Visited Labor Day weekend, place was packed. Service was quick. Food was delicious. The decor there is hilarious! They had old episodes of the Price is right on the TV from when Bob Barker had dark hair, we couldn't stop watching it.

I think we just found our new favorite restaurant.

All made from scratch and in house. Local ingredients, beef from a farm in Trafalgar. Fries are cut in house and cooked in Beef Tallow. Creative menu.

Great customer service, and you can tell they really care about the quality of ingredients. Good, honest and quaint. Can't recommend enough.

We recently moved to Morgantown and found this diner while driving to our new house. Since then we've gone once and I had to sneak there for a meal myself one day! The food is absolutely delicious and very flavorful. Usually restaurants lack seasoning and merely depend on what the food already tastes like and I'm not a fan of that. This place does the complete opposite and all their food ranks high on my flavor chart.

I got the hot honey chicken grilled cheese. I will say that , although it is delicious, it is no way shape or form "Hot" by any means. I can taste the honey sauce, but there was nothing spicy about that sandwich, so keep this in mind. They have an in house barbecue honey sauce, but again, I don't taste any barbecue sauce in it at all. It tastes reminiscent of Dijon mustard with something sweet. Regardless, it's still appetizing. So appetizing that I don't have any pictures to show!

It seems as if there's only one server, but she does an awesome job. She took our order and was very polite. She also gave great recommendations for my partner to try. The ambience is what you'd expect from a diner. Quaint and not much noise. There is also a tv that plays jeopardy. Overall, I highly recommend this place and will be coming back often.

I'll start out by saying that I really, really wanted to give high marks. I love the concept, I love the way they have decorated, and the menu looked delicious. That said, our experience was disappointing.

We arrived on a Sunday, late morning. I had already chosen my order, based on the diner's Facebook postings. It's good that we didn't have our heart set on breakfast because the waitress informed us that they were out of breakfast. On a Sunday morning.

Ordering was quick, and we waited for our appetizer. Fried green tomatoes. I love fried green tomatoes and have had several different varieties. The ones advertised looked amazing. But that's not what arrived.

Next came the entrees. Again, I ordered based on a post. The wedge salad picture looked delicious in the post. But that wasn't what arrived. It didn't even have the bacon on it. I asked and the waitress said "really they didn't put it on there?" Nope. I love bleu cheese, but it was so strong that I couldn't eat it. I added grilled chicken to the salad. It came on the side and was really dry.

It's a cute place. It just didn't deliver when it came to the food.

Edit: in my anger at reliving the salad and tomato fiasco, I forgot to mention the one good item - the fries! Fried in beef tallow! (Sorry vegetarian friends) They were amazing - so crispy and flavorful.

I'd driven by the Green Hill Diner several times on my way to Nashville, IN. Always lots of cars in the parking lot so I decided to stop in this afternoon to check the place out for a late lunch. I love the look of the place both inside and out. Very clean with a homey feel. Very friendly staff. Alexis, my server, was sweet as sugar cream pie.

For my light lunch, I ordered the Grass-fed Steak burger Chili with Onion, Sour Cream, and a Root Beer Float. The chili was great. Tasty and a little different. I liked that it was not loaded up with beans- 4 stars. I absolutely loved the root beer float. 5 star. Alexis made it herself. -- When I asked Alexis her secret, she said that she starts by making an Ice Cream /Root Beer base like a milk shake, adds more ice cream and tops everything off with more root beer. Yum, Yum. I like this place. It was fun and I left feeling good. It felt like family. I'll be back with the wife to try more menu items, and, maybe some of the bakery good. Those cookies in the bakery case looked awesome.

Words won't do me justice here. When you think "hidden gem", this is it. Must try. Tried the Poutine, fried green tomatoes, and a couple
      Burgers and ALL were amazing.

This has been a bookmark for about a year or so. Grateful we tried it tonight. Looks like a great little diner that I assumed served just breakfast/lunch. They do dinner too- and it's fantastic !! We will now come back for breakfast. I ordered a salad and added the crispy. Chicken. Salad tasted fresh and home made dressing. Heirloom tomatoes. Crispy chicken was seriously crispy. And tasted delish. Husband got the beef manhattan. Perfect comfort food on a plate. It tasted like a pot roast with gravy and mashed potatoes and two grilled toasts. I also got the butternut squash soup. OMG. If there is squash soup on the menu, I am ordering it. It did not disappoint. I love soup in the fall and this was such a delight. Filled with all the fall flavor. We split a cookie which was put into an oven to heat up. It tasted like a smore. Thank you to our waitress Angel for such good service.

This place is amazing. Food was great. Service was friendly.
I love how they locally source everything. Made from scratch. Use real butter & beef tallow. These days it's hard to find places to eat that aren't serving you garbage. I LOVE the fact they are serving REAL food!

      Not as good as expected

My husband and I have been seeing Facebook posts for Green Hill Diner for quite awhile and talking about how wonderful the food has looked. After seeing the SOS and SOS burger today, we decided to make the 30-minute drive to check out this place.

Let's talk about the good parts:

We tried the fried chicken liver appetizer, which was huge and definitely shareable. Although served with ranch dressing, the cold ranch and hot chicken livers did not seem to go together. A little dish of white gravy would have put that appetizer over the top and would have helped cut through the rich chicken livers.

Our fish & shrimp entree, which we shared, had a very nice, delicate batter although the batter seemed to be thinner and much better on the shrimp. The cole slaw was excellent, and we also enjoyed the homemade potato chips although we had asked to substitute fries. We also enjoyed the tartar sauce.

But, we did face a few negatives:

Although going for the old fashioned diner look, the inside of the restaurant needs some attention. We sat in a booth (in the corner), and definitely regretted that decision. I faced the wall, and the booth back was so unsecure that whenever the person sitting behind me (2 different customers during our visit) moved, I was thrown forward. One was a woman when we arrived; another was a thin man when we left, so this wasn't caused by a huge customer bumping around. It was constant, and I was lucky not to leave wearing my food or drink.

The table covers are tattered and need to be replaced. You can tell most were simply pulled over the table tops and stapled on the underside of the tables, but those have been pulled down or fallen down at most tables.

A much bigger problem involves ventilation. There cannot be much because the smell of fried foods permeated the dining area in a restaurant with only four tables seated at 5 p.m. I left Green Hill smelling like fried food; my hair and my clothes reeked of grease, and I jumped in the shower as soon as we got home.

      As far as the food...

The price of $20 for one fish fillet, 8-10 small fried shrimp, coleslaw, and a few homemade chips seemed a little much. If some type of bread were included, I could justify the price tag a little more.

The server went back to see if they had any cocktail sauce for the shrimp. They did not. I believe the person running the kitchen is a chef, and if that's the case, he/she would know that adding some horseradish and lemon to ketchup would make a simple cocktail sauce within minutes.

We aren't ready to give up on Green Hill Diner. Maybe we'd enjoy breakfast much more although I wonder if we'll leave smelling like bacon or sausage. Those specials they show look so darn good, but they seem to be specials as opposed to regular menu items.

Let's hope our next visit will be better.

This is a true hidden gem of a restaurant. Everything is made from scratch. The fries and chips are fried in beef tallow. The tomato basil soup is a religious experience, particularly with whatever seasonal variation on grilled cheese is available. You will never taste a better chicken sandwich, whichever version you choose. The service is warm and friendly, and they have fun decor -- local artists and kids' coloring pages. Whatever is in the bakery counter, don't leave without one. This is REAL food done right.
