Granny's Kitchen proudly offers a relaxed and homey environment where we will entice you with fabulous smells, delicious food and an atmosphere where you will feel like family. We have the ONLY deep dish apple pie in Julian which weighs a full 8 POUNDS! A whole pie can serve 16 people but you can get a slice that is about a pound of goodness that can easily be shared. We also make a GLUTEN FREE apple pie. Come early for our fresh fruit scones or enjoy one of our other amazing pastries. Beginning at 5am weekdays (7am weekends,) we offer a full espresso bar using organic, fair-trade beans. We serve fresh fruit smoothies, and pastries (including vegan and gluten free options) that are made in house. Big flavor comes from our tiny apartment-size kitchen where we make food-to-order for breakfast and lunch. We also serve beer, wine and sake. Breakfast specialties include our vegetarian, gluten free crustless quiche, plus a baked oatmeal, salmon scramble, French Toast, and of course biscuits and gravy! Lunch begins at 11:30 with specialties that include home made meatloaf, smoked wild-caught salmon BLT, club sandwich, and our cheesy apple sandwich! We have gluten free entrees and bread. The line to order goes fast but quality food takes time, especially since it's made-to-order in a tiny kitchen. Come to Granny's Kitchen to relax and unwind. Great food, great friends and wonderful memories are made every day at Granny's Kitchen.

Ohhhh my goodness - one of the biggest and best sandwiches that i've had in a LONG time!! We popped in here after exploring the mine and were STARVING! Well, good thing because Granny's portions do not disappoint. They have a lovely patio and on the inside, you literally feel like you're in your granny's home. It is so quaint and cozy.
We had our sheepie with us so chose to sit on their lovely shaded patio and people watch while we ate! As soon as I walked through their picket fence gate they greeted me with a smile and brought Harvey homemade dog treats!!! Now if this doesn't win you over, I don't know what would!
I ordered their club sandwich and it was so dang delish! I loved the buttery toasted sourdough bread. I told myself that I wouldn't eat it all but honestly, I couldn't stop and ALMOST finished it! If you're in the area and in need of a hearty lunch - come to granny's, she won't disappoint!!Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Karen H.San Diego, CA259113410217Feb 21, 2019
Cutest little cottage cafe and coffee shop that feels like visiting grandma's house. They offer outdoor seating but it was way too cold. But don't worry there is plenty of seating inside. The interior is sprinkled with real photographs of the family and grandma's items. It feels warm and homey inside.
They offer breakfast until 11:30 then they switch to their lunch menu. They have a wide selection and variety of coffees to choose from. Prices are very reasonable. We both ordered a breakfast burrito mine without meat and his with sausage. It comes with potatoes, scrambled eggs tomatoes, cheddar cheese, your choice of meat, wrapped in a tortilla. It comes with a side of salsa with a chipotle flavor. They have hot sauces available too. After the long drive with no breakfast, this burrito really hit the spot. It had good flavor and was a great size. I devoured my entire burrito.
Staff is very friendly and attentive. They have a self service water dispenser next to the coffee. Very nice little cafe, I wouldn't mind coming back again next time we're in Julian.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Dec 30, 2016
Definitely a waste of time coming here. Came here based on hearing they had vegan options. The line was long but being limited on what I can actually eat, my friend and I waited patiently. The line doesn't just move slow... it moves incredibly slow... I think a snail moves faster than the line did. The wait reminds me of the movie "Zootopia" where the sloths were working at the DMV... no joke!!
After waiting an hour in line JUST TO ORDER, I get to the front and I ask for the vegan wrap which was clearly listed on the menu only to find out, "we stopped making it." What the #%!? Pregnant, starving, and needing to pee like crazy, I asked what other options were available. She said, "we can make you a salad." Ummm... no thanks... apparently she had been telling the customers before me that it was 45 minutes to get your food and 15 minutes to get your drinks. So I'm supposed to wait another 45 minutes on top of an hour for a freaking salad. This place was a joke. I have never been more floored over an establishment.
I did what any other pregnant vegan would do... order 2 EXPENSIVE Vegan/GF Peanut Butter cookies. I did vocalize that the wrap should not be on the menu... had I known there wasn't a vegan option we would NEVER have waited. This clearly shows it's a poorly run establishment. Items no longer available are kept on the menu I stead of being crossed off or whited out. That's just not cool. Vegan or not... update your menus!!!!
The lady at the register did not sympathize with me and offer anything for waiting an hour for 2 descent but totally not worth the wait, cookies.
Oh and there was another 15 minute wait just to use the bathroom. Thanks to he kind lady that let me cut in front of her to use he potty... the other 3 unkind people in front of me, just wait... KARMA!!!
Skip this place... food didn't even look good. If you're smart, bring your own meals or eat before heading into Julian.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Mar 12, 2019
Excellent baked goods & friendly staff make this Julian joint a worthwhile stop.
Came for the peanut butter cookies, which did not disappoint--they tasted exquisitely homemade with the perfect thick, chewy consistency. But I was truly won over by the strawberry orange scone, which was huge & resembled a rustic biscuit--the flavor was outstanding thanks to the many pleasing nooks & crannies + the generous chunks of fruit which combined to deliver an extremely satisfying snack.
The home fries could have used a bit more crunch for my liking but we're still good. The server brought my delicious dirty chai out promptly to the porch & even gave my friend's pup a doggie treat.
Will definitely make a beeline for Granny's next time I'm in town.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 20, 2017
We wanted to come here because it was one of the dog-friendly spots with patio seating. Mistake.
It took me 45 minutes to even get to the front of the line to order. I could not fathom why on earth it was taking SO LONG. When I got in line, I was just before the sidewalk. As my soul slowly died, we took mini steps towards the front of the line. 90% of the people sitting outside didn't even have food - already a bad sign.
The menu looked good, I wanted it to be good. But after waiting for 45 minutes and seeing them continually run out of ingredients and needing to run next door to buy it...was a bad sign. Should have bailed the line. They ran out more than once to grab a gallon of milk from next door. Why not purchase more than 1 at a time??
Anyway, end up with Mom's Buffalo Sandwich, a small cup of chicken tortilla soup, and kids corn dogs. Oh it also took 45 minutes to get the food! Now that we were starving.........
Mom's Buffalo Sandwich - sounded amazing! But was pretty regular. That with the price of the sandwich, not worth it. Small cup of chicken tortilla soup. It was tasty! But, it was so small...so very small. Kids corn dogs looked sad at best. The best thing? The animal crackers. ::gasp:: Really. The animal crackers tasted good.
I wanted to tell the people who got in line to not bother. I really wanted this place to be good but sadly, it took way too long and stole 1.5 hours of my life. Should have eaten before coming to Julian and just gone for the apple pie.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Oct 22, 2016
If this restaurant were in San Diego I would only give it three stars, but I think it's a pretty good choice for Julian.
You order at the counter, get a number, and your food is delivered to your table. There's lots of seating both inside and out, and turnover is fairly quick. Even on a crowded autumn weekend we had no trouble getting a table. The wait wasn't too bad either.
The crustless quiche was actually pretty good! It was flavourful, cheesy without being greasy, and had just the slightest hint of heat from the green chilies. I would definitely order it again. The salad was a good assortment of premixed greens, but some of the lettuce was going bad at the edges and the carrots were dry and turning white. Bummer. But I guess it was nice to get some vegetable in there with all the pie we ate.
Speaking of pie, this place does a deep dish apple that weighs a pound a slice. It's not quite as large as I imagined, but still more than I would care to eat by myself. The apples had a nice buttery taste, but were overcooked and the filling was veering toward applesauce. The crust was pretty good though, and the sugary top was great! If you only have room for one piece of pie in Julian, I wouldn't make it this one. But if you're up for several slices, this wouldn't be a bad addition to your day.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Oct 2, 2017
4.5 stars.
The indoor dining area in the back is so quaint and pretty, with so much natural light and windows where the breeze comes through.
You stand in line to order and get a number, then you take a seat.
I ordered the half sandwich and soup combo - chicken pesto salad sandwich on rye bread with tomato basil soup. The soup was delicious, it's slightly creamy but not too overwhelming, with a semi-chunky texture to the soup. The chicken pesto is really refreshing, though the rye bread didn't come already toasted as I would like, maybe just need to request it during order next time. The pesto isn't too strong though, and just tasted more like mayo based.
I tried a bite of my husband's hot pastrami. Really delicious mustard and the pastrami wasn't too dry at all because it was supposed to be pan seared but only so lightly.
My friend ordered the salmon BLT, which is a smoked salmon. He highly praised it as well.
Service was great and prices are super reasonable. I will definitely return!!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 6, 2016
Stopped here for lunch. If coming from the 79, it's one of the first places you'll pass. Came here on a weekday, lunchtime, not busy at all.
Like everything else in Julian, you automatically get that quaint small town vibe. Outdoor patio seating in the front, also some indoor tables available.
Order at the counter and your food is brought to your table.
A little expensive, I believe our sandwiches were about $14 each, they came with one side. I got kettle chips, and husband had Cole slaw with his sandwich. Both our sandwiches were served on slices of sourdough. Very cool and fresh, a nice lunch for a warm day. Husband loved his Cole slaw which had chopped apples mixed in. Also very fresh. My kids got mini corn dogs, $3 for 4 pcs. Nothing special at all, but my kids were satisfied.
Their display of baked goods looked super tempting and tasty, but it was a little expensive compared to the prices of similar items along main.
The young lady and older gentleman here were both very friendly and checked on us a few times.Helpful 13Thanks 0Love this 16Oh no 0 - Amanda C.Temecula, CA16445348Nov 9, 2018
Granny's Kitchen is such a gem in Julian. I've been here once before to buy coffee on my travels and recently stopped in again on Wednesday. I had planned to only order an iced coffee and carry on home, but I was distracted by the desserts and had to look. As someone who has celiac (allergic to gluten) and is also vegan, I never expect to find something I can eat unless I'm at a restaurant that is vegan friendly. To my absolute joy and surprise, inside the dessert counter was an amazingly delicious looking peanut butter cookie that was BOTH vegan and gluten free! I haven't had a peanut butter cookie in YEARS so I had to have it. It was delicious!
The customer service is awesome. They're super friendly! It's definitely worth it to stop by. Try the peanut butter cookie!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Ceci F.Ventura, CA450172119Oct 26, 2018
We just stopped by to get some coffee. The pastries and menu looked del ious, the staff was friendly, it's on a cute street so there's plenty to see. The brewed coffee had grinds in it, and I didn't care for their almond milk that they use for lattes.
I give them four stars because I think that just getting coffee doesn't justify me to review them overall.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
