Gatsby's Saloon

I came here for lunch on a weekday and wasn't impressed... but I could maybe be swayed into giving a seafood or steak dinner a try.

I had my meal outdoors on the patio; it's not very large, but a lovely addition when the weather is nice. The interior was okay. My server was overall quite good.

Food left much to be desired. I was one of only a few patrons (all of which already had their food) but the Traverse City Chix Wrap that was delivered to me looked like it had been hastily made - never a good quality to have in a wrap, as it tends to unravel. Taste was mediocre... something I could have constructed better at home. The fries came across as basic frozen steak fries one simply drops in the fryer.

Again, a decent middle of the road kind of place. My lunch was relatively inexpensive and so I didn't feel as if I were getting cheated, but I would be curious if I felt the same way after ordering the pricier dinner options.

There is a reason this place is always PACKED. been here several times and nothing has disappointed. Or should i say, short of phenomenal majestic goodness. My favorite starter is probably the salmon dip. You cannot go wrong with any of the steak or seafood items. Can't believe small little restaurant in middle nowhere Michigan makes one of the best steaks I've ever had. You also can't beat the price

Need to thank and give our waitress a huge raise, if you're reading this owner. Forgot her name but she wears glasses with short hair. Shes an outstanding attentive waitress

Very cool, very homey atmosphere here. It's been around twenty years as I learned from my waitress. I had to ask. I couldn't tell if this place had been around for fifty years or for five. People go so all out on decor sometimes now just to make a place look like a lived in institution. Turns out I could have split the difference there; Gatsby's isn't old school yet but it's working on it and it already looks the part.
I ordinarily wait for more than one visit to review a place but who knows when and if I'll find myself back in Bay City. I was on my way to visit some friends Up North ™ in Wolverine and had to get off the road for a bit and fill my belly. I just drove right to downtown Bay City figuring I'd find something and Gatsby's fit the bill perfectly.
My steak was sizzling and delicious and my shrimp were a nice upcharge side. The Caesar salad was adequate, nothing special but nothing to complain about either. My side of mixed vegetables left something to be desired. Definitely had that frozen feel and nothing in the way of herbs and spices to liven them up. A minor bump in the road though, as the more substantial items in my meal were definitely satisfying. The steak wasn't the biggest but as far as 2024 prices, pretty reasonable for the money.
Service was spot on. Gatsby's is a solid spot, I'd dare say Great and I wouldn't mind returning if I find myself on the shores of the Saginaw River not far from Saginaw Bay.

Gatsby's Saloon offers an upscale tavern atmosphere with good food and drink. Escargot is prepared and served outside their shell in a cheesy, garlic herbed butter and has a steakhouse feel/taste, which is pleasant. The sashimi grade tuna could use a bit more aggressive sear, but is also of great quality. Sitting at the bar, we received quick and friendly service. I recommend!

Stopped in for lunch. Waitress very attentive, asked her what was good being this was our first time dining there. She recommended a few dishes. I went with the stuffed flounder and my husband had the fish and chips. We were both satisfied with our choices. Food was fresh and delicious

It's so hard to find stuffed flounder, so this is what brought us to Gatsby's. Sound size portion that was delicious! I opted to get the lobster sauce on the side because sometimes it overpowers the fish. My husband got the steak sandwich which he also enjoyed. Service was excellent at 4:30pm.

Gatzbys is a pretty good place to grab a bite to eat. It's got an old-school vibe to it. Long narrow restaurant with exposed brick walls, pretty cool old school bar. Just as a nice atmosphere. I have ate there several times and it's consistently pretty good. I would not say it's great, but there's not a lot of great options in the area, so it actually is one of the better places. I have not tried their steaks, but I've had a burger, the flounder Del Ray and a seabass special. All of them were pretty good. I've also tried the escargot and it's not bad either. The prices are reasonable and I feel like the food is good for what you pay.

I don't feel they make good drinks I've had a few there and they're never really very good. Better to stick with a glass of wine or a beer if ordering an alcoholic beverage

The service is pretty good. The wait staff that I've had have always been friendly and attentive.

While I can't say I highly recommend it, I will absolutely say that if you're in downtown Bay City and want to grab a decent bite to eat, Gatsbys is a pretty good option.

Good food, good service, liked the ambiance.
First we tried the spinach dip and pita chips. I'd go back to Gatsby's just for that! For dinner I had the sirloin with grilled shrimp. Loved the shrimp, the steak was ok. Loved the side of twice baked potatoes. Hubby had the stuffed flounder and maple sweet mash. His dinner was wayyyyy good!! If we were back in the area, I would go there again.

Sherry was our server was really good. Steaks tasted like they were not seasoned at all. Mine was cooked perfectly but had to send the wife's back. I though $11 for 2 crab cakes was a bit much but they were very good. Really disappointed about the steaks though.
