So food wise, it is delicious. Â I love the different dishes we ordered and the entire menu had great options. The prices are also not bad and I want to believe this is a pretty authentic Korean street food restaurant.
My only let down was service. As I came in, the doorbell rang but I stood there for 6 minutes until I called out hello a couple of times. A young man came around the corner and I don't know if he was tending to someone else or was unavailable but i feel that a greeting or a "give me a moment" would have gone the distance. Though not rude, he was not too welcoming either and seemed a little annoyed I didn't know what some dishes were. I ordered and he walked away, when returning, he placed my receipt on the other side instead of handing it me. Those experiences, Â plus the long delay to get my food really put a cloud on the good aspects of thw restaurant. Â
The delay I somewhat pass though because the food tasted fresh and delicious.
The place is big and looks a little crowded with things but has ample parking in the shopping center that it's in.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - May 20, 2021
Came in for lunch a couple weeks ago as it was just around the corner from where I was working and the sound of Korean fried chicken sounded incredibly appealing. Place was easy to find, plenty of parking, quite a bit of dining room space but it was not a very busy day for lunch and a good bit of space was closed off.
Fairly simple layout, they were distancing tables still and employees were masked up with sanitizer set out for to go purposes. Menu is actually pretty varied but I honed in on the KFC and ended up ordering the half and half chicken. I went with the soy garlic and gochujiang flavors, with them coming out in separate boxes along w/fried potato wedges that were also tossed in the same sauces. Soy garlic was very flavorful, and the gochujiang was VERY spicy, happy to have ordered it and sweated through eating it.
Would recommend and will be back in the future.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 17, 2021
Amble parking spots available right by the restaurant. I have been wanting to try this place since visiting AM Creations.
Dine in is open, but when we went for lunch on a weekday, there was only one other table there. There were quite a few to go orders.
We were seated to the back area with a booth, that's rather closed off. So we felt really comfortable with our two kids there.
Service overall was not bad, the wait took a bit longer than I anticipated. You have to ring the bell for the server to come back.
I think because of Covid, the utensils and cups were all paper one time use ones. Which I appreciated.
Bulgogi rice ball: was delicious! The rice was nicely seasoned as well. It was perfect to help reset my palate a bit.
Spam gimbap: usually we like to get spicy tuna, but since the kids are with us, we ordered spam. It was nicely seasoned not too salty. My 4 year old almost ate the entire order himself!
Harue spicy rice cake: it looked like it would be really spicy, but it wasn't. This was probably the most average dish out of everything we ordered.
Spicy assorted fish cake soup: it didn't look spicy, but it was SPICY! This is coming from someone who eats spicy. It was still tolerable and we were able to still sip on the soup. But I definitely needed something to cool my mouth afterwards.
Overall we loved it and would definitely go back to try their fried chicken with a nice cold beer :DHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1092199Apr 14, 2021
The food at this place was great! We ordered the spam and shrimp gimbap and the spicy dumping ramyeon. The gimbap was beyond flavorful and amazing. The ramyeon dumplings were great, noodles were good and soup was super hot.
Don't come here expecting the best or even mediocre customer service though. It's just not going to happen. We had to call the host many times. They don't check in on you so don't expect customer service of most American restaurants. We even had to ask for water ourselves, not be offered any kind of drinks.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 7, 2019
We came here because well....cravings. And when it came to fried chicken, I wanted some Korean Fried Chicken and the SO wanted some dukbokki. (I failed the previous time in finding a place that had it, so this was to make it up). Despite my failings, the food that was served at Harue was really good!
It was a win win situation for me: I got my fried chicken, she got her dukbokki which was spicy mixed in with cheese and ramen. The chicken was great, I did a half and half selection, but if you really want the true experience I would suggest to just go with one pick and get a whole chicken off of it. I felt that even though I went with half and half there were some pieces that were skimped a little. The flavors were great though, I tried the soy garlic as well as the spicy chicken. The soy garlic is on the sweet side and the spicy isn't extremely spicy to the point where you're crying but I enjoyed the flavor.
I believe that this won't be the last time I'm going to come here and will come back for more chicken and dukbokki. If you're looking for some solid Korean Fried Chicken, I hope Harue makes the list!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Oct 18, 2018
This is one of my favorite boonshik spots in Atlanta (Duluth). Actually, it may now reign as my top pick for boonshik locally. The interior is bright and inviting. They've recently renovated the space and it looks like. They added a bunch of flat screen TVs too featuring some korean variety shows that are popular in the Motherland and also the NFL game. They have semi private rooms which is nice for an intimidate setting for some larger parties.
They are well staffed and everyone from the owners and staff are very friendly and helpful which I sincerely always appreciate. The gentleman and the owner was so kind.
Food is very tasty and very well priced. They have a large variety of korean fav snack dishes available ranging from the famous Korean fried chicken, ddukbohkghee (spicy and sweet rice cakes, large assortment of kimbaps (tuna is my fav), udon, tonkatsu, omurice, ramen, and the list goes on. I'm super picky on my korean snack food/boonshik and don't think there aren't a ton of good options anymore. Harue definitely comes on top in my book.
Get the following: trust me...it's pretty solid here
-tuna kimbap (freshly made and generous fillings)
-soup dduhkbokghee- good flavor and generous portions. Dunk your rice/kimbap in the yummy sweet and spicy sauce. Trust me. It's good.
-tonkatsu curry- tonkatsu sauce here is really good. Sweet and savory. The donkatsu was cooked well and just the right amount of breading. The curry was good too.
- half & half chicken- get it just fried or with the sauce.
-jolmyun- spicy cold noodles
Takeout packaging is on point. Even when you open it up at home you can tell a lot of care and detail went into the takeout/to go packaging.
Definitely check them out if you're looking for good korean snack food. They are located in the same plaza as White Windmill, Rothem Cafe, Just Cheesecake, and Pho 24.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - Jan 12, 2019Updated review
Harue opened up a new location in the H-mart (Abbotts Bridge) food court next to Mama's Kitchen. Yelp should probably have a separate listing for this location.
We frequent the Harue on Peachtree Industrial Blvd, so was looking forward to this location opening up. Ordered the Snow chicken, Beef Gimbap, and Bulgogi Tteok-bokki. Unfortunately, they do not have our favorite dish - Bulgogi rice plate. They also do not have the set dishes.
The food tasted pretty much the same as the PIB location. Price overall is also the same, however the chicken is $4 cheaper ($15.99 vs $19.99) and it seems to be the same portions! Hopefully this lower price was intentional and they'll keep it at this price.
For to-go orders, we'll be coming here for the chicken. For sit-down, we'll continue going to the PIB location for the Bulgogi rice plate.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Dec 24, 2017Previous reviewOur family visited after church on Sunday. Not crowded at all and was seated quickly at one of their large booths. They only gave us one menu and had to ask for more menus. Ordered Modakchiki, Pork Cutlet Curry, Bulgogi Plate, Kake Udon, and Sweet Potato Tempura. Prices are very reasonable and portion size is good. Food taste was good and on par with other Korean restaurants. Waiters don't stop by to check on you, but there's a bell and they're fairly responsive.
Overall, great value and definitely worth visiting. I'd give it 5 stars, but had two problems. One is the table at the booth gives you no legroom and you keep smashing your leg into the table. The price was also incorrect for the Tempura and was $2 higher on the bill, but they fixed it.
It's great seeing more reasonably priced Korean food in the area. We'll be making this place a regular stop. - Jul 9, 2018
We came in on a Saturday for lunch and they weren't too busy. There's plenty of parking, as it's in the Howell Center Shopping Center with Pho 24, Just Cheesecake, White Windmill, and Oh My.
I love that there's a main open dining area and off to the side, there are little rooms for bigger tables and more privacy. Very friendly staff, and of course, each table has a button for you to call if you need anything. Thanks to that, service is amazing.
We ordered some chicken wings and the bulgogi plate. Food does take a while to come out, but they're good about bringing out sides so you have something to snack on. I wasn't too impressed with the bulgogi plate. Bulgogi did not have much flavor to it, but I did like that the plate had a good variety to it. For $8.99, I can't complain too much. We chose the garlic soy and sweet/spicy chicken wings and they were decent. The flavor was definitely there, but there just wasn't enough crunch on the outside. The wings tasted too soft for my liking.
Overall, I'd recommend Harue if you want a nice, chill place to hang out. Their menu is perfect for snack food. I wouldn't really come here for the food though.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - William W.Norcross, GA324646Mar 21, 2020
3/21/2020 - This place gets a one star review based entirely off customer service. I came in today at 4:47pm ordered and paid, they told me 20min. I waited outside. I came back in at 5:15pm and the young man told me it will be done in 10min. The time is 5:40 and he said it's almost done, 5 more min. At 5:45pm, I asked the young man where is my order. Two people came in and picked up their big orders and a family of 5 that sat down at 5:20pm was already eating their chicken. The young man finally told me the order was never sent to the kitchen. Since I walked in at 5:15pm, he didn't think to tell me, I even looked at him and he acknowledged me 3 times since I came back in.
3/21/2020 - Coronavirus is a huge issue right now and I didn't mind waiting or causing a scene but there was no one here besides me for the whole hour. I never got my food and I told him to just refund my money because I don't want to eat here anymore. I told him he had plenty of chances to tell me he forgot to send it to the kitchen but he didn't. I don't care how good the food is, I do not want to eat here period.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Aug 3, 2017
Harue Food & Cafe is a Korean snack food/street food restaurant by Korean people for Korean people so you know it's authentic. Heck, even the chef/owner of E.M.Bop, one of my favorite Korean restaurants in the Atlanta area, recommended Harue to me (but I already knew about this place). I was first introduced to this restaurant in 2014, the same year it opened, thanks to a Yelp Elite Event (http://www.yelp.com/biz/yee-legends-of-yelp-duluth?hrid=WiVvxC6DECkU6AnNQ-hOOA). I had a great time at the event and have returned for subsequent visits because I've enjoyed the tasty and affordable food, fun and casual atmosphere, and warm and friendly service.
Harue is known for tteokbokki (Korean rice cakes), fried snacks (pork, fish, potatoes, etc.), Korean fried chicken wings, gimbap (rolls, kind of like sushi rolls, but mostly without fish), rice (kimchi fried rice, omelet rice, etc.), whole fried chicken, noodles (ramen, udon, etc.), and more. The business is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner and serves an all-day menu with no single item over $10 except for the whole fried chicken.
Harue, along with other Korean snack food restaurants like Dan Moo Ji and Yummy Place (also in Duluth), are popular among young people. The restaurant has a bar and an open dining room with booths and tables for small groups as well as several private booths/rooms for larger groups. They can handle large parties. The rooms are numbered and I think they are a lot of fun to dine with a group in. In Korean fashion, there is a button in each room that you can press to call a server to your table if you need anything.
Outside of the Yelp event, items I've ordered and tried as a regular customer include:
Gimbap:
* Tuna roll - $3.95
* Vegetable and cheese roll - $3.95
Tteokbokki:
* Korean soft rice cake in sweet red chili sauce ("unique style") - $7.99
* Korean soft rice cake with bulgogi beef and veggies - $9.99
* Omelet rice - $8.99
* Whole fried chicken with soy sauce, garlic, and potato wedges - $16.99
* Odeng - fishcake
There are about 10 different kinds of gimbap on the menu. Like Japanese maki, these rolls contain rice wrapped in seaweed with egg, veggies, and different ingredients. I thought the tuna roll and vegetable and cheese roll were good. Nothing fancy, but they hit the spot. When it comes to gimbap, I think Dan Moo Ji probably has the best around, but Harue's is A-OK.
I really like the tteokbokki here. I think Harue has the best tteokbokki dishes in the Atlanta area. The rice cakes are freshly made, soft, delectably chewy, and the sauces are flavorful. The "unique style" tteokbokki is the standard spicy tteokbokki and the version with bulgogi beef and veggies is the most popular non-spicy tteokbokki option. Both are delicious. It just depends on if you want spicy rice cakes or not. The spicy version is more flavorful in my opinion. If you want, you can even add cheese or noodles to your tteokbokki.
At the Yelp event, I had the tteokbokki with cream sauce, onion, and bacon and it was terrific. It reminded me of a creamy pasta like fettuccine Alfredo. In the end, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the Harue's tteokbokki options. They are all good.
The omelet rice (omurice) is excellent. It's one of the better omurices I've had. Essentially, it's egg over rice with a savory sauce served with sweet potato fries, a fried mozzarella stick, macaroni salad, shredded cabbage, and some yellow radish. To me, this dish is comfort food. It's easy to eat and very appetizing and satisfying. I recommend it!
I think the whole fried chicken with soy sauce and garlic is the most popular flavor. They give you all sorts of chicken -- bone-in, boneless, white meat, dark meat -- and it's all covered in a delectable batter and mouthwatering sauce. The meat is mixed in with slices of potato that are also covered in the same batter and sauce. There are even bits of just the batter and sauce on the tray too. It's mostly very good, crispy and caramelized. The only pieces I don't like are the chunks of white meat because they are drier.
I'm not sure if you can order the odeng by itself, but you can order odeng soup (fish cake stick soup, $4.99). The odeng I tried came with a combo that included many items. Two sticks of soft fishcake were served in a mug with broth. Hot, delicate, and yummy. There are pieces of fishcake in the tteokbokki dishes as well.
Service is wonderful. The servers are nice, attentive, and accommodating. Orders come out from the kitchen in relatively quick order.
Harue is located in Duluth Village, a shopping center that also includes White Windmill, Oh! My SamGyupSal (Korean BBQ), Seoul Shin Jung (Korean restaurant), Just Cheesecake, and Pho 24. If approaching Harue from the south (heading north on Peachtree Industrial Blvd), you'll have to make a U-turn in order to be able to turn into the shopping center.
All in all, I think Harue is a solid choice for casual Korean street/snack food-type eats.Helpful 11Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0Business owner information
