I spilled water all over my retina Macbook Pro. I shipped my laptop across the country to The Mac Geniuses. They repaired my water-damaged computer for less than the price the Apple Store quoted to me (Apple would have charged me $12,500. They charged me $881).
From what I can tell, my machine is working exactly as it was before the spill. So I can't fault them for their repair work. I paid a lot of money to get it fixed and obviously I'm not happy about that, but it was still HUNDREDS less that the Apple Store price. so I can't fault them for that either.
However, the customer service was sub-par. They provide no updates on repair status unless you call them. After I sent payment on June 12, they did not even respond acknowledging receipt of the payment and confirming that repair work on my machine would begin. After hearing nothing for 8 days, I eventually called them on Thursday June 20th, and was told that my machine was in final testing and would be shipped out the following day. The next day I called again and was told that my machine was in final testing and would be shipped out on Monday. Then on Monday I called them and was told that my machine was in final testing and would be shipped out the following day.
After I expressed my frustration, they volunteered to expedite my shipping at no additional cost to me, which was very considerate of them--and this time the computer really WAS shipped the following day. But I can't give them full marks because I shouldn't have to call every day to hear about delays--if you tell me it'll ship tomorrow, and then there's a delay, that's perfectly fine with me but you really should let me know.
If you've done water damage to your laptop, then price-wise these guys are almost certainly your best bet. But you should be prepared for some frustration in dealing with them.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - K B.Nine Mile Falls, WA01Aug 20, 2024
To say that I am grossly appalled at the "customer service" we received from Apple yesterday would be the understatement of the century. After their system glitch that cost us any gas in our car, a roof over our head for the night, and wasted two days of hard work that we spent earning those funds, the employees that "assisted" us ranging from customer service representatives to corporate, were equal parts insensitive, disrespectful, accusatory, and honestly essentially useless. They gave no helpful solution to fix the problem that they caused, and their tone and attitudes were condescending, phony, and incredibly infuriating.
Long story short, after having spent thirteen years in a variety of customer service positions, I am very sad to say, that is the worst display of human decency let alone "skills" that I have ever witnessed. I am almost ashamed to admit that I have owned their products, and to be completely honest, I think that all of them ought to seriously reconsider their job description that labels them a "genius." It is truly a slap in the face to anyone that actually has a brain.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Charlotte H.Los Angeles, CA1186619Mar 12, 2019Updated review
Update: They tried to sue every single person that left them a bad review. I honestly can't fathom the ego of the owner. Not only is the service bad, but how immature are you to go way back into years of reviews and try and sue every single person? Honestly the emails from their lawyers were just bullying tactics.
Please learn some manners. You have good thing going for you, and offer a service people need. Why not hire a PR firm or something. Or just be honest with people that it'll take months for them to get back their units. Also, they lied to my credit card and got themselves paid an extra $300. Hope that helps pay your bills. You prob need it.

Received my Macbook back after 3 months of waiting, I do have to say that my Macbook is working as it was before I spilled water on it BUT, lots of emails and phone calls on my part, very poor and slow customer service on their end. They take a while to reply to my emails, slow to update and kept increasing the wait time. - Rachel L.Philadelphia, PA1608Jan 24, 2017Updated review
Received an email communication from the company threatening to sue me for my honest review of the company on Yelp. This is the worst "company" I have ever encountered... they really treat their customers terribly. I would advise everyone to steer clear.
Multiple other customers have contacted me in the same situation where the company would not return their laptops, and they were threatened with a lawsuit.Helpful 16Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Oct 10, 2016Previous reviewThis company's better business bureau (BBB) rating is an F -- http://www.bbb.org/houston/business-reviews/computers-service-and-repair/the-mac-geniuses-in-houston-tx-90028823/
Once you enter your information into the website, you receive continuous customer service requests (email and phone) to send in your laptop. During all of those communications, I was led to believe the diagnostic was free, and a cost for the diagnostic was certainly never disclosed. Be aware that you will get a bill for $230+ if you decide not to move forward with their repair (in my case, the estimate for repair that they provided was the absolute highest price listed as well). I completely understand a business' need to charge for the work it does, however, I expect a business to be transparent with customers and disclose an amount like $230 so that a customer can make an informed decision before shipping in such a valuable item. I felt this practice of hiding this amount was extremely deceptive, and based on my experience and the other negative helper experiences, they probably have an inventory of laptops they have gained from customers not being aware of or able/willing to pay the $230 to get their laptops back. - Luke K.Half Moon Bay, CA320115Dec 28, 2016
They returned my laptop to me after 102 days, since it was received by them on September 23rd, 2016. They did not respond to phone calls, emails or ticket updates until this yelp review was posted, after I posted a review they shipped my laptop back to me 3 days later, but not in working order.
Upon getting my computer back, it now boots, but the keyboard and trackpad do not work!
They charged me $522 for this repair, but did not completely fix the unit. So after a huge amount of time, they sent me back a broken computer.
After receiving a negative review due to the lack of communication and them not repairing my laptop they have threatened a lawsuit based on an out of date terms of service.
I would not do business with this company as they do not communicate or serve their customers. 3 other people have contacted me since posting this review and they were threatened with the non-return of their computers as well as lawsuits.
The Consumer Review Fairness Act of 2016 signed into law on December 15th, 2016 makes the section 4 of their terms of service unenforceable based on true reviews.

Months without communication or updates. Paid 863$ to have my MacBook repaired, 4 months later I've had maybe 4 responses only when I message them relentlessly, calling and leaving a message does nothing. They said my phone number did not work (works just fine)
The last update I received stated my laptop was "infamous" in the tech room but they had made significant progress and should be shipping your laptop next week!
That was three weeks ago still no response. Please everyone do yourself a favor and just pay Apple.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Andrew C.Waco, TX01Apr 5, 2017
Doing business with I-geniuses has been regrettably awful. I sent them my laptop back in October of 2016 and have not heard a word from them since December 15th 2016 despite many requests via phone, Facebook, and an online communicating platform called Repairshop. I posted a negative review on Google back in December and was informed by I-geniuses that they were going to press charges if I did not take it down. Thanks to Luke K. for making me aware of my rights to free speech!

So here I am writing my account of how this business has taken my computer and $600 and won't even return communication for nearly a third of year!! I do not know if I will ever see my computer again, and since I do not know what they are doing with it if they will not return my communication I will be changing all of my passwords. Horrible choice on my part, but I promise to learn from this mistake and to always check the BBB rating before handing over personal property!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - N D.Hampton, GA275May 5, 2020
Never got my computer back! I was able to get the repair money from my bank after waiting for two months. Beware!!!

I have been waiting over a month for my laptop to be repaired. They keep missing their promised delivery date and I've finally realized why. They only accept payment via Paypal and Paypal policy states:
A dispute must be opened within 45 days of the transaction date. If your dispute is opened more than 45 days after the transaction date, it will be automatically closed.
I guess that's how they make their money if it's not an easy fix.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Emily J.Indianapolis, IN01Jan 18, 2017
Whatever you do, do not send your macbook to this company! Last year, I had them fix my macbook because of liquid damage, while it took sending my macbook back and forth a couple of times, I finally thought I had a working macbook. In August of 2016 (5 months ago) I sent my macbook back under warranty once again because it was freezing or shutting down within seconds of turning it on. Since then I have only been in contact with i-Geniuses maybe 5 times, and each time I have reached them I have called or emailed multiple times in order to get a response.
The last contact I had with them was in early December, over a month ago and I was told my computer was in final testing (they seem to say this almost every time). Since then I have called 5+ times a day, sent 3 emails, and filed a complaint with the BBB and still no response. This is absolutely unacceptable for a business to treat their customers this way. Not to mention theft if they don't return my computer.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
