To go Beer review:
I don't drink beer by my boyfriend does! So I noticed while I was at the children's museum the brewery! Stopped in. Based off my beer knowledge... I knew i needed ordering help to bring some home. The guy at the cashier station asked for assistance (nice job!) and another guy easily led me to my purchases. I walked out with 2 cans (the large ones- yeah I bet you know the term for them) and i spent around $16. Good deal. Fast service as well- freshly poured!
I have to say it smelt amazing in this place for food. I did see some plates go by and their food looked good!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Abbie M.Boston, MA1545376339May 11, 2020
We live nearby and often come in for dinner or takeout. Our go-to's are the buffalo chicken wings (so good), classic flatbread, and caesar salad. Now that I say that, it sounds completely boring, but keep in mind this is usually our "can't agree on anything else" spot. It's priced on the high side due to the location, but the portions are very generous.
The thing that's hit or miss is the service, which I hate to say but it seems systemic. This seems more like a management/staffing level problem than an employee problem, though. The individual people are very nice, when you can find one of them. We've walked in several times to find people at the bar and at tables, but no hostess, waitstaff, or bartender in sight... for several minutes.
Speaking of the bar, theirs is huge, which is nice for solo dining. Their outdoor seating is really nice in the summer, as well. This space is set up really well for larger corporate events, and I've had it in mind a few times. Their beer is, unsurprisingly, pretty excellent. You can't go wrong with one of their IPAs, and it's handy that you can buy cans to go. The fact that you can brew your own beer there is also pretty interesting!Helpful 14Thanks 0Love this 13Oh no 0 - Mar 20, 2018
Hopsters has a lot going for itself. First off, they have a beautiful venue that they have decorated really tastefully. When you walk in, they have striking light fixtures with a lot of various seating. There are tables and seating along the large windows that looks out on the busy streets of Boston, and then there are bigger dining areas with couch-like seating.
A couple friends and I decided to eat here on a night out in Boston. We thought it would be fun with it being a brewery, as well as a restaurant. When we walked in, we were greeted by the host, and sat down immediately (which is a rarity in Boston on a Friday night during St. Patty's day weekend). We were then quickly greeted by our host who answered many of our questions and always kept a smile. I ended up getting the Newington (I believe?) beer, which was a double IPA with a lot of fruity notes, and it was amazing!
As far as their menu, it's fairly limited. They have apps, some salad options, flatbread options, sandwiches, and some main dishes.
Our table ended up ordering the chicken tenders with buffalo sauce and BBQ sauce, as well as the pickle fries to start out with. The tenders were breaded in amazing breading and the fries were a nice touch to your typical chip-styled fried pickles. For my meal, I ordered the buffalo chicken flatbread, which was good. I wasn't crazy about the sauce they use on their flatbread, but it was good. One of my friends ordered a greek salad with chicken, and although there wasn't a lot of chicken, the salad was HUGE. My other friend decided on the lobster grilled cheese, which was also stuffed with lobster.
Overall, I like how Hopsters brews their own beer, and their food is decent! Definitely a place to check out when you are in the Boston area.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 27, 2018
Nice spot in the Seaport part of town, three of us were here for dinner. Burgers, beers, fries. All the usual good stuff. Try the pickle fries!
There were a couple of problems and they really need to get this fixed. On a Monday night, they were out of nachos (the first appetizer on the menu!), the first beer that I ordered and bleu cheese crumbles. "It was busy over the weekend," we were told.
When the food came, our waitress forgot the soup with the sandwich and the hot sauce we asked for.
But she was apologetic and nice about it.
I don't know how long Hopsters has been here but it seems that they still have a few bumps to iron out.Helpful 13Thanks 0Love this 10Oh no 0 - Feb 23, 2018
Noticed this place right after crossing over the Seaport Blvd. bridge. Big brewery/restaurant with large windows overlooking the area. Monday afternoon, plenty of seating available, but they still took 10 minutes to get us a table.
With all the options on tap, had to order a beer flight (4 tasters for $14). Big fan of the "Ship of Fools", a full bodied hoppy beer. On the other end, the "Captain Cooper" had too much of a whiskey flavor. For food, split the Mediterranean Sampler ($14) and the side of fries ($5). The sampler is way bigger than expected - three large dollops of hummus/tabbouleh/tzatziki served with pita bread and olives. Each had a rich flavor, though the tabbouleh stood out the most. Fries are warm and crispy.
After the moderate wait, the service picked up. Value here is pretty good for the slightly upscale bar food.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 2, 2018
I only stopped by for a beer. Had the Newtonian (an Imperial IPS), but wasn't impressed. However, the staff was was a lot of fun and the atmosphere good, so I'm going to say this place deserves another visit. We'll see if I can make it back before I go home. Stand by! If I don't make it, don't write them off, it's worth another visit!
Ok, I just went upstairs and it looked a lot more fun than downstairs, so check it out!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tommy P.Bridgeport, CT3652231Aug 16, 2019
Review for dinner on a Thursday night!
Surprisingly for the area and time that I went, it wasn't packed at all! Although, there were a lot of tables reserved for multiple multiple parties (which didn't arrive yet)
To the actual food and beer:
OH MY GOODNESS.... the portions are freaking ridiculously! For the fish and chips at least, it was a huge plate with tons of fries and a BIG SLAB of delicious fried fish. It was seasoned and fried to perfection. For the burger w/ lobster, that was also delicious! It is on the pricey side but get the fish and chips for money's worth!
For the beer selection, I had a flight of four choices and none of the beers really stood out to me except for the Beer Sangria! I recommend this place if you're in the area!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Heather G.South End, Boston, MA3605Sep 27, 2020
I was a fan of Hopsters before COVID and continued supporting them up until today when I found out that they've doubled the price of one of their already extremely expensive beers. Until mid September they sold a 32 oz crowler of their Beer Sangria (tap beer) for $14. That crowler is now $24, but an individual can is $16. That's right; $16 for a 16 ounce beer! GFY, Hopsters.
Today, their bartender (not the awesome Francisco) claimed the price hike was because the beer is a higher ABV, but then admitted it's not that much higher. I almost responded that a desperate price hike like this means the place might be going out of business and she should start looking for a new job, but I held my tongue.
Really disappointed especially since I was buying beer and eating food at the Seaport location with my family almost weekly.
Hopsters was always a nice reprieve from the uppity Trillium (though they have good beers) down the block. I suppose I'll be back at Trillium sooner than I thought.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - J M.Anaheim, CA20721354Oct 25, 2020
Literally waited outside for 35 min in 50 degrees!!!!
Multiple tables available everywhere but they still didn't seat us. Wouldn't recommend this place and as soon as you walk in it even smells like armpits. Stay away from this waste of time!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Robert M.Laguna Hills, CA339400234Jul 27, 2018
After a long walk I needed to stop by somewhere to grab a drink and a bite and I randomly walked by this place. I decided to check it out cause I was tired, and I am glad I did so.
The place had a fun ambiance that felt safe. The food was good, I ate the pretzel with cheese and buffalo wings! With a full bar, they are equipped for everyone.
The service was pretty decent. My waitress was quick to get the food and answer all our questions.
The music they played was fun creating a great ambiance. I would recommend checking this place out!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0
