On a Saturday night, I pre-gamed with some friends at this dude's apartment. From there, that led to barhopping on Main Street. High & Dry was one of our stops on the tail end of the night. It's safe to say that things were getting a little foggy at that point but I do remember how much I enjoyed this bar. High & Dry is located in the center of Main Street where all of the hot spots are located. It's really close to Captain Foxheart's Bad News Bar. Since this is downtown we're talking about, your best option is finding street parking or Ubering.
There are few things I love more in life than tiki bars. While High & Dry isn't a true tiki bar, they have a good variety of tropical drinks. Including those massive drinks that you share with a couple of people. We had one of those and they even set the fishbowl on fire. I loved the presentation! High & Bar also has a nice patio. It's not huge but it's a cool spot to hang out.
High & Dry has definitely staked its claim to make a part of my Main Street rotation.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 20, 2024
I was devastated to find out this bar just closed, leaving us high and dry.
Hopefully it is temporary.
Clearly one of the best bars in Houston. It's not cheap, but none of the bars in downtown seem to be. But it certainly has a style and unique charm all of its own and stands out.
That, and it's very beloved by all of my friends, including Barbi, who says it's one of the best she's been to. So that's why I give it such a good raining. I mean rating. But Houston is raining often.Helpful 12Thanks 1Love this 12Oh no 0 - May 31, 2022
Cute place, with two levels and a very small patio on the 2nd floor. My friend and I got there around 9pm on a Friday and it was completely dead. We went up to the second floor and there were maybe 5 people. It was extremely cold so I would of had to leave if they didn't have the patio outside. The bartender explained that they blast the ac bc later in the evening they open the doors to the outside and then it gets really hot. I get that, but I couldn't understand why they had to start blasting it 2hrs before they open things up to the outside. Seriously, it was uncomfortably cold.
As for the food, I was underwhelmed. We ordered guacamole and ceviche. The portions were okay but there weren't enough chips with each. I probably wouldn't get food again. The drinks were good.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 29, 2022
I was visiting Houston for a friend's birthday and we were looking for a fun cocktail bar for our first stop of the evening. We found High & Dry on Yelp and it definitely checked all the boxes! This tiki speakeasy bar has it all -- great music, amazing bartenders, delicious drinks, and just overall great vibes.
We weren't expecting to spend the entire night here, but we were just having too much fun. It never got too crowded (on a Saturday night) and the DJ was playing so many throwback hits. The most popular drink of the night was definitely the Ginger Flame -- probably because it also comes with a show as they actually light it on fire. It seemed like the sparks were flying down the bar every 5 minutes, haha. I also had a fabulous tequila mule and the bartender went out of his way to make my friend a spicy margarita.
It looks like they also have a downstairs area that's open earlier in the day and serves food. I'd definitely check this spot out again if I ever find myself back in Houston!Helpful 27Thanks 0Love this 22Oh no 0 - 196185212Jun 30, 2022
The atmosphere here is a very nice vibe with the patio and Upstairs. Downstairs is a more chill vibe if you want to lounge out. The drinks are very good and asked to look at their local rums. Because there's a Texas one that is very strong and delicious! I recommend the Mojito and Run old fashioned as a whiskey drinker I really don't mind it

Hosted my husband's 40th birthday last weekend on the second floor patio side area and everything turned out great.
Was in touch w the GM Lucas via email and text beforehand and although there were definitely lags in communication/response times via phone and email initially he was more than helpful on the day of the event and stayed true to his word. Really nice guy and seemed to genuinely care that we had a good time and the party went as planned.
Lucas had recommended a restaurant nearby for catering as there is no food menu at the bar and that turned out to be a spot-on recommendation as well.
Guests loved the sleek bar look, the patio on the second floor and the cocktail selection, was a great layout. People were able to sit, dance, and go outside and chill as they wanted. Bartenders were also nice and quick w the drink orders. Overall service, vibes and ambiance were fantastic. We were able to use one of the bar's screens outside for a slideshow though audio wasn't able to play which was understandable. Pricing was great and on budget (no venue fee, was able to purchase drink tickets at a very reasonable cost to reserve the area for 3 hrs). Bar also had a DJ booked for the night spinning all the latest music. After our reservation ended we were able to stay but other guests were allowed in the area as well, which was fine. It didn't feel overcrowded. The late night crowd is a bit younger and not as "polished" but expected for this area at night and things never got out of hand.
Towards the last half-hour of our booking we also had 2 of our reserved tables used from an outside hookah company but Lucas quickly took care of it when I pointed it out. We also did have a few party crashers try and get in during our reservation time despite the reserved signs (signs provided by the bar) but they quickly left and it wasn't a big deal.
10/10 would recommend, just don't let the slow response times scare you off.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 1, 2021
I've been here twice and have really enjoyed myself. Last visit was October 2021 on a Saturday night with one of my friends that was visiting from San Antonio.
Great atmosphere. Whoever that DJ is... he always has me in my feet for most of the night because he plays some really good hits.
Drinks - Any drink I've tried, I've enjoyed. My favorite is the rum old fashioned, coco loco, and the strawberry kush.
I know they change their menu seasonally so can't wait to see what they have next season!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 17696194487Oct 7, 2021
Ive been eyeing this Run Bar for awhile and salivating over all the unique drinks. I decided to invite my colleagues out for drinks since I knew he wouldn't be doing anything exciting on a beautiful Wednesday night in Houston! Our bartender on 10/6/21 gave my colleague and I absolutely great service. He was funny, accommodating, and did not hover which was fantastic.
Let me just say the drinks are STRONG! Very strong, but in the best way possible. We'll, not exactly. I ordered the popular strawberry kush drink and it was actually not that great. It came frozen with a mini Montenegro bottle, which was cute, but it didn't particularly taste like strawberries and reminded me of an old fashioned in some ways. So this cute drink is actually more of a man's drink in my unnecessary necessary opinion, lol. They should probably take it off the menu or revamp the ingredients. I feel pretty strongly about that.
Now the Pina colada was great! I asked the bartender to make it strawberry and he added strawberry rum. Yum!
My colleague ordered a few Painkillers back to back and he loved them!
We both ordered the Thai flavored wings. I can't remember the name of them but they were so good! We scarfed them down! You need food with your drinks for sure. French fries need to be added to the menu for sure!
I will definitely be back to this establishment!Helpful 65Thanks 0Love this 63Oh no 0 - Aug 10, 2021
So apparently you don't want to come here too early in the day. They do not open up the entire bar before 6pm.
We came in for a quick drink before dinner since our plans ended up falling through. I ordered the coco Loco which is something very different than I usually get. Super tasty with the right amount of rum and the right amount of Pina colada. Next time I would definitely like to see the entire bar... I hear it's pretty neat!Helpful 9Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0
