9/29/2014Truly a great experience at The Hub!
I was able to rent a bike for $7 on the weekend, or $5 on a weekday. The bike itself was extremely well maintenanced, super smooth ride and a lot of fun to maneuver. Helmet rentals also available.
The staff was friendly and accommodating. However, these are definitely hipster bikes - no athletic bikes here. If you're looking for something athletic, go somewhere else. - Carol R.Manhattan, NY0163
9/27/2014George knows bikes in and out and, for all of the negative reviewers who say he has an attitude, well, he has no patience for the hipster biking scene. I have had minor repairs done there and have been charged hardly anything ($5.00) My daughter did a school internship there and was treated extremely well, learned to repair bikes, and learned why Citi Bikes is the worst thing that could happen to independent bike shops like the Hub (something we already knew, but not to what extent).
At the Hub you will get fair prices, wonderful workmanship, and you will be supporting an independent bike shop, something that we who live in NYC should be doing as these shops are dwindling away to corporate sponsored bike shares. - Virginia R.New York, NY136147478
11/2/2010Awesome location, beautiful selection of bikes (from used, vintage to shiny brand new), accessories and friendly staff!
Brought my Rollfast cruiser in to finally get a bike basket.. It was 30$ and they mounted it for free, put air in my tires and even threw in a pink bike bell! SWEET.
For all of you haters, it's a business in New York City... Go cry yourself to Model's or Sports Authority. - Shelby H.New York, NY0167
3/19/2011Great bikes, very reasonable rates, and awesome employees.
My friend and I wanted to cruise around Manhattan the other day, and they gave us European bikes with baskets and a lock for $5/hour. Unlike many rentals, these bikes were in mint condition and were very user-friendly. The employees were extremely helpful, no attitude whatsoever. (And if you're a pet person, the manager has the cutest little dog you have ever seen.)
For those who want to rent, I definitely recommend this place! - Jason M.New York, NY8721
8/25/2014This place is absolutely top-notch.
I came across it two weeks ago when a friend needed to rent a bike. The rental rates were the best we found in city and the staff was extremely helpful. While I was waiting for my friend to get her rental I was looking over their extensive inventory of new and used utilitarian city bikes-- old Schwins to Amsterdam uprights-- when I spied a handsome green Schwin from the 70's. The salesperson was really cool about answering my questions, and ended up giving me a really fair price in credit for my old bike towards the purchase of that vintage Schwin. Their prices for used bikes are not the cheapest in the city, but each bike is completely tuned before it goes to sale, and comes with a 30 day warranty - Andrew R.Brooklyn, NY583
12/5/2012I stopped by this place since it's near my office. I've had a Swin Sports Bike for the last 6 years. It's an excellent shape, perfect for getting around the city. Think of it as a road bike with flat handle bars. The only reason I'm in the market for a new bike is because I'm giving this one to my girlfriend. At this point I'm just browing and seeing in what direction I want to head. Since I use my bike before for occassional commuting and long distance sport rides I'm hoping to find something in between (like my Swinn).
They only offer cruiser hipster bikes. The owner was completely rude when I asked him about road bikes or hybrids. He scoffed at me, "you've never been to Holland?" he said with disdain for my choice of bikes. "Road bikes are dangerous because you're all hunched down. In the same breadth he advocated for not wearing a helmet on one of his overpriced cruisers because "you look better." If he really cared about safety he'd suggest everyone wear a helmet. This is the worst experience I've ever had at bike shop in my entire life! - Michael S.New York, NY1091325
6/13/2012Fun to browse, rent and buy for the variety of bikes--some even quirky. Go elsewhere if you put customer service or newer bikes.
There are always dogs wandering about, so add a star if you're a dog lover. - Gingere L.New York, NY284223586
7/14/2013On a busy summer Saturday afternoon, I had flat back tires twice during the 10 mi biking tour, and we stopped by here to have the tires checked out. The store was mostly a rental of vintage and touring bikes, with repair shop in the back. When I verbally engaged the reluctant Vlad, the mechanic, about my concern, he explained that they charge $10 to take a look of the tires and $15 to change the tube.
After estimating of 15 min working time / waiting time, we agreed to proceed. Immediately, he thoroughly inspected the rubber tires, the metal rims and the components while I stood there and watched him. Then he inflated the tube and went to check it under the water for any leakage or air bubble. It took him nearly 10 min. While I was waiting, other staff checked on me to make sure I was being helped.
In the end he couldn't find anything wrong with my bike. As he felt bad for me, he only charged me $5 for his effort and time. He then pumped my tire to recommended psi & sent us off. This is why I recommend Hudson Urban Bicycles: I feel they work to make their customer happy. - Dominic C.Manhattan, NY012
10/3/2012Do not go here to get your bike fixed. They will not do anything they are supposed to, and will over promise . Amongst other things they were supposed to change the inner tube on my bike, but they didn't notice the tire had a huge piece of metal wire sticking out inside the tire, from the tire which was dry rotted. They are all about sales and the two guys fixing bikes in the back are rude and taciturn, and do not care.
Not a good experience. - Oriol B.New York, NY015
4/10/2013After seeing some of the reviews, I decided to stop by and take a look. It's not your typical store where you open a door and walk in to walls full of accessories and bikes on display, but rather a "store" that feels more like a garage than an actual bike shop. At first I was a little disappointed from the outside seeing the type of bikes they had, but after closer inspection I was able to find something that could suit my needs. Both persons that helped me out throughout my purchasing experience asked me if I wanted to try the bike, see how it feels...and I thought that was something really cool but also very important when buying a bike.
Thanks to HUB, now I can ride around town with a bike that fits my needs, I'm very happy with my experience and will continue going to them for any bike needs!
The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars is because I had to wait for a while before I received any help.
