Update: still great, they do not deserve 4 stars just because I was cranky and annoying two years ago. Favs: spicy mouth waterin', fishin'
8/27/2015Previous reviewSpicy mouth waterin' on Dutch crunch hits the spot. Giants had a day game today so I asked to switch the channel and they gladly obliged.
Took around 10 min to make the sandwich and I started getting cranky but I was pretty hungry by that time so probably just my stomach throwing a fit.
The TV's also mounted at an awkward position - only two tables can watch basically. Then again, I'm not spending half a day to munch on a sandwich here.Read more

12/19/2019I love grubbin!
This place is my go to sandwich shop although
the sandwiches are a bit expensive imo but they are worth it!
I usually go for the build your old sandwich option.
My order:
Dutch crunch bread
Turkey
Avocado
Pesto aioli
Honey mustard
No mayo
No tomato
Comes with grubbin sauce, lettuce, and red onions.
I usually ask for more veggies and less turkey.
The tater tots here are delicious as well. - Chungyen S.Berkeley, CA0 friends10 reviews3 photos

The sandwich was pretty good but they put sauce on it even though I asked for no sauce. Since so many businesses/restaurants make this mistake I always clarify to make sure:
"Does this come with sauce." If the answer is yes, I say "Can I get it dry? So without the sauce."
Still, many places give me sauce anyway. This is annoying but usually they are apologetic and everything is fine. Grubbin was different. After getting home and then walking back to the store the cashier questioned me whether I was sure I asked for "no sauce".
"Yes... I'm sure."
So she went and got someone else to come help me. Most people just say something simple like "Sorry about that." But not this time.
I don't need a speech or anything, just to own up to it instead of acting like I'm being a nuisance by trying to get what I ordered.
They did remake my sandwich without me having to say much but when a business makes a mistake I don't like being given the feeling that I'm bothering them...
4 stars for the food, -1 for the service. It's not about the mistake. Mistakes happen. It's about how mistakes are handled. - Justin L.San Francisco, CA

Great spot if you are looking for a quick bite. I was craving a sandwich around the area, so I had to check out Grubbin', delicious! I got the Grubbin' It and shared with the girlfriend. If you check in on Yelp, you also get a free bag of chip along with your purchase of a sandwich. Yes!
The wait time is about 5-8 mins depending on how busy it is. There's also a TV (Sports fans you are good) while you wait for your food. Swing on by if you are looking for good and juicy sandwiches. - Michael S.Los Gatos, CA

I was lovin' my Spicy Mouth Waterin' from Grubbin'. I found Grubbin' by Yelpin' when I had a hankerin' for a sandwich featurin' chicken. Whether the chicken was prepared by fryin', broilin', grillin', bbq'n, rotisserin', poachin' - I wasn't carin' - I just wanted a great sandwich where chicken was starrin'. Grubbin' wasn't close to my office so gettin' there took drivin' but if a fella won't travel for chicken then he's settlin'. Grubbin's Spicy Mouth Waterin' is - between the spicy aioli, ranch and grub sauce - wetter than I generally prefer, but the saucin' mitigated the spice and the sandwich totally worked. Great sandwich. Worth the drivin'.

12/14/2019Ike who? George who?! Gene who?!!
Goodbye other sandwiches I used to love. From now on we'll always go to Grubbin'. Grubbin' reminds me of what Ike's used to be - back when i could wait on a stoop in the Castro for 90 minutes+ because it was just that good and because i had nothing better to do anyway, before it got all commercial and boring, before the customer service got so blah and you could find it all over the place.
We got sandwiches at Grubbin' THREE times in the first week that we found it, because the first sandwiches we got were amazing and we couldn't wait to try the others! Solid combinations (i'm a huge fan of the Juicin' and hubby likes the Spicy Mouth Waterin'." I like that it seems to be a family kind of local business. Will definitely be a repeat customer for sure. Just when i though we had a good amount of decent sandwiches around on this side of Outer Sunset, Grubbin' blew me away. So happy. Sure to please any sandwich lover. - Jane D.San Francisco, CA

Solid sandwiches! Go for their Dutch crunch - the bread is chewy and has a good bite. They have preset sandwiches and a build your own option as well. Fries and tater tots offered too.
Prices average around $10-11 after tax. They're smaller than the subs from Yellow Submarine on Irving and tbh I still prefer the subs, but this isn't a bad substitute.

Grubbin' makes some mean sammiches! My favorite is their Grubbin' It sandwich - Pastrami, Smoked Ham, Salami, Bacon, Sprouts, Cheddar Chesse, Pesto Aioli, and Grub Sauce. Their dutch crunch is bomb. If you want some spice in your lyfe, you can add pepperoncinis and jalapenos which I recommend. Their sandwiches are always loaded and made perfectly.
Their fryer was broken when I went, so I think the workers were a little stressed. A little smile, even a fake smile, can go a long way! Don't forget to check in on yelp for a free bag of chips!
Ba Da Ba Ba Bah, I'm Grubbin' It! - Samantha L.San Francisco, CA

The Grubbin' It sandwich is killer. It has a little of every part of a pig.. pastrami, ham, salami, bacon! The pesto aioli and Grub sauce ties it all together. Get it on Dutch crunch. Check in on yelp for chips. Delicious!
Literally a block down from Lou's Sandwiches. The sauce at Lou's takes it up a notch and has more of a kick to it but I prefer the portions of sandwich fillings at Grubbin'. A fine balance.
Easy to call in and pick up within 15 minutes. - Akash D.Brooklyn, Brooklyn, NY63 friends2 reviews

OMG yaaaaas!!!! I popped in here with my husband after our early trip to the zoo and I say this is a must stop for quick delicious eats in SF. I got the lickin and he got the fishin, we also got tater tots and chicken nuggets to share. Everything was awesome, everything was wonderful, everything was toasted, and the Dutch crunch bread they use for their sandwiches is divine. 10/10 recommend if you want a good sandwich.

6/2/2019I'm an east coaster at heart (and forever will be), but I have been converted by a couple things here in SF: (1) cycling and (2) dutch crunch sandwiches.
The former is outside the scope of a Yelp review, but as for the latter, Grubbin' does some of the best dutch crunch sandwiches around.
I got their namesake sandwich and man was it delicious. The bread is high quality and nicely toasted, they give you plenty of meat, and the alfafa sprouts add a nice crunch.
Simple, but in sum it makes for something amazing :) - Alison E.San Francisco, CA0 friends15 reviews

Delicious sub shop in the mid Sunset. You can order ahead to beat the rush of high school students from nearby Lincoln High School. Really juicy, toasted just right, great sauce, etc. Yum.

This place is great! A hidden gem in SF. My go to food honestly. The sandwiches here are so juicy and flavorful and just super filling. If you haven't tried this place yet, I definitely recommend it!!!!

8/19/2019If you want the best sandwich you've ever had in your life you've come to the right place! Grubbin's "Spicy Mouth Waterin' Sandwich" blew my mind. I got it on a sourdough roll and my buddy got the whole wheat and we both absolutely loved it.
Mouth Waterin' Score: 10/10
PS. Their chicken wings are pretty good too! Just make sure to get them sauced up and not sauce on the side! - Mary L.Inner Richmond, San Francisco, CA

Stop everything and head over to Grubbin' RIGHT NOW. I first discovered this joint a few years ago and have been a loyal customer since.
THE MENU: the selection of sandwiches is not as extensive as other sandwich joints (i.e. Lou's sandwiches) but thats exactly what makes GRUBBIN so darn good! Give their classics a try and trust me...you will be hooked!
TIP: The spot itself is quite small but if you come after peak hours, you will secure a table! Parking may also be difficult in this area but I always manage to find a spot right in front.

SO DELICIOUS!!! Drop everything and grab one NOW!
I love delis and I love sandwiches. This place did not disappoint. The exterior is really plain and the inside is nothing to write home about, but the sandwiches are AMAZEballs.
The menu is written on the chalkboard and their selection might be a little overwhelming. I was initially skeptical bc their sandwiches sounded a little too "fancy." But the taste has won me over.
I ordered a Grubbin sandwich and it came out hot and fresh on that delicious dutch crunch! It was pretty meaty and the flavors paired well. The prices are reasonable and the staff is super friendly. We couldn't finish our sandwiches and they packed them up for us to go. BTW they were still good the next day toasted up! - Nicole M.Castro Valley, CA662 friends82 reviews44 photos
7/1/2019the sandwich was very good the chicken and sauce was tasty but,Ii would not suggest coming here after school hours it was very busy luckily we had ordered before the crowd rushed in , but by the time we were eating we were surrounded by kids gets crowded take the sandwich to
Go ;) - Janice L.San Francisco, CA
7/12/2018The shop may be small but the sandwiches sure aren't!
My boyfriend and I stopped by today for a late lunch/early dinner and ordered the Grubbin' It and the Spicy Mouth Waterin' - both on dutch crunch bread. Both came out piping hot (I got a bit too excited and pretty much burned myself on my Spicy Mouth Waterin' but it was worth it!) First off, the bread is perfect and it such a great textural element against the meatiness of the sandwiches. And the sauces - wow - so bright in flavor and they just really tie everything together!
Of the two, I preferred the Grubbin' It (mainly because I just prefer the meats in this more) but would recommend both!
They have quite a few options so I'll definitely be back to try more! - Alic H.San Jose, CA
6/10/2018Quality meats and breads. The sprouts really give it a nice texture and flavor. The grub sauce is pretty good too.
We went with the Lickin' and Droolin' - both pretty good. Very reasonably priced and good customer service. Would def come back if I'm in the area and want a good sandwich. - Ashlee T.Berkeley, CA
4/15/2019Lickin' good sandwiches & already cravin' some more after a stop at Fort Funston, I was starving and was browsing on yelp & came across Grubbin'. It's definitely a family type of shop & I love that about it. The sandwiches are a bit on the pricey side, but each sandwich can honestly be split by two people. My boyfriend and I decided on the lickin' and cravin' sandwiches. I love corned beef so the lickin' was right up my alley. The sauce that's paired with the sandwich is perfect. My boyfriend got the cravin' because he's also a pineapple on pizza type of guy even though I think that's an abomination to pizza. Anyways, I've got to say that grubbin' made the ham & pineapple work & I actually enjoyed the bite I took of his sandwich. They have a variety of breads to choose from, but we're both Dutch crunch people & it is definitely the way to go. It worked out that we got two different ones that we each liked to get a variety since it was our first time here and better yet, we had lunch for the following day as well. There's a nice park right around the corner for the shop which is a perfect place for you to enjoy the sandwich on a nice spring day!
