This was a "meh" curry. The portion is huge for a small so come with an appetite so you definitely get your money's worth. But be aware that the cost goes up rather quickly when you start adding on the extras. But that's more common sense then anything.
The curry is on the peppery side which is different from other Japanese curried I've tried. I've had the famous CoCo Curry and this is different but it was nice to have a on a cold day.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jun 16, 2021
Not to be confused with Go Go Power Rangers (which is for kids) or Go Go Dancers (which are not for kids, but I loved them when I was a kid).
The owners are lovely people. They have some adorable employees too, and a loyal following for yummy curry.
They offer some great food options here and are very popular for East Asian style comfort food and fusion... Japanese inspired, I'd say, or perhaps a little Taiwanese and Korean. You know the kind of thing. It's good stuff though, and there's a reason everybody loves it.
Some of the food is kinda high in calories, but it's tasty and worth it, and I believe they have the same owner as Gong Cha next door, and they do pretty well as far as Chinatown restaurants go, but not nearly as well as GC, which seems to be slammed 24/7 and that's understandable.Helpful 12Thanks 0Love this 17Oh no 0 - K H.Seattle, WA154175Jul 4, 2022
Giving it a four star because it's Go Go Curry. I love this place to pieces and it holds some nostalgia; I had no money in uni and used to go to one in New York, get a no topping small, on the 5th of each month, and then get a free topping coupon for $5. The flavour here is still on par with other locations, although my last visit here, June 2022, the curry was noticeably lacking compared to other visits to this same location.
This location itself does not warrant 4 stars. Their posted hours are Monday through Sunday 10:55 AM to 9:55 PM. However I went at 6:30 on a Sunday and returned the next day at opening and they were closed. I don't mind them cutting down hours. But you need to have signeage so people don't waste time and gas coming. This location's instagram hasn't been updated since 2021 and their facebook since god knows when. No signs at all at the store. I don't live in Houston. Go Go Curry is 25% of the reason I drive all the way here, so needless to say it's pretty disappointing to roll up and find it's closed unannounced.
This location is also always empty. I don't know if I'm just coming in off hours for them. But given the shrinkflation, random unannounced closing, and emptiness, I'm worried this place will close. I hope that won't be the case, I would love if Go Go could open across the country.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 343125366Oct 18, 2021
There was only one employee working due to the pandemic, but he was so sweet and prepared our food as quickly as he could despite the flux of customers. The portion sizes are pretty good, I got a small and was full after my meal. The pickled veggies are a must if you want a change in texture and flavor so the curry isn't as heavy. The katsu and curry were average, I'd come back if I was craving curry and didn't have anything to make it at home

I didn't get the name of the employee today, but he was working all by himself. The only one there to answer phone calls, prepare orders and take walk-in orders. I asked him why. He revealed ever since the pandemic, only one employee is scheduled to work instead of two. This is the effect the pandemic has on businesses. Please be more patient and understanding, especially if only one employee is working. They are trying their best to manage the workflow.
I ordered the World Champion to share with my boyfriend. I didn't even ask, but the employee split the order in half for us. That was nice! I appreciate his attentiveness.
My boyfriend is in the food industry and can spot a hard worker from a mile away. The only employee with his grease-stained shirt and still took his time to make sure our food was aesthetically pleasing.
I had to show my appreciation by leaving a nice review. Oftentimes, we are quick to share the negatives instead of the positives. Thank you!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Emely A.Richmond, TX919170426Jul 15, 2021
Food was ready very quickly - the grand slam and two of the medium (one pork one chicken) were ordered. The cashier was very patient and friendly.
Food was okay - we may just not be a fan of Japanese style curry I guess. The grand slam is advertised differently on the photo in the store and in the menu. Basically the only thing that was really different between this large size and a medium was the extra hard boiled egg and one more sausage.
The good thing was the curry wasn't salty but def needed more flavor - a heap of Tabasco is a must.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 25, 2021
The lunch special is a good deal only if you go on the right day for the one you want. This location is following safe procedures. Mask is optional. I got the sausage curry and it was actually good. The last time I went was 2 years ago during their grand opening.

Had the home run curry delivered for lunch. Tempura was still crispy... overall Go Go Curry never disappoints.

I ordered their medium size 8 oz. Curry with chicken katsu and one sausage link earlier this afternoon and it was fantastic. I have been looking for a great Japanese curry and this hit the spot. The curry sauce was very delicious with a savory, salty, slightly spicy and slightly sweet flavor all in one. The chicken katsu was breaded very well n not too heavy with a very delicious flavor and very tender chicken. The sausage link was good too and about two bucks for the add on. The rice was very fresh and the chopped up cabbage was good in the order with the rest. The food here was very delicious n the curry has a mild, but noticeable great flavor. The chicken katsu especially went very well with the curry and rice. Great service on this visit as well.

I'm not sure why this place has bad reviews. A lot of reviews call this place expensive, but I think it's very reasonable - around $10-12 for a meal. Why is that expensive? Because it's a bowl of rice with meat and curry? Isn't that what pasta is - a bowl of grains with meat and sauce? No one would call a bowl of pasta for $10-12 expensive.
Anyway - the curry is delicious, as is the meat on top of the bowl. The meat is perfectly breaded and tender on the inside. If you're going to get toppings, I recommend getting the Home Run combo. It's a medium bowl with shrimp, sausage and eggs - individually, they would cost $14.95, but the Home Run combo is $12.55. Mind you, the medium is a large portion - you'll definitely have leftovers.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
