I read about this carpet cleaner in the NYT's and decided I HAD to see for myself what all the fuss was a bout. (Google "Hadeed Carpet Bombing" if you care to read for yourself).

I went online and bought an old vintage carpet off eBay and had it delivered to my friend's house in VA. I then had him spill red wine and nacho cheese all over the carpet. For good measure, I also had him hire a handful of teenagers to smoke cigarettes and drink cheap beer on it in his garage. The next day, I took the train down from NYC and met my friend to inspect the carpet. It was trashed. Excellent.

We scheduled a cleaning with Hadeed Carpet, and I am happy to say, they were able to clean it to perfection. They were wonderful to work with, thorough in their service, and based on our research, amongst the best priced options in the area.

As a final test, I carried the large rolled up carpet back with me on my train ride home the next day, and there wasn't a single complaint by any of the other passengers as far as smell or sight. An elder lady even complimented me on the carpet and asked where I got it. She was a dentist from Philadelphia, and I believe she has good taste in carpets.

I will certainly be taking all of my Virginia based carpet needs to Hadeed in the future.

I took my ivory rug to Hadeed on Duke Street in Alexandria and worked with Mr. Abbas Alizadeh.  I was nervous about it because I had read the negative Yelp reviews but two reliable people referred me, so I took a chance.  I met with Mr. Alizadeh who eased the nervousness I felt; he was pleasant, friendly, and reassuring.  He made the process smooth and easy.
When I picked up my rug, I was very happy with the results.  My ivory rug looked great!  I would go back to Hadeed's.

My terrible experience with Hadeed's customer service (discussed in a separate review) only got worse when I actually unrolled the cleaned carpets a couple weeks later. I had the cleaned/rolled-up carpets put right on the moving van since I was moving out of state.  When I unrolled them in North Carolina, two of the three carpets were damaged.  They were damaged along the edges where the rugs were clipped/hooked during the carpet-cleaning process.  This occurred in regular intervals and the damage was not there before.  I called to complain and was told that (1) damage had to be reported in 30 days and (2) they had to inspect the damage.  Since they weren't going to come to North Carolina to inspect (and 30 days had passed anyway), I am just out of luck.

I would avoid this company entirely.  If you do use them, take pictures of your carpets before they are picked up and inspect our cleaned carpets immediately upon return.

Do NOT use this company.  I WISH I WOULD HAVE READ THESE REVIEWS FIRST!!!!!  I had a silk wool blend tibetian rug picked up (i thought it was 9x12) and was quoted 420 something for a basic wash on the phone. The rug had a few stains (chocolate milk and yogurt)and I assumed the basic wash would cover it. I got a call the next day from hadeed and they and said it would be an ADDITIONAL 250 to get the stains out. And also the basic was going to cost me 670 -  Whoa - I said that was not my first quote and if that is the cost now (because the rug ended up being a 10X14) then don't wash the rug and return it.. "too late", the guy said, "we already started washing".  How could they start washing when I never authorized the wash for 200 more than the original quote and then also tell me it's going to cost more to get stains out? I looked at yelp and say horrible reviews that same day. So Bob the manager called me and said he was sorry for the miscommunication and that he would only charge me 380. If additional cleaning was needed he would call. 2 weeks later and I hear nothing. I finally call back and they said the rug was ready and 670 was due. I said hold on I spoke to Bob and he told me 380 because I never authorized the cleaning. I was transferred back to Bob only to find out that he has no recollection of our conversation 2 weeks ago - and that he would "never only charge 380". I was floored. His response "we have over 1000 rugs to clean a week and I don't take notes on every rug I deal with or every customer I talk to" When I reminded him of our 30 min coversation he said the best he could do was 460.. so at this point I had to take it. One day later a guy called me and said delivery was ready and that I owe 670. . had to tell the story again.. Then the next day deilvery guy called to say he was on his way and that I still I owe 670. I had to explain my story for the FOURTH time.

When I asked bob about the horrible reviews on yelp.  His response "Only people that have negative things to say will post on yelp and we don't pay yelp. The people we do an excellent job for just don't post. We do thousands of rug a week and only a small percentage complain on yelp"  Really? they why do the other rug companies have such great reviews?  Why don't they try to improve thier service and reputation instead of sueing yelp?  Sounds like a stupid excuse to me and thank you Yelp for letting me vent!. On top of it, the basic wash got NONE of my stains out.  They advertise like crazy so they get masses of people using the service so they could care less about customer service. What a waste of time and money.

How does Hadeed even rate a 2 star rating?
Too bad we can't post -5 rating!
About a year ago, Hadeed picked up 4 area rugs. Both Levi & Chantele were very helpful with quotes.
Then when the rugs were cleaned & ready to be delivered back to me, the total was not correct. After many calls to Beatrice, Jean, Aaron, & Joe, they had my rugs for 6 months.  They never returned phone calls, as promised.
You can expect NO customer service from "Management".
Sure wish I'd known about Yelp before letting them take my rugs. Extremely rude!
Cannot begin to imagine how they must just luv their jobs! Must be such a "happy" environment!
If anyone needs carpets or rugs cleaned, please check Yelp, Angie's List, BBB & 7 on Your Side before contacting Hadeed. They all have complaints against Hadeed!
    There-- I feel better!

I too wish I had read the reviews before using Hadeed.  Very disappointed in this company.

After discovering carpet beetles literally all over my house, I decided to contact Hadeed on 11-14-14 because of their TV advertised 20% discount.  They picked up my 4 carpets the very next day.  At that time, I was told the 20% off only covered soaking and neutralizing (for carpet beetles).  REALLY?  I called Customer Service and was given 15% off on the wash...not the 20% as advertized.

FYI, I used the dust mop and unknowingly spread the beetles everywhere.  The original infestation was in the living room carpet under the couch...therefore undetected.

The carpets were delivered on 11-22-14.  Because we were still battling carpet beetles (they were hatching in cycles) I did not want to relay the carpet.  They were still coming out to do their damage.  What a mistake.  My husband mentioned it but I was too consumed with the beetles and was not thinking straight.

Yesterday (7-20-15) we removed the paper wrapping as we had not seen any beetles in a couple months.  The 10 x 14 living room carpet had changed in appearance.  The carpet looked dingy (cream background) and the colors were not as vibrant...like the water had been dirty.  And the fringe was not clean.  Also at one end the carpet is buckling.  It is also buckling on one side of the carpet.  I have some heavy things sitting on those areas but I am cautiously hopeful the carpet will lay flat.

The 8 x 10 dining room carpet had a large brown spot on the back of the carpet (was not there before)...like the carpet layed on something.  The fringe is dingy although the carpet looks pretty good.

The 4 x 6 foyer carpet looks good overall although it was clean to start with.

The other 4 x 6 carpet has 2 small noticeable stains.  The fringe looks pretty good.  And this fringe was dirty.

So why is the fringe cleaning inconsistent from carpet to carpet? One end of my living room carpet does not look like they touched it.

After much thought I decided to call Hadeed even though it had been awhile. I thought they would have a listening ear.  But no, only a 30 day policy.  Not surprised...MY fault.  How was I to know that I would have any problems!?   The person on the phone said I had refused spot cleaning (this is not covered with the wash?).  I told him I did not remember that but I had refused the surging and any new fringe.  (I surely would not have called them if I had seen these reviews.)

Now I'm wondering if I even needed soaking and neutralizing.

$1300 in southern Maryland and very disappointed.  At my age I should have known better.

watch out for the bait and switch

phoned hadeed, they quoted me $200 minus 20% off using their online coupon
they call me a few days later after pick up for the deposit over the phone; i provide them payment; no mention of an updated quote or additional charges

they deliver my carpet and show me the invoice and try to charge me $300! they told me since my carpet was hand made and not machine made(how do I know?), they charge more; I ask why they failed to mention that over the phone; asked for a supervisor.

i asked the supervisor, "is it your standard business practice to make a quote, increase the quote and FAIL to notify the customer of the increased charge and move forward with the work without customer authorization?"; the supervisor says YES!

WOW - after yelling at him, they finally agreed to bring it down to $155; i agreed and paid the remaining balance

reading the previous reviews for this place, the bait and switch seems to be SOP

Sure wish I had read the reviews on Yelp prior to contracting with Hadeed to clean two area rugs!!!!  Funny how ALL the "reviews" on Hadeed's site are 5 star, but you're hard pressed to find many 2 star and above on YELP!

I phoned Hadeed and spoke with Chantelle who quoted me $408.33 to clean a 9x13 machine made nylon area rug (which hadn't been cleaned, I'm embarrassed to say, since I got it 15 years ago!).  I also got a quote to clean another area rug which I thought was an 8 x 10 but was really a 9 x 12 (so I have NO beef on the invoiced amount for that rug).  Two days later they picked up my rugs, gave me some spiel about how they clean the rugs and out the door they went!

A week later Hadeed phoned that the rugs were ready to be returned.  All seemed fine UNTIL I was presented with the invoice!  First they DID NOT apply the 20% discount that their radio ad had been touting for at least a month, and that I was told applied to my order.  Second, I was charged $492.70 instead of 408.33 for the 9x13 rug because it actually measured 9'6" instead of 9' exact!  That's $84 for 6"!  Holy cow!  Finally, the total invoice was for 1196.04!!!!!  Upon further review of the invoice I had been charged an ADDITIONAL $283.22 for Soak and Neutralizing service which I NEVER gave permission or signed for!  It was written on the invoice that  I had "agreed in person" to this additional service. I NEVER saw ANY paperwork when my rugs were picked up!  Based on quoted information (excluding my 8x10 rug error, of which I take complete ownership!) I was overcharged $226.58!!!

So, that resulted in a phone call to Hadeed when the guys were here to deliver the rugs.  They did honor the 20% discount, but I was still on the hook for the additional soak and neutralize service.

I paid the guys, told them I was really unhappy with Hadeed and got them out of my house.  Next stop was YELP! Was I ever surprised by the sheer number of bad reviews!!!  After I got done kicking myself I hopped on the phone to Hadeed.  The ONLY reason this review even gets two stars is: 1) the rugs look beautiful!  However they've never had anything spilled on them or had any pet or kid accidents occur.  They aren't stiff with residue, but if you run your hand over them you do get a very pleasant smell.  I really couldn't be happier with how they look.  The wool area rug seems fluffier.  My son commented that "it seems springy again." 2) I received a very quick resolution to being overcharged.  I did have to take the time to scan my invoice and craft an email to Michael, but he quickly talked to his manager and they agreed that I had been unfairly charged for work I had not authorized.  Hadeed has since credited my card for the overcharge.

So, long story short: I feel that they did a good job cleaning my carpets.  I can't comment to how they'd look if they'd actually had any stains.  I just had years of foot traffic that needed to be "cleaned" away!  They did respond quickly to my complaint about the invoice, but that NEVER should have happened.

I've read many of the reviews on YELP since getting my carpets back and they have a similar theme: don't up sell the customer and don't do work that hasn't been initially quoted or agreed to!  I told Michael that they need to explain to potential customers when they call that they offer ADDITIONAL and MAYBE necessary services along with the cleaning service they are quoting at the time.  He told me they are "working out the kinks," but that made no sense to me since this company has been in business since 1955!!!  Must be some kinks!

Would I use Hadeed again? NO!

My suggestion: If you choose to use this company when you call for your initial "cleaning" quote be sure to ask about any ADDITIONAL services they offer which you might want to consider PRIOR to them picking up your rug(s)!  It pays to be an informed consumer...learn from my and apparently several others "mistakes!"

If there was an option for 0 stars, or better -5 stars, I would have chosen it. I am seriously perplexed. In an age in which customer service makes or breaks a business, how can Hadeed remain in business?

I used Hadeed once to clean a couple of oriental rugs. Like the rest of the reviewers, when Hadeed's  people came to pick up the carpets, I too was bombarded by attempts to sell me additional products and services. Instead of being helped to meet my needs, I was forced into a defensive position, politely refusing one sale after another. One of the most persistent offers was some kind of extra procedure, in addition to cleaning, supposedly to make the carpet look and smell even better. I firmly and repeatedly said "no."  When the rugs were delivered back to me, can  you guess? Yep! They had charged me for the service I firmly rejected, anyway.

The delivery person refused to leave the carpet if I did not pay for the service I never requested. I was furious. I called the store multiple times and was finally put through to Hadeed (one of the Hadeeds, anyway). Incredibly enough, both Hadeed and others at the store said that their hands were tied because the order (which had been falsified) clearly showed that it included this extra service (which they had added themselves). To make a long story short, Hadeed finally and reluctantly removed the charge. Instead of apologizing for their mistake, he acted as if he were doing a great favor to an unreasonable and unreliable customer. Needless to say I never went back.

In my opinion, this goes beyond poor customer service or lack of skill. Adding a service I had specifically rejected, it is downright unethical. It is especially so in light of similar complaints by so many customers. This is a pattern and not a fluke.  So is the treatment of customers as easy targets. This company does not appear to be concerned with their customers' welfare and satisfaction but with how much they can leverage transactions with them to extract more money from them.

The lawsuit against Yelp represents another manifestation of this philosophy that goes something like this:  If your customers complain about the same things over and over again, don't bother fixing them. The preferred solution is to attack and discredit these complaining customers, and punish those who give them a platform, rather than actually improving.

I paid 875.00 to repair and clean a number of years ago, a Bukhara rug my mother gave me that hadeed also packaged for storage.  I took the rug out recently and its full of dust.  They either did not package it right or not clean it properly.  They said with 20  percent off its 289 to clean it. I'll find some other company that really stands behind the rugs we stand on (so their slogan says)  instead of just advertising it during caps games.  Also it's interesting they don't have an angies list profile.  I'm sure they wouldn't like, the additional publicity there as well.

Horrible experience.  For starters, an absolute rip-off.  In no way can the prices be justified, be it for carpet cleaning or repair, duct cleaning or otherwise. The cleaning procedures and products are no different than those of other vendors.
Hadeed rendered my carpets worthless by removing distinguishing details in the process of "repairing" my carpets; I got this confirmed from other dealers whom I did not give any details, just asked for their assessment and compared to earlier ones. I tried to deal with Customer Service all the way up to Joe Hadeed himself, all very unpleasant. Joe Hadeed did not let me speak, could not contain himself, and went off on a loud and incoherent rant, making no sense whatsoever. Had I not been on the other end of a phone line, I would have feared for my safety. I spent thousands and simply have to let go lest I care for a lawsuit.
At one point, I was cc:d on an email from another customer who was equally mistreated and I see that other reviewers have had poor experiences as well.
Btw, their workers seem to be instructed to drop tidbits here and there when they come out to your home that make you think your whole house needs a Hadeed overhaul; don't fall for it but run the other way.....

I would not recommend Joe Hadeed.  They have NO CUSTOMER SERVICE.  I called about having 2 rugs cleaned and thought that they would be a good company IF YOU STAND ON IT - WE STAND BEHIND IT.  I am sorry that I did not check out the reviews before I made arrangements to have 2 rugs cleaned.  First, the price they gave me over the phone was about $50 cheaper that they turned out to be.  When they arrived to pick up the rugs you get a hard sell to buy new pads and upgrade the wash.
After they picked up my rugs we checked the internet to see what people said about the bacteria wash and saw many bad reviews saying that people were not pleased when they sent a rug that was not an expensive rug.  Some said that they came back uneven.  I immediately called to cancel one of my rugs.  I was assured that it would be fine and if not Joe Hadeed would stand behind it.  I was told that I could talk with Mr. Hadeed if that would make me feel better.  They said that he was in a meeting right then but I could leave a message on his v-mail.  I could not leave a message as his mail box was full and still was full for the several weeks that I tried to call and talk about my problem.  I bet it is still full.  He didn't even have an updated message. They do not stand behind their work. My rug, that I called and tried to cancel a couple of hours after pick up DID come back uneven and very frayed down both sides of the rug.  They had marked "serge" on the pick up paper but I didn't know what that meant.  After the cleaning it was much, much worse.   They said that they would repair it for half  of the normal repair price.  I had already been charged $346.50 for a rug that I tried to cancel and  I for sure did not want to put more money into it.  My more expensive rug was fine even though it was the same age and had some serge.  I was very upset because I had called and asked that they not clean the 2nd rug.  My rugs were not stained in any way and did not look dirty, I just thought that it might be good to have them cleaned.  I will never use Joe Hadeed for anything again.

I dropped of 3 small handmade rugs at the cleaning plant off Edsall Road.  Two 3x2 rugs and a runner. The quote I initially received was different than the final  charge. I was told they charge a minimum of $50 per rug no matter the size which I thought was ridiculous. I ended up paying over $200 for these small rugs and they didn't look much better than when I dropped them off. The spots were gone but the ivory coloring is now beige/brown.  I will not use them again.

Here's a quote given in February, 2015 at 33 cents a square foot:

    3 bedrooms, hallway, small office = $199
    13 steps and landing = 56.26
    Soap-Soil Treatment = $127.63
    Pet Treatment - $150
    Rotary scrubbing = $150
    Deodorizing = $75

    $757.89

    That's about $190 per room!

Here's a review from a non-anonymous reviewer- Never ever use this company! Years ago I called Hadeed carpet because my poor cat had a kidney infection and urinated on my sofa. They said to bring in the cushion covers and promised to get rid of the urine. Not only did they not even come close to cleaning the urine, but they yelled at me to get out of their store when I asked for a refund. I know this is supposed to be about me, but I have a client who brought her wool rug to Hadeed. They bleached a huge area right in the middle and delivered it rolled up. When she discovered if they refused to return her phone calls. I cannot believe this company is suing Yelp. They deserve every bad review they get.

I completely agree with S6 5's review....i too felt like there was almost a bait and switch going on. I too was misquoted for the cost of two rugs i sent to Hadeed to clean. I had 2 machine made rugs and Hadeed tried to tell me they were hand made and wanted to charge $100 more. It wasn't until i contacted the company that made the rugs who confirmed the rugs were machine made that the hand made rug charge was dropped. I also had a wet rug from a flood...and I told the person at Hadeed that the rug was wet when I placed my order. She never mentioned an additional charge for wet rugs....and my original quote of $150 went up to almost $300.  After about 5 phone calls to Hadeed, and not having calls returned I finally spoke to a nice manager who agreed to honor the original quote. I appreciate that, but it should not have been so hard for me to get the correct price. One other thing that bothered me is that i was told the cleaned rugs would be delivered on Saturday between 10 and noon. I ran out that morning, and when I returned at 9:45 there was a message on my machine at 9:20 from Hadeed saying, "Sorry we missed you...we tried to drop off the rugs but you were not here so we have to reschedule." When you say you're coming from 10 am-noon, please honor that. Coming 40 minutes earlier than the time stated is ridiculous. I would love to give Hadeed the benefit of the doubt that my experience was a one time issue, bit it seems from other reviews it is not. If Hadeed wants to make their service more customer friendly, they should post a more detailed pricing list on their website and list all the exceptions that may cause the price to increase. They should also ensure that their people are trained in customer service to fix issues before customers lose confidence in their company, and they should deliver/pick up rugs at the exact times they tell the customer they are coming. There were so many ways Hadeed could have handled my business better to ensure there were no miscommunications. I totally get it that there are some circumstances that could cause a rug cleaning price to go up....being open and honest with the customer about that at the get go and making all pricing lists transparent would go a long way toward making customers understand that, and help avoid unhappy customers in the future.

    Hi Mark,
Back on May 2nd, I spoke with you when I brought 5 carpets in to your Fairfax store for cleaning.  One of them had quite an ugly stain where a pet sitter attempted to clean up and instead caused the dye to run.  The cleaned and repaired carpets were delivered this afternoon and the quality of the work exceeded my expectations.  All of the carpets look great but I am especially impressed with the repair of the stained carpet.  It looks the same as the day my husband brought it home. Thanks so much. I will definitely use your company for all future carpet work and will recommend you to anyone looking for  carpet work.
