Hatbox - A Modern Haberdashery

I was in Austin for a wedding. It included some history digging, a haunted hotel Driskill, French Legation grounds, and the Maximillian room at the hotel, where Hapsburg Empire contended for glory with a Roman style Republic, and a mirriad of images bounced off the imperial mirrors, leading you to the moment of an executed Emperor of Mexico's Second Monarchy yelling "Viva La Mexico" before he was executed by Mexican troops.

A visit to Hatbox was great. A great service, a well selected hat, within my budget, and yet, a very stylish and comfortable. The ladies loved it, and I felt appriopriately clad, so that I paid my homage to the historical significance of Austin.

This place is currently only open by appointment, so "just" walking in is a little hard. But once you get there, oh boy, hats upon hats in all sizes and styles. Lauri was very knowledgeable in explaining to me what would work for me, and with the Austin heat.... I came away with a very stylish hat.

This place is such a gem! There is an incredible variety of hats and all of exceptional quality. Lauri helped my husband and I find vintage hats for an event. She was so helpful and truly has a gift for finding the right hat for you!

Needed a hat for a jungle wedding in Costa Rica. Lauri was very friendly, knowledgeable and took great pride in the quality of her handcrafted hats. She also mentioned that she sources her hats from individual families and craftsmen across the world which is always a plus.

Coolest shopping experience I have ever had. Not only was the lady sweet as could be but her shop is incredible. I would take my friends back simply to look at it. It's very impressive how a garage can be turned into a beautiful shop. Hundreds of hats line the walls and there is so many cool stories the lady can tell you :)

I am in college and me and my roommates bought hats, sunglasses and hat bands. Incredible experience.

10 X more fun than going to a normal store.

Lauri was very helpful and friendly. My 14yo daughter wanted a top hat, and we bought a very nice one, which Lauri fitted to my daughter's head. We were both pleased with the whole experience.

Lovely owner. With Covid she has moved her shop into her parking garage where she lives. She has it set up quite nice. I saw her on The Profit and was impressed with her knowledge and selection she had in the store. The show did not portray her very well but I could see thru that.

I have worked for "artists" before. They may not know their financial numbers, but they KNOW their art. Before my appointment she asked me to send her a photo of myself so she could get an idea of what to suggest for me. I am from out of state and wanted the highlight of my trip to Austin to be going to this store and getting a hat picked out by an expert just for me.

She did a great job and I actually only needed one hat, but left with THREE. Her prices were extremely reasonable is why I could afford three. I am planning on a cruise around Spain and wanted to look fairly good on excursions without my hair flying around. It will be cold and windy in January. She met all my needs and exceeded them!

I hope to have the opportunity to go back there one day.

If I could give this 100 stars I would! Lauri is such a sweet lady that really knows her craft! She's full of fun facts and stories and such a great energy to be around. My boyfriend was in search of a top hat for his witch doctor costume and he definitely found the perfect one! She didn't even need to measure his head she sized it almost perfectly with just one profile look. With only minor adjustments after that it fits him perfectly! She then added some feather decor and it just brought the whole look together. She has so many options in all colors and shapes and I know that we will definitely be back for any future hat needs! My sisters got me an appointment with Hatbox for my birthday, and it was a fantastic experience. Lauri was very knowledgeable and helped me pick out my first hat. Such a beautiful, quality product. Such a great experience, would highly recommend!
