Cute little shop in Cumberland.
It's pretty much like any other coffee shop. There's a few tables if you'd like to catch up with a friend. The decor is pretty also.
Coffee, brunch items and dessert. Somehow, it doesn't get any better than that. Most drinks can be made either hot or cold so there is that option.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Steph L.Toronto, Canada226544462Nov 16, 2018
It's cold outside and I wanted a warm soup.
The goulash here really hit the spot!
They have two versions, a heartier portion served on Hungarian dumplings. Or you can just get the soup on it's own.
The service was friendly and quick. I'll have to come back and try the baked goods. The cakes looked so good! :DHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mei M.Toronto, Canada25190375Feb 3, 2019
Lovely cafe in Yorkville with nice natural lighting and all day breakfast!
I got the open sided egg salad sandwich and matcha tea. I really enjoyed the sandwich, it came with a side of house salad. For $7 that's not bad! The egg salad sandwich had just the right amount of tomatoes and onions on top.
I really liked that there was a matcha tea option instead of just the latte. It was well made and did not have any residues or clumps.
All in all a lovely place to catch up with friends or just read a book while enjoying a meal.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 15315824Dec 18, 2018
Love the small store front! There's a regular menu and a separate menu written in chalk on a mini blackboard stand on the counter. At the time when I was at the cafe, there was lavender latte on the special blackboard. So refreshing and light. I can drink this all day long!
Love how this place is not crowded and easily accessible!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ori M.Old Toronto, Toronto, Canada22156401Jan 8, 2018
Höm is where the tasty food and coffee is!
Make sure you check out this amazing Eastern European style coffee shop in Yorkville. The dessert is out of this world...you have to try the Dobos cake.
Even tho the food can be quite pricey it's for sure worth a visit because the quality is great!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tom C.Sagamihara, Japan836220546Apr 28, 2018

tl;dr: Bland Hungarian cuisine at Yorkville prices. The portions are not a problem, but my partner and I got the general feeling that other places in the city do their entrees better.
I've walked past this place a bunch of times in the past few years and the $15 avocado sandwich used to make me apprehensive. Furthermore, the clientele always seemed really nicely dressed and I got a standoffish vibe about the place.
We looked past the generic three-egged breakfasts and assumed their strong suit were Hungarian dishes. I got the small goulash to start, and the cabbage rolls with beef, which came with two slices of rye. The goulash was somewhat watery and could stand to be heartier. It just lacked a certain slick of savoury oil that would have indicated someone browned some onions and tomatoes beef before cooking a soup stew. Well, I'm not sure if that's how goulash is made but I've just had much better to that effect (*cough* the Hungarian restaurant on Bloor West, or the Stable in Port Credit). Although well presented and plentifully packed, the cabbage rolls were bland and unmemorable. That was disappointing since they're kind of hard to find downtown. What else...? My partner got the chicken schnitzel sandwich, and maybe we're biased as we had Schnitzel Queen the night before... and it was nothing to write home about. Overall, I wasn't sure what to expect, but now it's confirmed. It's an eighteenth century decorated restaurant with banal eastern european food.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Thomas H.Toronto, Canada25828383Sep 17, 2018
Recommended:
Sausage sandwich. Similar to a Reuben, but with sausage inside.
Ok:
Veal schnitzel.
Hom cafe opens quite early on weekends (10am) with a full Hungarian lunch menu.
Well, not quite a full menu. Unfortunately, the Sunday special "Goulash stew" was not available. That's what I wanted to try. Bit of a letdown.
The sausage sandwich was tasty, and I would order it again.
The veal schnitzel was not impressive, especially at ~$23. It needed to be paired with some sort of sauce (apple sauce would have been great). With the mashed potato also dry, the plate was like a desert island. There is some potential to improve this dish.
I may return to try the cake.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Danielle F.Toronto, Canada527429219Oct 26, 2017
Love this place! I popped by with my boyfriend on a Sunday afternoon, and even though we just expecting to pick up some coffee, we ended up with a seriously tasty sit down experience.
This place has Hungarian roots and the food menu reflected that with items like goulash, cabbage rolls and other specials on a chalkboard. They also have menu items that any Yorkviller would appreciate, like avocado toast. I shared the cabbage rolls, which came with rye bread, sour cream and sauerkraut. The cabbage rolls were piping hot and fell apart perfectly, like cutting through butter but with a nice, al dente texture in the mouth. Just what I wanted.
Buoyed with confidence after the success of the cabbage rolls, I took some goulash to go, too. Best decision. Goulash is basically Hungarian stew, so in this case and many others, it has beef, potatoes, carrots, though there are many variations. This one was also had crazy tender meat, and the whole thing warmed me up from the inside out.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0
