Very yummy and warm dessert on a cold day! Service was excellent and speedy! Loved the popcorn chicken too. Very cozy store and amazing atmosphere. 100% would recommend for high tea!

Super cute cafe with both sweet & savory snacks! The must get here is definitely the fresh mango sago with coconut milk, I also add dumplings (mochi balls) and it always hits the spot! I also tried something new and got fresh fruit with sweet tofu which was also a good balance of sweet and refreshing. The prices ranged from $7-$11 per dessert which is a little pricey for the size but I think it's a good place to go and share with friends.
The service is nice and sometimes it can take a while when it's busy, I'd say it's a very in and out type of cafe. It's bright and the white marble tables are a nice touch. There's a lot of parking around the area too!

My favorite Hong Kong style cafe in the city! I've been coming here since I was in high school and I'm glad this cafe survived through the pandemic. They're known for their hot and cold Cantonese desserts as well as savory finger foods/snacks (sandwiches, popcorn chicken, fish balls, etc.). We ordered the:
*yummy mango
*sago with mixed fruit and mango juice: the mango juice was served in a slushy consistency and was pretty sweet without tasting artificial
*tapioca and sago in coconut milk (hot): it was a pretty cold evening so this dessert hit the spot with warm coconut milk
They can get pretty busy at night depending on the day of the week so sometimes there can be a wait. There's an abundance of street parking/metered parking, especially at night. Golden Island is definitely the place to come for an after dinner treat.

In my 30s now but I have been in this place a lot in high school and college. Always had a good experience back then.
I Was here with my family yesterday 1/25/2024 at noon. The waitress who was working that day for whatever reason seemed to discriminate us because we aren't Chinese. She served tea to all other guests except us and was rude overall. She also had the audacity complaining we tipped too low.
Yeah good luck Golden Island hiring these kind of people, I am never coming back. You just lost a local.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 9, 2024
Long time no golden. I use to come here in high school but haven't found myself going in a long time because of the super long line. I went last week and ordered the popcorn chicken. I had the coconut milk purple rice and mango on the bottom left. I like it cos it's not too sweet but if you like it more sweet, grab something w mango.
I think the popcorn chicken would've been saltier / more flavorful maybe some basil. But added the white pepper powder & chili powder, it was better.
The wait wasn't too bad so maybe I will find myself coming back.

Now that desserts cost the same as a meal, it's nice to go somewhere that doesn't cost too much.
In the evenings, this place is packed and opens til late night.
This afternoon, all seats were open in this well-lit welcoming space! We ordered the mango sago with ice cream and I had the hot half black sesame and half walnut paste. (Black sesame is good for your hair and walnut is good for the brain! )
Desserts here are not too sweet & very delicious!
There's also a lot of food and snacks on the menu worth checking out, too.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 15, 2024
Their egg and spam instant noodle hits as a late night snack. They use Hong King's signature NISSIN noodles and it's definitely a comfort food. We also tried their Dun Lai, mango deluxe, and fresh mango sago with coconut milk. Service was quick and with their pricing, it's definitely worth a visit!

Love the new packaging for their sago desserts, it's a tall square container that carries so much. I'm always pleasantly shocked at the large portion of popcorn chicken that comes in one order too. Their chicken is crispy, well seasoned, and the chicken remains tender and juicy.
For a heavier decadent & filling dessert, try out the HK french toast. It's a deep fried french toast with peanut butter sandwiched in the middle, and is served with maple syrup and butter. Sounds basic but it's actually sooo good!
Plenty of small tables if you want to dine in, but ordering for takeout is just as convenient. They prepare orders in under 10 minutes so don't worry about a long wait.

Pick up: order through their website for pick up
Ordered: Popcorn Chicken ($6.95)
Golden Island was THE Hong Kong dessert spot that everyone went to during my teen years, and it seems that still rings true today! I usually order a mango sago dessert when I come here, but I was only craving some Basil Popcorn Chicken today.
I placed an order through their website for pickup. After I placed my order, it was ready for pickup in about 15 minutes. The portion is very generous for the price of $6.95.
The chicken bits were well marinated in 5 spice seasoning, perfectly salted, with a nice crispy coating. I wish the coating had more tapioca starch so that it would be both crunchy & chewy, but it was still really good as is! I made my own spicy mayo dip by mixing Japanese Kewpie Mayo & Sriracha, and it's the perfect dipping sauce! - Dec 1, 2023
Cute little Asian dessert spot in sunset that my family loves coming to! Whenever we get the chance to go into the city we always like ending the day by coming to this spot. We ordered the coconut mango sago, mango pomelo sago, coconut black rice, and black sesame desserts. They all taste really good and aren't too sweet which Asian parents love! They have a ton of savory items too such as popcorn chicken, French fries, and sandwiches too. They've been in business for a long time now and it's great to see this local business continue thriving!
