Omg how I love this place. I was recently introduced to this spot by a friend. The first time I went I was a little apprehensive, as I am a home baker & tend to be extremely picky. But boy was I in for a sweet surprise. My first visit I ordered a little of everything. Once I got home & tasted the double chocolate cupcakes & oatmeal raisin cookies I was upset that I didn't buy more. The cupcake literally melted in my mouth & the oatmeal cookie was another vibe on its own. First off oatmeal cookies have been my favorite cookie since I was a young child, and that hasn't changed. So getting back to the cookie, the edges are slightly crunchy, but still moist enough that not too many crumbs drop, the center of the cookie compares to me laying in bed next to my Grandmommy as a child. I picked up on hints of molasses, but not too overpowering. There's just the right amount of raisins & a slight touch of cinnamon (if any). Hummingbird is a definite 10 in my books. Customer was just as good

We had an impromptu NFC party Go NINERS! It was a no brainer we would get pastries from Hummingbird. We did an assortment of German chocolate cake, Sweet potato pie, pineapple cupcake with cute 49er decorations and of course the signature Hummingbird cupcake. As always everything was delicious. I also learned they have Happy Hour on Sunday from 4 to 5!

Poor customer service.
During walk-in on 2/11/2024 I ordered 2 Hummingbird Cakes, 1 Caramel Cake, 1 German Chocolate Cake, 10 Cookies, 1 large cinnamon roll.
Discovered later in the day I was missing the German Chocolate Cake. Tried calling on Monday (12th) but they were closed. Called on Tuesday (13th) & was told someone would call me back in 30-45 mins. No call back. Called again Thursday (15th) & was told to call on Friday. Today (Friday 16th) lady who assisted me on 11th said I ordered & was given a Pineapple Coconut Cake which is not true. She told me there was only a slice of the Coconut, not a whole cake why I ordered a German Chocolate. German Chocolate Cake is listed on my receipt. Then she said I should have resolved issue same day however I realized mistake after they were closed. Then she said I was too far pass actual transaction date. I explained that. She then offered a $10 coupon. Cake cost $50!! And I would have to drive from Oakland to Vallejo with $7 toll charge. I wasn't even offered a credit to my card. If she reviewed the video feed she would see, I & my son walked out with just 3 cakes. I feel this is poor customer service & not fair conflict resolution. I'm very disappointed.

Bad service try to pick up cake for a dinner party. Of course they said their cakes are made fresh and thats a lie . The cake they gave me was frozen like an ice cream cake and the cake was dry. The cookies in jar tasted stale. They said oreo cale was a popular one they lied again. Much more better quality cakes at safeway way cheaper . The cake taste like a cake from food max or foodco. Never against not even worth drive . I posted the oreo cake below

Went back, still 5 stars. 4/5 things I got were phenomenal. Hummingbird cake is the best. Avoid the banana foster cupcake though, it was dry and inedible.

Ordered a cake for pickup at 2pm. Showed up at 2:30 and they were still decorating my cake! With frozen goods in the car but I had no choice but to wait. When they finally show me the cake at 3pm, I was shocked to see such a cake. I trusted this establishment.

Visual appeal: (1/10)
I provided inspiration pictures of what I wanted. Overall, the work was sloppy and rushed. The cake itself was fairly simple however it's clear that the workmanship was questionable. I sent the cake back twice to be touched up because the sprinkles were not added and the top had ample empty space. I came to a conclusion that there was no fix to such sloppy work.

Pricing: $114 (3/10)
To my surprise - this 2 layer white cake with strawberries (there were hardly ANY strawberries in the middle) was $114. I asked for a breakdown because this was actually shocking. Apparently the poorly decorated dipped strawberries were $30. And the gold foil is $20. The decorator emphasized just how costly this foil is as if it were actually 24k I totally understand the need to charge for labor and materials but at least add more foil to justify!

Service: (2/10)
The owner then tried to make the cake look "better" and started throwing rings and footballs on it but her hands were so shaky she smeared it a few times! She actually made it worse. She stated: "I told them not to do the football strawberries!" So clearly she agreed they were sloppy. Interesting...

She refused to do anything and gave me a $20 certificate? As if I'd ever come back here. A homeless in vallejo will greatly appreciate this voucher I'll be handing off. So horrible, clearly unskilled, and they should have informed me they were incapable of doing the "football" strawberry design. Overall, horrible quality and customer service. Waited longer than needed for work that looked like a 5th grader could have done.

As a business owner myself - I would only ever be proud to produce quality service and goods to my customers and if there were concerns voiced to me I'd look inwardly. Old school mindset and after looking at all the horrible reviews I'm not sure how this place is still in business. Everyone actually laughed at the cake. So embarrassing. If there's ever a design you can't do just be forthcoming and one would understand!

Ordered a chocolate cake from here a couple days prior to my event. Placed the order over the phone and the person helping me was very nice and accommodating. Easy pick up process too and the cake turned out perfectly. Very tasty and everyone loved it.

They have cupcakes available too which I've ordered in the past and they were amazing! Definitely check this place out if you need desserts for your event.

I needed a last minute pound cake and they delivered! It was good too! Their reviews are mixed, but take a chance! If you need a quick cake this is your place!

I am writing this review to express my extreme disappointment and frustration with the recent experience I had at Hummingbird Bakery. I purchased a cake from them this morning for my daughter's birthday, and to my shock and dismay, I discovered that the cake was frozen.

I had no idea that the cake was frozen until I attempted to cut into it. The texture was incredibly hard, making it a struggle to even make a dent. It felt more like cutting into an ice cream cake than a regular cake. Despite my confusion, I persisted and finally managed to cut a few slices. However, to my horror, the cake came out completely frozen, as if it had just been taken out of the freezer.

I cannot express how disappointed I am in Hummingbird Bakery for selling me a frozen cake and attempting to pass it off as "cold storage." As a customer, I expect freshness and quality when purchasing a cake, especially for a special occasion like my daughter's birthday. This incident not only ruined the surprise and joy of the celebration but also left me questioning the bakery's integrity and commitment to delivering exceptional products.

I feel compelled to warn others to exercise caution when considering purchasing cakes from Hummingbird Bakery. It is unacceptable to sell frozen cakes under the guise of "cold storage." Customers deserve transparency and honesty, and this experience has left me feeling deceived and disheartened.

I sincerely hope that Hummingbird Bakery takes this feedback seriously and takes immediate steps to rectify this issue. Customers should not have to worry about receiving frozen cakes when purchasing from a reputable bakery. Very dissappointed in the cake this year!!! They went down hill in my opinion. Was told they were to busy....i shoulda known

It's been a while since I've been here but I remember the cupcakes being pretty big. I've become somewhat of a cupcake snob since I've been exposed to several of the bay's gems (ahem Cupcakin' Bakeshop). I do love that this bakery exists in Vallejo - it was in dire need of a dessert spot that has the variety of options that Hummingbird offers.

Although the cupcakes were big, cute with a variety of flavors, they were just ok-tasting, kinda cakey and not that moist. I'll have to give them another try to see if there have been some improvements, but that's what I remember.
