I didn't come here for the beer but I came here for the burgers and fries. This place was recommended by my friends and I was pleasantly surprsied by how delicious the food was here.
I thought the burger looked very underwhelming and thought it couldn't be THAT good, but boy was I wrong. The burger was delicious and the fries too! On top of that, it was a steal for the price.
It is a very chill bar, where you go up and order food & drinks. There are only a couple things on their food menu burger, fries, or sides. I will defintely be back for the burgers, fries, and drinks next time!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Annalee S.Philadelphia, PA666959Aug 8, 2023
I moved to Philly right after college and went through a phase where I was going to a lot of bars and drinking a lot of beer and eating a lot of French fries. I'm in my mid 30's now so those days are long over, but I still enjoy a beer and a burger and fries every now and then. Cue Fountain Porter. I wish this place had been around back then. It's the perfect E Passyunk bar - pretty cheap, does one thing well food wise (burgers and fries) - and it's v. Cheap so you don't have to wonder if going there is worth it. During happy hour my beer, burger and fries + good tip was right around $20. Can't beat it, and it's a nice place to go solo no one bothers you and the bar tenders are nice.
Oh and they serve their fries with Malt Vinegar on the side which... is there any other way?!?!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mike B.Philadelphia, PA74265Dec 19, 2023
Absolute favorite spot in the neighborhood for grabbing a quick beer to catch up with a friend or posting up for the afternoon and evening to watch the crowds come and go. Some of the nicest, helpful bar staff around. I'll never turn down an invite to meet up at FoPo. Food is delicious, just need to bring back a veg option, though I miss that cheeseburger every day since I called it quits with the beef.

Fountain Porter is such a cool (southside) neighborhood saloon, it gave me the feeling of a gentrifed "Cheers"!
With voices raising, conversations raging, people ranting this place was active. I'd really like to be here during an Eagles game, but that didn't happen.
I would have preferred to sit at their bar, but my group chose a table in the back that was just fine.
I ordered a pale ale, my son had some rye neat, and the girls had a fancy cocktail with gin.
What I really wanted to have is their $6.00 hamburger with fries. These burgers were flying out of the kitchen faster than the bartenders could mix a drink and they looked terrific.
When I'm back in Philly, this will be my first stop - burger and all. I can only hope, it's a Sunday and the Eagles, Phillies, Sixers or Flyers will be playing.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sep 25, 2021
The perfect local go-to bar. Friendly bartenders, robust beer variety, and inexpensive bar-food that is actually quite good (I got pickled jalapeños and fries which were perfect with my buzz going).

A friend suggested this place so we met up here after a show. It's a nice spot for drinks. The food menu is limited, but the food is good. We had a burger and some fries. The drink menu has an interesting variety and a good selection of craft beers. It's a small venue and can get crowded and loud. It's not good for groups. You seat yourself and there is limited table space. Overall, a nice neighborhood spot in South Philly.

Whoa, Fountain Porter, I owed you this review update! Since that very first experience six years ago, we've kept the tradition alive and hit Fountain Porter every year after purchasing our Christmas tree. This year was no exception, even if we had to get our burgers to-go.
This spot is easily one of Philly's best deals. Six bucks gets you a perfect cheeseburger. It's not fancy, but it is delicious. And three dollars for a hefty order of crispy fries? Sign. Me. Up. Don't forget to throw in a side of pickles, because Fountain Porter's are addictive and you'll want more than the two that already come with your burger.
Dinner for two, plus a nice tip, came to under thirty bucks. Can't beat it. Looking forward to our next pick-up!Helpful 20Thanks 0Love this 23Oh no 0Dec 18, 2014Previous reviewSolid! My fiancé suggested tacking a five dollar burger date on to our annual tradition of Christmas tree shopping in South Philly, so I happily agreed. Last night was my first visit to Fountain Porter. It's a cozy neighborhood bar with lots of stools in the bar area and some seat-yourself tables in the back.
The menu is small and direct: five dollar cheeseburger, three dollar fries, assorted pickled vegetables and some cheese and charcuterie. We both went for the burger, fries and a side of dill pickles. A pint of Kenzinger was a very reasonable three bucks, and the rest of the beer list was very well rounded with something for everyone.
The burger tasted great and was nicely sized - not too huge but large enough to satisfy. The fries were perfectly crisp, and the pickles were tangy and spiced just right. Also, the bartenders were really on top of things and they were both nice guys. I see a return trip in my future. - Carrie Ann R.Glenview, IL04Jul 30, 2023
Best burger in Philadelphia. Incredible and consistent every time fries are also perfection.
