Hair 101

I started coming to this hair salon since the end of my college year. I could never go to a different hair salon. I usually get my haircut here because they know how to deal with my hair type/texture.

When I started my career, I decided to try a different hair style for a change. I got a balayage here 2 times. Each time, I leave feeling confident. I like how natural my hairdresser makes my hair looks. My first balayage lasted 2 years and I always get so many compliments. I always ask for Kenny to do my hair because I like the way he cuts my hair. He is very knowledgeable and I usually ask for his opinions on what hairstyle looks good on me. He also speaks Cantonese so that is how I communicate with him.

This salon is kept so clean throughout the years. It looks very modern too! Also, they have the best hair wash here. They take their time to wash my hair and put a lot of effort to make me comfortable. Something to keep in mind: make sure to make an appointment during weekends and holidays. They can be quite busy.

Called around 1 PM day of for an appointment at 6 PM. They were very friendly, even with the slight language barrier. This was my first time getting solely a haircut at a salon and it was only $35 (and included a wash!). I showed them a picture of what I wanted and she knew right away what I wanted done and did a good job. My hair is severely damaged from years of bleaching but most of my split ends were cut off without cutting my hair too short.

This hidden gem actually SAVED my hair, I was so embarrassed to even go outside before. I can't recommend this place enough. I had my hair dyed blonde in California which broke off almost all my hair so then I was scared to dye the roots at a salon. I then dyed my hair at HOME, realized I didn't have enough bleach and was left with blonde, orange, black, and blue hair(from attempting to tone it).

I found this place on google at first. The employees were the nicest people who are so attentive to everything and very knowledgeable. My outgrown blonde was already so damaged so they did their best to not damage it any further/ I also have jet black natural hair that's SUPER thin and fine; I was so surprised when there's no damage AT ALL. I left with the prettiest honey blonde color and hair softer than my natural hair!! I'm also a college student and the pricing was the BEST I've ever came across for professional hair experience in NYC. ( By the way, The choppy hair was just from previous damage/breakage, I didn't get my hair cut). The person who did my hair was kenny and the owner.

I've been coming to Hair 101 for my haircuts since 2018 because no other has ever compared to the luxury, quality and reasonable pricing of their services. Today, I went to get a highlight touch up, fearful the entire time from other salons who ruined my hair every time but I couldn't be any happier with the results. The hair turned out exactly what I was hoping for and I'm so grateful for the team that worked on my hair today. I will be coming back for touch ups and my regular haircuts! Hair 101 has never failed to impress me.

Just got my full hair colored with highlights and returned the following week to get the keratin treatment. Prices here were very attractive - lower than other similar quality salons in Flushing (and significantly lower than Manhattan).

Kenny takes pride in what he does and is meticulous in ensuring his customers are happy with the results. There are also other stylists there, and they have all been in this industry for a long time.

Weekends are busy, but they do take walk-ins. It is best to show up early and get an estimate from Kenny directly.

I loved how Even listened to my opinion, gave me a detailed information, and dyed my hair without any damage. ALSO loved the hair cut with bangs! :)

$35 for a wash and cut for long hair?? What a great experience for a great price! It's within 5 mins of walking from Main St Flushing station too.

I asked for a V shaped cut with layers and it was perfectly done! I only cut my hair twice a year so I was glad to find a place that I would return to, time and time again. Def recommend! 10/10 experience

I have been coming to hair 101 for the past 4 years whenever I need to cut my hair or need to get a treatment! Just got a haircut there recently since the ends were getting a little dry and my bangs were getting too long and the haircut was great as usual! The price for cutting long hair has increased comparing to the last time I came and it was $35, which is understandable with inflation.

Whenever I come here, I always make an appointment and request for Kenny. Highly recommend him as he is very patient and nice! Other than cutting my hair, he had also helped me doing Japanese hair straightening in the past and he did a great job! He might be busy and had to juggle between customers but he never forgot about me and would always check on my hair.

While this place takes walk-ins, I would recommend making an appointment ahead since this place can get busy sometimes.

I've been a consistent customer to Hair 101 for years and my latest haircut did not disappoint! I was able to be served immediately as a walk in customer. Every time I try to ask for Kenny because he is so knowledgeable and skilled when it comes to hair. Years ago I came in with a disastrous dye job and he was able to work magic and somehow save it; since then I've been coming back for all my hair needs. He has always fulfilled my requests, and during my visit today he was able to cut and style my hair exactly like the reference picture I showed him and I walked away so happy! The price was great for the quality of service ($35 before tip), but keep in mind this place is CASH ONLY!

The WORST hair salon, do not ever go here!!!! Rude and terrible customer service. I came in asking for a balayage / ash brown blonde hair, and they somehow turned my hair to dark blue and black, and cut my hair all crooked. When I got upset they kept blaming the fact that they had no idea why it would become blue. Super unprofessional. They told me to come back the next day to fix it l and I had to bleach and redye my entire hair. I wasted more hours to fix it and the hairdresser STILL tried to gaslight me into paying $320???? Terrible service and they acted like I was the problem, when they are the ones who messed up my hair. I will never come back.
