    • Q:

      Are there gluten free options?

      A:

Yes. Rice, even "glutenous" rice, is naturally gluten free. Lot's of dim sum have rice wrappers and/or contain corn starch (also gluten free). Some of the noodles are made with rice. There will be some dim sum and noodles that use wheat flour. If… more

Truly exceptional dim sum - easily detectable from the standard imports. Sesame balls were soft and melts in your mouth. The radish cakes tasted like they were freshly made. The phoenix claws were flavorful.

Cart ladies were pushing their dishes as usual, but not overbearingly so.

Overall, we were delighted with all our choices, and certain that you'd enjoy the food if you were here. Highly recommend.

We (2 people) got a table quickly.

Dim Sum selection was not good. They tasted ok.

Wow! Prices were ridiculously high while we only ordered basic dishes!

This place used to be great. Pandemic, food prices or what not... we aren't going back there any time soon.

My partner and I stopped by Golden Unicorn on a Friday night at around 5:40pm. We went straight up to the 3rd floor to inquire some party information.

To our surprise, Golden Unicorn (which I have never been to before), is modern, spacious and clean. The staff are extremely helpful and quick on their feet. I am also stunned to find out that they not not only owned the 3rd floor, but also the 2nd and 5th floor, while the 4th floor is the main kitchen. On the ground floor, they serve dim sum from morning until night.

To sum, I think Golden Unicorn owns this whole building on East Broadway. Though they only utilize the 3rd floor for weekday dining experiences. And the secondary floors for parties and wedding. Each floor is spacious and it came with great lighting and two small bathroom stalls on each floor.

The food is great but the prices on the higher end in comparison to the other dim sum places in a Chinatown. As the night progress, the crowd keeps on coming in. Mostly locals who speak English.

The services are quick, the food comes out fast. It's a nice place to sit down but it's expected that the crowd and the noise level will go up. I would recommend this place for your out of towners and locals alike, and especially those who have never had dim sum before. It's a good place to introduce your friends to Chinese foods to.

I really enjoyed all of the dim sum options and the endless carts of buns and cakes. Coupled with the endless pots of tea, this is a great experience for those interested in trying lots of different items or those in a group and wanting to share.

It took us about an hour and 20 minutes for our table of 13 to be accommodated. People need to arrive at the same time to be seated. The staff was friendly and kept checking on us throughout the meal. We went with a Jasmine tea and a Pu'er tea. As long as you take the lid off and leave the lid ajar, they will continue to fill your tea.

My favorite bites were the steamed pork buns, the rice roll noodle with barbecue pork, the Chinese Broccoli, and the steamed piglet puns. There are lots of vegetarian options as well. The eggplant with garlic sauce, green beans, and steamed bean curd skin rolls were all very delicious.

We went for Lunar New Year. Don't let the common exterior and corporate lobby dissuade you. Once you make it up the stairs or elevator to the dining room, you are bound to be surprised. The table was dressed in a bright red cloth, there are opulent chandeliers, and the waitstaff is dressed with vests and bow ties. It's a well run ship with courteous staff and delicious foods.

First time back in 2 years and I will say that it was a better experience this time! My qualm last time was the quality of the food (didn't taste fresh, came out lukewarm). This time I felt like the food was better. My fave spot is still House of Joy, but I think this place is a solid option as well.

They come around with the carts and you can also order a la carte. They have all the usual dim sum staples, plus some unique and very Instagram worthy dishes. Came with a group of 7 people on a Sunday and wait was around 30 minutes - your full party must be there to get seated. Restaurant is large and can accommodate very large parties.

I was lucky enough to come here for a wedding for a 10 course dinner - the food was amazing but I'm afraid to look at the prices! The all-star item in my opinion was the roast duck, served in an amazingly soft mantou with an even more amazing sauce! Even the Chinese broccoli was so good, with mellow roasted garlic and cooked in an oil that was so smooth it tasted like butter. I forgot to take a picture of everything except the super cute warm custard buns decorated with cute little piggies on top. My kids were so excited to try them for breakfast the next day.

A NYer told me that this is one of the best dim sum restaurants in NYC and I believe it!

Dim sum is one of my favorite foods, so getting dim sum in NYC Chinatown was a must-do during my trip. It was dinnertime. I first went to Nom Wah and waited in line for over an hour. Finally, I was seated and was ready to order a bunch of food, but I saw the note on their menu that says American Express is the only credit card accepted. I only had enough cash for one item, so I quickly ate and went to find another place to satisfy my dim sum craving.

At this point, it was almost 8 P.M. Yelp told me that Golden Unicorn was nearby and still open, so I bolted over. The restaurant was a little confusing to find. The entrance is on East Broadway and not Catherine Street, which seems to be for take-out only, and you have to take an elevator up to the restaurant. The restaurant is huge. It looks like the typical Chinese banquet space used for weddings and parties. It was busy, but there was a table open, and I was quickly seated. The staff was fast and courteous. There were no dim sum carts during dinnertime, but dim sum is served all day. The menu had ample options, and I ordered har gow, siu mai, chicken feet, and steamed spare ribs. Maybe it was because I was so hungry, but the food was amazing and hit the spot.

NYC Chinatown dim sum did not disappoint, and Golden Unicorn is a good spot for it. I will go to Golden Unicorn again. They take all credit cards unlike Nom Wah.

Your standard dim sum fare with great variety. The dim sum wasn't mind blowingly good, but it was great dim sum nonetheless. My favorites were the piglet buns, steamed shrimp dumplings, steamed sticky rice, shrimp rice noodles, and sesame balls. I'll pass on the lobster dumplings and sweet tofu pudding next time. The value was great as we only spent about $30 per person.

We came at noon on a Wednesday and the second floor was only half full. If you have never been to dim sum before, employees push carts of dim sum around the restaurant and you pick what you want to eat from the cart. We had great service and never had to go out of our way to flag down a cart. The employees were definitely most comfortable speaking Chinese, but I wouldn't be intimidated if you can't. The cart aunties weren't short or impatient with me even with my choppy Mandarin.

The interior was clean and elegantly decorated. They take both cash and card and you pay at the front.

Best dim sum restaurant in Manhattan. This place is huge with 3 floors and always busy. Definitely come as soon as they open and with the entire party or they won't seat you. As soon as you are seated there's carts strolling around with infinite options from noodle dishes, wonton soup, clams, soup dumplings, steamed and baked pork buns, shrimp dumplings, turnip cakes, chicken feet, etc. don't miss the sweet ones, like the egg tart, pineapple bun, and piglet bun. My favorite was the piglet bun filled with custard, I would come back her just to eat these alone. The service is quick and efficient. The restaurant and restrooms are clean. Highly recommend coming with a big party so you can try everything.

I really enjoyed my visit to the Golden Unicorn for dinsum today. The food was good and the service was much better than expected.

Located in Manhattan's Chinatown, the Golden Unicorn is just a short walk away from the Brooklyn Bridge and Brooklyn Bridge subway station.

On our visit, we ordered jiufen with fried shrimp, chicken's feet, luobo gao, pork buns, pork ribs, wrapped sticky rice and lava buns. They were all quite good but I liked the pork buns, lava buns and jiufen with fried shrimp the most.

Also, the service was very good, and the staff helped us get new sauces, plates and tea throughout our meal.

Without a doubt, Golden Unicorn is one of the few solid dim sum restaurant in Manhattan's Chinatown.
