This shop has some very nice antique pieces which is why I cant bring myself to give them a one star. However that seems to be the only redeeming quality. The elderly man(maybe owner) who is always at the counter barely speaks english and is pretty rude. I have been in several times to ask about certain pieces for an antique watch I have. One time when discussing a part (of likeness he had in stock) that needed to be replaced, I asked if he could check if the part was usable for my watch. He replied "This is my business! I have been here long time!". Then he quoted me at a high price and a week waiting time. I went elsewhere where the work was done for free within minutes, same day.

This store has been super amazing for me. I have a beautiful Hamilton watch that is very delicate. After about 10 years it stopped working all together. Turns out that although it is was resistant- it was not water proof. Water had gotten inside over time and damaged the parts.
The owner of this store spent countless hours looking for replacement parts to repair it. THANK YOU!
After it was perfectly repaired it was about 2-3 years before another repair was necessary. This time my husband thought he'd be nice and have it fixed somewhere else. Uh... thanks but no thanks! The company nearly destroyed my watch bracelet. I had to spend above $150 just to order the replacement bracelet.
This owner adjusted and installed my new bracelet for my watch at a cost of $20!
I will not go anywhere else ever again!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mark J.Hermosa Beach, CA321364Apr 28, 2018
I was on my way to Feldmar watches to get my 35-year-old Seiko quartz watch repaired and cleaned. It had stopped running even though the battery was replaced. I walked past Hooshmand's store and then walked back and entered the store. Hooshmand was helping a customer who's Rolex he had just cleaned. The customer was very pleased and being that his watch was worth a ton more than mine, I felt confident that Hooshmand could handle mine with ease.
He looked over my watch and I explained why the watch had so much sentimental value. Hooshmand noticed that the crystal was scratched badly and said he could replace that as well. I gave him carte blanche to do his thing and he said he would call me when it was ready.
A week later, he called me and I came by and my watch worked, had a new crystal and was clean as a whistle. I was happy as could be and the price was very reasonable.
He had many vintage watches for sale; some brands I recognized and many I didn't. Overall it was a great experience and he is someone who I would trust any valuable watches with.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Lainey L.Santa Monica, CA01422Jan 8, 2014
I hardly ever write reviews - this is only my third - but I needed to give my watch buddy a boost in his ratings. He may be a little gruff in his demeanor, but he is actually very sweet and extremely good at what he does; it's as if he's from another generation. His store is full of amazing antique clocks, as well, if you're into that.
I work next door and brought my old Fossil watch to him (which was recently repaired by another watch place) because it just stopped working one day. I assumed the battery was dead; he tried the battery and told me, no, he didn't think it was the battery, but the watch was just broken. I gave him my sad eyes; he replaced it regardless, blew some canned air and mojo into it and voila, it started working again. He charged me $6 for the battery and I went home. About an hour later, it had stopped again. It was a very old watch that had been very good to me for about a decade, so I just sadly accepted the fact it was, in fact, dead and retired it.
In the meantime, I bought a new (Fossil) replacement watch off ebay, and I took it to him to get a new battery. I brought my old Fossil watch in case he could salvage the crystal or the battery (he couldn't; they were different sizes). He did, however, take 2 links out of the old watch and put them on my "new" watch -I have large wrists, I guess - and replace the battery, all in a few hours - for only $10. Bargain!
Some may be upset that he keeps irregular hours (I had to pop in a few times to see if he was open), but to me (again, being right next door), it only adds to his adorable old-world European charm!
Walking into his shop is like walking back in time a bit (no pun intended), but if you can accept this fact, I highly recommend this business.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Stephen G.Manhattan, NY06Dec 3, 2018
When my 35 year old Omega watch, which is beautiful and also has great sentimental watch, stopped some years ago, two watch repair shops, including Torneau headquarters, could not fix it. I was in New York and took it to Omega headquarters. They did not have a specific part and mailed it to Switzerland. Three months later it came back, unfixed, with a note that the part was no longer available. When I returned to Los Angeles I took it to the local Omega dealer (Feldmar) - they also could not fix it. Crossing the street to get to my car I noticed the very modest shop belonging to Mr. Hooshmand, who I now think of as the watch wizard. He said he would find the part and fix the watch. Now, more than five years later, my watch is perfect. Since then I have used him for every watch problem I and my family have had, including repairing an old clock. He is completely reliable, efficient, reasonably priced and, most important, consistently effective. His shop is a wonderland of wonderful watches and clocks. I would not think of taking any timepiece to any other repair place in either Los Angeles of New York.

Just a nice old man who really knows his craft and charges much less than the huge store across the street.
Yes may be he is a little gruff but he's from the 'old country'. His store has really cool vintage watches and jewelry and I would recommend checking it out. You can also 'bargain' with him on the price... He's that nice!
Highly recommended! if you need watch batteries, minor jewelry fixes, he's the person to go to!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Elliot D.Malibu, CA2272Jul 13, 2012
No no no no... do not buy anything from this guy. Do not let him work on your watch or clock either. Don't even let him put a battery in your quartz timepiece. Yes, he has some interesting stuff in his shop, but no price tags. And some of the watches were put together by scavenging parts from other watches. Buyers Beware. People in search of repairs go elsewhere.

I like Hooshmand and I have him fix and clean all of my vintage watches. I have a few omega watches from the 40s and 50s that I bring to him regularly. Sometimes I scratch the crystal, sometimes they need a cleaning, once I broke the second hand and once one of my watches (that I bought on ebay) just stopped running. He fixed them all and for a very fair price. Once he fixed a watch and a few hours later it stopped working again. I brought it back and he fixed it in 2 days for no extra charge. I think he is a very nice, kind man and he is fair. I also love that he is from a different generation of people who learned a craft that he loves. He is a good guy. I don't know if I would bring every new, super valuable watch to him, but he specializes in the antiques and he does it pretty well for 1/3 the price of a fancy watch store.

Stay Away! I asked him to fix my watch which I had dropped and it stopped running. He did get it running, telling me that it just needed a cleaning. That was fifty bucks. However I had also told him that it was running about a minute slow per day, and he said he would fix that and he never did. He sold me a leather watch band and the two leather loops that you put the strap though after buckling it fell off. He told me not to pull on them. I said it's almost impossible to pull on them,. You just slide the strap through after pulling it back to hook it. He gave me another one. The same thing happened. He glued it, then suggested I sew the loops together before putting them back on myself.
The worst thing is.... I gave him another watch telling him very clearly that if he couldn't repair the Day/Date, then I didn't want him to do the job. He wanted $200 to clean and repair the watch; told me it's worth about $1000. He has had the watch finished for at least two weeks, except he is telling me he cannot find the Day/Date disks that need replacing. He can't or won't use the internet to find parts globally. I really had to hold my temper. I am going back today to pick up my watch. I don't care how much work he has done on it, I do not intend to pay him anything. People like this have to realize that there is a price tag on their customer's extra time spent having to deal with thoughtless and dishonest people.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Julia D.Los Angeles, CA692814Feb 26, 2013
I'm not understanding the 1 stars... He fixed my watch from Thailand that two stores turned away because it was too much work. He also took out a couple links to make my watch fit my wrist. All of this for $15. Nice man!
