This is a very charming store located in a back ally of Georgetown that fills a much needed niche in men's fashion. My husband has trouble finding shirts off the rack that fit him properly (they're always either too long, too roomy, or the arm barrels are too wide), and we were looking for a local store so that we could hopefully wean him off of custom-made shirts.

We were greeted by the Bradley Cooper-esque James (I believe that was his name), who was very friendly and helpful in finding the right size and fit for my husband. The shirts definitely fit his frame much better than any other off-the-rack shirt that we've tried, with a cut that actually fit his torso without falling way too low below his belt line. The sleeves were also more narrow than most of the boxy shirts you find elsewhere, and the sewing appears to be of high quality.

Being a little picky with patterns and designs, the only thing I would have liked to see is a little more variety, as their patterns seemed to be on the conservative side. Also, keep in mind they do not actually have a dressing room but a workspace/warehouse in the back of the store, which has windows facing the ally (although the racks of shirts cover most of the view). I imagine it's not a big deal as it is a men's shirt store, but something to keep in mind for the extremely modest or shy.

The sleeves were still a little too long, but we were told that we could have them altered for about $15. Considering that the shirts are about $85/piece, this will bring the price up to the three-digit range. We left happily with two shirts. The shirts have not yet been worn/washed, so we'll have to see how they hold up. So far, I'd say a solid four stars, with potential for an upgrade if the shirts maintain their quality and size with a few washings.

I went to Hugh & Crye for an appointment yesterday, excited about the prospect of finally finding a dress shirt that fits just right. With my "average skinny" fit saved in my email, I found my way into their downstairs studio-like area. I walked into their design studio area, which is utilitarian but reminds you of walking into a tech startup, and was greeted by Fred. After giving him a quick overview of what I was looking for, we got started trying on shirts of a few different types.

While the fit of their trimmest dress shirt was OK in the sense that designers like Calibrate are OK, I found the shirt to be super long. Like longer than even a typical dress shirt from a department store. The darting on the sides is reasonably good, but there was still definitely some extra fabric in the back. As others have pointed out, the fabric is thinner than one might expect, such that you can see an undershirt underneath, for instance. I tried a few other shirts and a blazer, which gave me what I call the "superman" effect where the blazer bulges out when I move my arms.

Fred was very helpful and understanding when nothing fit quite right. So, back to the drawing board.

Lucas (my Hugh and Crye support guy) was hands down the most thoughtful purveyor of customer service I've had the pleasure of receiving in quite a long while. He was with me from the pop-up chat notification on your website all the way through the trials and tribulations of fitting and returns. His responses were always courteous, he was never impatient, he offered clear and concise recommendations, and his replies were always expeditious. The icing on the cake: he included a hand written thank you on my most recent order. What universe of thoughtfulness does this gentleman (and likely scholar) come from?!?

I hate clothes shopping but if Lucas is there to guide me count me in. Hugh and Crye if you keep this up you'll have my business for a good long time.

We went here to get a dress shirt for my husband for our upcoming wedding. The staff is very nice and friendly. Unfortunately, they don't have all of their stock in store and it takes a while to special order, so we were limited in what colors we could choose. The shirt fit well and the groom loved it.

They also 3D print their own collar stays!

I was highly disappointed with two shirts I purchased from Hugh & Crye. After reading the 5 star perfect reviews on Yelp I had to visit. I ended up buying two shirts...Yes, they do have a variety of unique sizing options, but its a gimmick. Either the shirt is custom or its off the rack. Spending more for a "special" size that fits you better than the other off the rack shirts doesn't actually make it special or worth more.

When I asked about fixing the sleeve length of the shirt they recommended I go to the tailor across the road and pay an additional $20 per shirt on top of the $240 I already spent. Err...no thanks.

Disappointed, I went to Banana Republic and purchased one of their "high end" shirts on sale for less than the cost of the Hugh & Crye shirt. Two months later and the Banana Republic shirt is my favorite work horse blue shirt, the blue Hugh & Crye has lost a lot of coloring and has had more shrinkage than any of my other shirts. The collar no longer fits, now I need to purchase a collar extender to keep wearing it. And the sleeves aren't a issue anymore either. Those have shrunk to a manageable length.

This was my last attempt to find a local shirt source, but I've decided to just order my custom shirts directly from my old tailor in Hong Kong. Paying more than $80 for a dress shirt that isn't a custom fit is just a waste of money.

Terrific service and pretty good shirts. Went in to pick up some shirts I ordered from the website and ended up having to swap them out because they didn't fit quite right. I have a larger chest and broader shoulders with skinnier arms and waist, so a few styles went as things usually go for me with button front shirts: slim fits have strained upper buttons while regular fit or next size up look baggy. Fortunately, the oxford fit did work for me, and my guy (sorry, forget the name, this was a while back) helped me find some colors to work with what I had in my wardrobe and had them shipped to my house since they weren't on hand in my size. Really appreciated the personalized service here. Having been to a number of other places looking for proper fitting shirts, I've often received lackluster service at best or salespeople tried to press alteration services on me to make their baggy shirts fit my frame.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the shirts. They are a bit thin as I've seen another review mention, but that's not really a concern for me. I have a couple thicker, textured oxfords and wasn't really looking for that.

I purchase shirts for my boyfriend and he loves how all the shirts fit. The material and quality is worth the price and service. They are a smaller company but the service is equivalent to as if it were a big company. I hope word of mouth gets out more so they can grow.

Since hughe&crye started shirt making, they've stayed true to what they committed to. And that is getting everyone to wear a shirt that is nothing but a custom made shirt. Anytime I wear a hughe&crye shirt, I get lots and lots of compliments. I will always recommend them to everyone. Go for it guys!!!!!!!
