Herrera's Burritos

Sometimes when I'm hungry and don't feel like cooking I swing by here to get something to go since it is not far from my abode.

Yeah, at the end of the day some of the items are weary looking in their buffet but once put together they still taste swell.  Literally around the corner from Boloco's - I think they have tastier food overall.

No time for a huge lunch today, I got a chicken quesadilla from Herrera's in the City Place food court today. It wasn't fantastic but it was A-OK. A decent portion of grilled chicken with melty cheese on a tortilla. Served with a really good salsa and some sour cream, it was lunch.

These people can seriously go fuck themselves. You never know when they're open or when they're closed. 1:30pm on a Monday and they're closed. Why? Because it's a local holiday they said? The rest of the food court is open!

This has happened too many times. I am fucking done with Herrera's. Your business deserves to go under, and you should surely be removed from the food court.

Beef burrito was weak!
You know how you order a burrito and it's a perfect mix of meat and cheese and salsa in the perfect bite??? Well, this isn't it.

This was more like a rice burrito with extra rice - with a few clumps of meat and other ingredients in the nether regions of the burrito.

It was definitely edible, and I ate the whole thing because I was hungry. But not at all worth the $13 it cost, (with 20oz soda). Guac would've been another $1.70.

I don't usually write restaurant reviews, but when you spend that much on a burrito, you better get an incredible meal out of it. This isn't it.

Won't go back...

The best breakfast burritos this side of the continental divide. Don't forget to grab some extra sauce to step it up a notch. I've never been disappointed with the quality of the morning burritos from this business.

These kids are excellent in customer service and the steak burritos are very good! Visited a few time and always liked it!

Food is decent. Get lots of attitude from the workers when I ask for any type of substition,  like they cannot be bothered. I'm not expecting anyone to kiss my butt but damn. Three stars for delicious tortas, minus two stars for weird service.

Back in the day Herrera's was merely a cart in City Place. I'm glad that they seem to be a permanent fixture with their new counter and giant menu plastered on the brick wall.

I've only been there a few times in the past week or so and the woman already knows I like me some taco salad. I wonder if she remembers me from undergrad 3 or so years ago when I used to swing by for their ginormous burritos. They're an awesome crew. All of the ladies are very nice and the line moves quick. I could use a little more lettuce in the taco salad.. but overall it's my favorite eatery in City Place!

So I'm sitting in my office. I'm hungry. Its about 1pm and my tummy says "give me lunch NOW!!!" I run through the same tired options in my head for when I neglect to pack a lunch. I'm just not feeling any of it. Then I remember. TRANSPORTATION BUILDING! Hell yes. Its about time for a taco salad. While it is a salad, it comes in a crispy shell. Justifiable junk food I suppose. Hey, there's lettuce!

The service is speedy but not particularly good.

I get the salad back to my office and nom nom nom nom. Yes. It was freaking delicious. I always at least go with the vinaigrette dressing. By the time I get to the bottom the shell is all flavorful and sorta mushy/sort crunchy perfection. Then I ask myself why do I not go here more often? Forget Boloco. This is it.

Now do yourself a favor and go get a salad. They also have beef tacos for $1. Hell yeah. Not sure if that's everyday or just a special. Mmmm. Mexican.

I love Herrera's. It's some of the best Mexican fast food in the city, and I find it's usually grossly underrated. I've never gotten anything here I didn't like, and I've tried the burritos, taco salad, Mexican rice bowl, and both specialty juice drinks (mixed tropical and strawberry lemonade). I really, truly have no complaints--I've never had a bad burrito here, steak or chicken, and the amount of spice is just right for me. The taco salad is amazing (I recommend the cilantro dressing, there are plenty of veggies, and the crispy shell just makes my day) and the juice drinks are a little sweet, but still good.

The ladies behind the counter are friendly at both locations I've been to (Transportation Building/City Place and the one in Downtown Crossing). They do accept credit cards now, and the prices are fair. I direct people here as opposed to the nearby Boloco if given a chance, because the food is much better.
