This isn't closed, as I was there November 14th, 2020 with a friend & it was open, though some stores were empty, meaning there was just nothing there. They had a cool arcade area with some older video games, some older video game consoles & a smaller arcade too.

      Nintendo 64 games.
An old South Park pinball machine.

they are closing up shop in Ottumwa....
      sorry to see them go!!
last of the big stores in the Ottumwa mall!!
      target, kmart, jcpenny's, now Herbergers...
so is internet sales killing these places???
or is it Ottumwa taxes killing them off??
well i say malls are dead....
strip malls are still alive as you can get in the store and right out...
they need to change the mall as inverted strip mall!!
      smaller shops, lower rent!!

My grandmother and I was at this store today on 6/21/2014 approximately at or around 2:30-3pm. My grandmother had asked for help from three different people in that store in the cologne department. We waited and waited and nobody showed up so grandma had asked another worker who was wondering around the area, the worker stated "this is not my department" then she wondered off. Approximately two minutes later we heard a page go over the intercom stating assitance to fragrance aisle. Not sure if this was for us or for another customer. So we waited and waited approximately another 15 minutes and nobody came. Pretty sad store when you go and can't find a person to help you or people who "don't want to help you" because they are too lazy or incompetant. I have worked in retail and know that "this is not my department" is not an excuse. You are to do everything you can to help the customer and if you can't then you need to explain to the customer you will get somebody and don't leave that customer till you are sure there is help there for them. I noticed earlier when we first arrived in the store that there was at least 4 people roaming around the fragrance aisle that probably knew that department or could help but somehow someway everyone dissapears when it's convienant for them however noticed they all showed back up as we was leaving. My grandmother also is not impressed with the Herberger's coupons as they did not save her any money at all. She will not be back to shop as she stated to me neither will I for one the prices are too high anyways. If you don't want your job and your not happy with the pay, then go find something else where you aren't working with the public if you want to hide out like that. I am sure there are several people out in the world who "would like a job" and "wants to work" instead of just showing up to gossip with your friends and take 50 minute breaks because you "are overworked" pffft. Some people just don't know what work is. I think the employees at Herbergers need a good reality in work ethics and respect. I get better service at Walmart down the street.
