What an absolute delight! From the second you walk in, there's this warm, welcoming vibe that makes you feel right at home. It's cozy, cheerful, and just radiates good energy.
Let's talk about the food--wow. The Mediterranean Chickpea Bowl is beyond amazing. The crispy chickpea patty, caramelized onions, and those perfectly marinated beets? Chef's kiss. It's the kind of dish that leaves you talking about it long after you've finished. Oh, and the Crispy Chicken Sandwich? Don't even get me started. It's crunchy, savory, and honestly better than most traditional chicken sandwiches I've had. I tried all of their sauces and can't decide which one I loved more... goose bumps!!
The best part? The people here are so friendly! The staff are super knowledgeable and really go out of their way to make sure you're happy. Whether it's accommodating dietary needs or just chatting about the menu, they're genuinely awesome and make the experience even better.
If you haven't been to Hey, Sunshine Kitchen yet, do yourself a favor and go! It's not just a meal--it's an experience. The hype is well deserved!

I first discovered this business at a tasting hosted through a Yelp event at the Alcott center. It is a place for mental health or counseling. Any who. This business had a booth with a line of eager people shocked by the goodness of vegan food.
She had mac and cheese, chicken salad and some sauces. Everything was crazy good! I couldn't believe it was vegan. I took her card and eventually went to the business and bought some food.
The location was clean and everyonr had a smile. The sister of the owner was at the front and she was too sweet! Loved the presence of the restaurant and the various options in vegan form.
Unfortunately, the food tasted straight vegan! There were notes of carrots in the mac and cheese and I got a little flavor. The chicken salad was not good. I took off the fake chicken pieces and salvaged the salad with just greenery and a dressing.
I was convinced at the yelp event but when I tried the business, it just confirmed some vegan places are not for me.
But if you are vegan, please check it out and let me know!

Limited seating may be an issue around lunch time or meal rush times. Food was filling but I order $50 worth of food and I finished it all. Fish taco was the best out of all the tacos on the menu also sweet potato fries were good flavor and crisp. Staff was nice friendly and helpful staff checked in on us about 3 times. Ambiance was nice for clover city.

It was my first time having a meal at HSK but I'm glad I did!
When I used to live in LA, I used to love finding all the vegan spots and making my way around the city visiting them all. In my six years in the city, some found sustained success while others shut their doors, but with LA having such a high density of foodie creatives and high food entrepreneurial spirit, I always knew there would be a new place to check out soon enough.
I'm not sure how long HSK has been around, but a quick search in Google Maps for 'vegan' helped me locate this West LA establishment. I came by 1.5 hour before closing. My eyes immediately gravitated toward the "hot chicken" sandwich on the menu, which of course was made with plant-based products. I also grabbed a raspberry lemon cake for dessert, but waited to eat it since I wanted to savor the sandwich first!
There was a delay with my sandwich, which felt longer than it really was only because I was incredibly hungry. I was offered a side or drink on the house, which I gratefully and gladly accepted. When I asked for the coleslaw, I was given a generous portion in a bowl.
Soon after getting through that, my sandwich arrived piping hot---both in temperature and flavor! It was packed with vegan mayo, the plant based chicken crisped, spiced, and HOT, pickle, cheese and two fluffy, crisp buns.
When I got around to trying my dessert, it was literally gone within 4 bites! It was a small square of a dessert, and somewhat bland in flavor, but it sufficiently satisfied my sweet tooth.
I also appreciate the price point of the meal---was not expensive relatively speaking, compared to other dining choice in LA. It definitely is more fast casual than anything else, but it offers such a variety in vegan food!Helpful 1Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 2Business owner information

WOW Pree, thank you for such a lovely review, so full of details and beautiful photos! We appreciate you so much! We opened our doors in August of 2023 after having owned a vegan cooking school called Spork Foods for 15 years. Now we teach cooking classes at the restaurant!
we are happy you enjoyed and look forward to having you back again soon! XO, Heather and Jenny - Nov 15, 2024
I have eaten here twice and I love the build a bowl. I get the fake chicken. It is like bibimbap bc I get a lot of veggies as the toppings. :) I love the outdoor seating, free parking, and have seen limited/special menu items. Located next to a bunch of other eateries too. This place is vegan/vegetarian.

I love finding restaurants that can make healthy food taste good! We ordered the Mediterranean Chickpea bowl & the Avocado Crunch bowl. I liked the Mediterranean bowl more - the creamy sauce really ties everything together & the combination was delicious. The Avocado Crunch bowl's sauce was a little more tart/sour so I didn't like it as much personally, although it tasted more refreshing. The Macaroni Salad was yummy too!
There's not a lot of seating indoors, but luckily the weather was nice outside & there was plenty of room on the patio. Workers are friendly & there's a self-order kiosk too for those that prefer it.
The bowls were both very filling (I saved half for lunch the next day) & it tasted great still. We really wish we lived closer because we would order this every week.

EVERYTHING was delicious. I'm super sensitive to spice and there were so many options. I have every intention of returning next time I'm in the area.
Simple location and decor. Pleasant service.
This place gets A+ on everything. Including a clean restroom.

Hey Sunshine Kitchen, we LOVE YOU!
We needed to meet to discuss business, but all we could talk about was how outstanding the food was. We were scheduled to meet somewhere else, but it was too far for my friend. So, I searched for vegan restaurants and you popped up.
The menu looked enticing, but the photos sealed the deal for us.
You see what you get!
Two lovely sisters, Jenny and Heather, own and operate this delightful spot in Culver City, California. They are the friendliest, sweetest people ever. They have two books for sale on the counter filled with delicious holiday recipes and fun munchies the entire family will enjoy making.
Now, onto our meals. As I said, we went for business, but all we talked about was our food. I ordered the Mediterranean Bowl and my friend ordered the Chicken Caesar Bowl. We were both eyeing each other's meal.
My bowl was made to perfection: a Mediterranean chickpea griddled house-made chickpea patty, caramelized onions, shredded carrots, marinated beets, cucumber, sunflower seeds, fresh mint, massaged kale, house pickles, lime wedge, and lemon herb aioli.
You have the option of rice or kale--I chose both! The rice had a nice veggie broth taste and was very light and fluffy. The kale was massaged and tasty, not bitter. The beets were just like Grandma's. The onions were caramelized to tantalize your taste buds. The carrots were shredded to a perfect bite size along with the cucumber. The best part of this meal was the chickpea patty. In Uruguay, we make a chickpea flatbread called Faina, and this reminded me of that dish. The mint leaves and the lemon herb aioli dressing topped it all off beautifully.
I accompanied my meal with the Wild Blueberry Lemonade, which was cooling for a sunny day in California.
My friend couldn't stop raving about the Chicken Caesar Bowl. It was loaded with flavorful, plant-based chicken, crispy romaine, crunchy croutons, and a creamy Caesar dressing that had us both stealing bites from each other's bowls. The flavors were spot on, and the portion sizes were generous.
You have to finish every meal with a chocolate chip Rainbow Cookie!
The ambiance at Sunshine Kitchen is equally delightful. The decor is fresh and vibrant, matching the energy of the food. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed and more. It's clear that Jenny and Heather have poured their hearts into creating a welcoming space where everyone can enjoy delicious, healthy food.
If you're looking for a plant-based, non-GMO, friendly, family-owned business, this is it! The prices are reasonably affordable, there's plenty of parking, and it's in the heart of Culver City.
We left Sunshine Kitchen with full bellies and big smiles, already planning our next visit. Thank you, Jenny and Heather, for creating such a wonderful place!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1Business owner information
