futurelazertiger is a new tattoo shop in Ferndale. It just opened in summer 2017. It's got a nondescript, yet bright blue storefront right on Woodward. Perhaps in the future they'll add a sign, but for now you'll definitely need to nav there.

My best friend and I decided to get matching My Chemical Romance tattoos to solidify our love for the 2000s emo pop punk band. In her Instagram research, Brooke came across Kyle Evans and immediately noticed some other MCR tattoos he's done. Obviously he was the right artist for us! She booked an appointment for the following month. All artists at futurelazertiger are by appointment only and do their own booking. No phone calls!

On the day of our appointment, we both parked on the side street near the building and went inside. The waiting area is small but welcoming. Kyle came out immediately and introduced himself. Through email, Brooke gave him an idea of what we were looking for. He was so excited to show us what he designed and we immediately fell in love.

I was first in the chair. Kyle was quick with setup, made sure I was comfy and got to work. He was super-relatable. We chatted about music and restaurants and our tattoos. His touch was light, which was great on the back of my arm. My finished tattoo is GORGEOUS. It's my first large tattoo, so I'm thankful it was done by such a talented artist.

While he was doing the MCR tattoo, we talked about my crappy owl tattoo I got back in June by a nervous apprentice at a shop in Denver. Kyle offered to redo it since he was already set up with black ink anyway. That was super-nice of him. He transformed that tiny tattoo into something I am proud of!

Brooke got the same design on her thigh. Kyle did a great job making the tattoos with the same overall design but putting his own spin on the details.

The shop is very open, with no wall separation between the tattoo stations. I'm sometimes weird about that, but luckily all the artists in the shop were all very friendly and down-to-earth. I didn't get the "holier-than-thou" vibe from anyone. They do not perform piercing at this shop, fyi. Brooke and I paid cash, but Kyle did give us the option to pay by card. I don't know if there would have been an additional fee to do that.

futurelazertiger is an excellent tattoo shop in a good location with world-renowned artists. I suggest following their shop Instagram page to familiarize yourself with their artists. Each artist has their own Instagram page where you can find their email address for inquiries about booking.

Amazing! My artist, Jordan, was completely professional, easy to communicate with, very personable, and of course, incredibly skilled. I can't wait to visit him again. The shop was in great condition; clean and organized.

Leila did an amazing job translating my cat into a beautiful tattoo, I've gotten so many compliments. We had to split it into two sessions, but she made it look so good after the first that no one seemed to realize it was only half done. Being a private studio, it was a calm environment with very little in and out and it never felt rushed. I highly recommend this shop and especially Leila D'Amato who is so sweet and incredibly talented with years of experience.
It's been a month since I finished my tattoo and I haven't had issues with fading, fall out or blow outs. I'm still very much in love with my tattoo.

Kiri is an amazing artist! She did designed and tattooed both myself and my boyfriend. Amazing attention to detail and color. Great communication too. The place is clean, organized and very professional. Highly recommend if you're planning on getting a tattoo.

Had a great experience with Kerri! She did an amazing job reworking/updating an important, decade old piece for me. The tattoo shop is clean, everyone is friendly & laid back and the place is artsy & bright! I liked the atmosphere a lot and hope to return again. I love how inclusive and involved they are in the community and social activism.

This tattoo studio is full of funny, friendly, and talented artists!! Each of them have a unique style and the care they put into their work really shows!! (Check out their instagrams to get a feel for what they each do) The studio is comfortable and super clean as well!! Geary has done two tattoos on me and I am beyond happy with them!! He does incredible artwork and goes the extra mile to make sure you're comfortable/content during the process, he truly has a heart of gold!! I feel so comfortable in this shop and I love the privacy!! I've been to other shops who stop tattooing to answer calls, people walking in, etc. but they make sure there are no distractions!! Since this is a private studio, make sure you contact the artist you're interested in to make an appointment!!

Johnny Andres is one of the most talented artists I've ever met. Great conversation, made sure I was comfortable, and the most AMAZING work. Highly highly recommend Johnny and Futurelazertiger
