Still my favorite sub in San Diego. I get the Turkey Italiano add mustard and pickles. The pickles are so good. They'll customize any way you want and have the freshest ingredients. Hot or cold any way you like. Big enough to eat half for lunch and half for dinner.

Side note. It's funny people complain about "whole" lettuce leaves as if bagged shredded lettuce is higher quality...

I don't like coconut but their macaroon changed my mind. The cannoli are tasty too and made to order. My only suggestion is the old manager used to give regulars a cookie while we waited :) A nice touch that i wouldn't mind returning!!

Best Sandwich Shop Ever!!!

You walk in and are instantly welcomed by the aroma fresh baked pizza and its house made ingredients. The sandwich menu is full of classics beyond delight with a perfectly toasted bread. All while picture perfect cookies stare ate you as you attempt to not order everything on the menu.

None of this means anything without the friendly service and neighborhood vibes that you can only get here in OB.

Hungry Lou's is my favorite sandwich in all of ocean beach. The fellas there rock and always deliver a delicious sub.

Hands down the BEST Italian sandwich in SD! My husband and I love the Italian sub, heated, add cherry peppers. Every time we order a sandwich, it's somehow even more delicious than the last! This sandwich is perfection and it's always consistent in taste and quality! Fast service and a super friendly team! Can't rave about their sandwiches enough - Forever a fan!

Do yourself a favor and get the rustics pizza a(with pesto!) and a few cookies. Cannolis and macaroons are made on site and to die for. Service is friendly but casual and definitely loved by locals

Pastries are amazing !!!!Customer Service is great too. The personal pizzas are very good too just wish they would cook them a little bit crispier because every time I told them all done they never do it

We stopped here to pick up some cannolis to surprise my cannoli-fan mom for her birthday. There is only one kind at Hungry Lu's - sweet ricotta with chocolate chips - but I have to say the ricotta filling is the best I've had. Much better than the cannoli spot at Liberty Station.

We also picked up an oatmeal raisin cookie. (Honestly I was hoping for more Italian baked goods). It was quite good as well.

There's also a Grab N Go Subs inside, which appears to be the main part of their business.

My 12-year-old daughter thought it was a good idea to chat up the guy who came out of Hungry Lu's wearing a "World's Best Farter" t-shirt by saying (with no explanation): "Do you give free samples?" (face palm) I had to explain to him that she was talking about his shirt and then he thought it was hilarious. But seriously, daughter of mine, don't talk up random burn-outs who are the type to wear a t-shirt that says "World's Greatest Farter."

I've been coming here for over a decade and am impressed each time whether I get a sandwich, pizza or cookies. Everyone working there and is always cordial and get the food prepared pretty quickly.
