we were served our food, she was very good at checking in on us.
Food-wise, I ordered the Lobster Ravioli ($26), which was one of the recommended items suggested by the waitress. Five reasonably sized raviolis, just made sure you cut them up and savior every bite. Overall it is pretty good and reasonable in terms of the pricing.
If you check in on Yelp, you can get two complementary cannolis, which is a great way to end the meal.
