The Original Frank's Pizza - Montgomery, WV
If you haven't heard by now, the Lopez family recently took over Frank's Pizza. Yes, two of the top food titans of UKV legend and lore have come together to spawn a "super-baby" restaurant. Honestly, I cannot think of any better way to describe this magnificent union. It brings a tear to my eye. As a proud, born and bred Valley and Tech alum, I deeply mourned the closure of the iconic Lopez's Restaurant a few years ago. For most of us folks, the Al Burger is the UKV Food God and we are its loyal and hungry servants. With the closure of Benny's, only one sole restaurant was left to continue on the Al Burger legacy for our future generations. However, the Lopez family is bringing their version of the Al Burger back to life at The Original Frank's Pizza -- with a twist! Instead of the standard bun the size of a human head, diners can now choose from Al Burger pizza, Al Burger subs, and Al Burger hoagies! After learning that the restaurant is open for dine-in, David and I leapt at the chance to try out some grub. David chose his "usual"- a calzone special without mushrooms. Knowing immediately that I'd try some sort of Al Burger hybrid, I opted for the Al Burger hoagie. To top it off, we shared some cheese bread. David, always an avid Frank's calzone fan, gave his meal a "10 out of 10". The Al Burger hoagie did not disappoint. That sauce...MMM...that sauce... Oh, how I have missed that sauce! With the first bite, I swear that I could hear playing in my head, "Between the lofty mountains, where the Great Kanawha flows..." I savored every single drop. If I could give them a "20 out of 10", I would. Now, more than ever, I urge folks all around West Virginia to give the wonderful restaurants in the UKV a try. Make the Original Frank's Pizza a top priority and I personally guarantee that you won't be sorry!

My family and I have LOVED Franks from the get go! However, new owners have taken ownership over it and although it is still insanely delicious, it seems some of the food has shrank in size. The calzones used to be so HUGE and so HEAVY that they would take up the entire plate if you ate in or touch two corners of the box if you ordered to go. The food is still so so good. I do however recommend if you want the pizza to eat there instead of getting it to go or delivered.

Been going here since 1980. Over the years it's changed hands a few times but it's back to being the franks of old. Just a one of a kind place anything you get you'll enjoy.

      Ok. I want
To say the place was a nice little pizza place. The menu was typical for a pizza place. Prices were very good. Not expensive at all. Since this was my first time here I didn't know exactly what I wanted. The lady that answered the phone was very helpful. Very hospitable. The crew working were busy and all seemed to work well together.
I ordered the pizza and a calzone. The food wasn't what I expected. Everyone has different taste. This just wasn't for me.

It's under new ownership and better than ever, you've gotta try the roasted red peppers on your next pizza there.

Great place to eat. Calzones are the best you will ever eat. If you ever in the area be sure to call in a order and even try the new Al Burger Calzone and Al Burger pizza.

Route 60 headed to Hawks Nest or New River George Bridge Frank's Pizza 311 Washington Montgomery West Virginia. Cross bridge at Montgomery just minutes off hwy 60 or 61. I always order the Calzones and ask for pepperchinni or sauce and parmesan. The pizza is also homemade to order. Crust is always to perfection like brick oven. Great price and they do not skimp on toppings. Been all over the country. This Itialian place is authentic. Nice places nearby for travel supplies and soda beer wine alcohol. Oh forgot the cheese bread. Top quality.

Great small town pizza. My family has ordered Frank's for our pizza night for over 28 years.
The Frank's special calzone or the steak special, would be my recommendation.

I don't get to stop here as often as I used too. My favorite is the regular Calzone. They have absolutely the best crust on their pizza and Calzones that I have found anywhere.

I've been going to Frank's my entire life. Now that I live in MI, I miss it badly! Every time we visit Montgomery we get Frank's at least once.

      My favorites include:
      Italian Sub
      Specialty calzone
      Pizza (duh!)
      Philly steak and cheese

Great people and great food. Just do it.
