Flyin Hawaiian had their food truck outside of Mikerphone Brewing in Elk Grove Village and I am extremely happy they did! Their food is full of flavor and delicious. The menu is on the food truck which offers appetizers, main courses as well as desserts. My fiance and I shared the Hawaiian plate which gave us the opportunity to try a little bit of everything. Service was very quick as it only took about 5 minutes for our order to be ready.
The Hawaiian plate came with a mac salad, side of white rice, BBQ short ribs, shredded pork and chicken with pineapple. It's hard for me to pick a favorite since I really enjoyed everything, it was well balanced and cooked perfectly. My fiance did mention his favorite was the chicken.
I hope Flyin Hawaiian ends up being a regular at Mikerphone bc we would definitely order from them again!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Antony v.Evanston, IL242215Feb 26, 2024
Got to try a few things off this truck at Fall Fest in Lake Zurich. So good, plus Jasper is really passionate about making ever as good as it could possibly be. Looking forward to trying even more items the next time we meet up.

Came across Flyin' Hawaiian's IG as another page I follow shouted them out. I starting following them and happened to make my way out to where the food truck was going to be one weekend. I was excited to try the food as there's not much 'Hawaiian' cuisine in the suburbs.
My rating seems harsh, but this is coming from someone who was born and raised in the islands. Honestly, if you had real, authentic Hawaiian food - Flyin' Hawaiian does not come close. Yes Hawaii is known for affordable plate lunches with a scoop of white rice and mac salad which is what Flyin' Hawaiian is trying to replicate. However, you pay higher prices for less portions/quality here. Mac salad - was okay, but a little too sweet and watery. Kalua pork was dry - not moist and tender like what I expected. The Huli Huli chicken is missing the smokey flavor I'm used to. The only thing I could say that was decent was the kalbi ribs, which is more Korean than Hawaiian.
We wanted to try their garlic shrimp as that looked promising...but they were not offering that at the time we ordered. Actually, I noticed a lot of things on their website are advertised but are not exactly on their food truck menu. I would recommend posting what is going to be offered at the location day of...so people (like me) aren't disappointed when they can't order a spam musubi, teriyaki wings, and/or the fried rice.
I couldn't finish my plate and that's saying something as I hate wasting food and our meal was over $30+. I had to get lunch elsewhere because I was still hungry and left unsatisfied. Glad to be supporting small business this time, but don't think they are worth a second try. Will update my rating if I ever return and the food improves to my liking.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Estrellita U.Yorkville, IL02Sep 21, 2023
I ordered the kalbi dinner plate. It was DELICIOUS, and I've been craving it ever since! The macaroni salad was fantastic too. I can't wait to order again.

My husband has been looking to go to Flyin Hawaiian for awhile now and we finally saw they were coming close to us. I am an extremely picky eater and unfortunately did not see something besides the kids menu that I would be able to eat. The owners were SO kind and made me something special. They also had no idea this was the first time I had been away from our 8 week old baby and was already anxious about it. Them creating something for me to eat was beyond accommodating and made my time memorable. Thank you so much for the outstanding customer service and delicious food! I can't wait to go back!

I love food trucks! It's great to have more food trucks in the burbs since you see them more in the city.
I, for one, have never tried Hawaiian food and this food truck brought that taste to us! The food is fresh and made to order! Their grand opening was this weekend and the owners are great!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Sep 11, 2021
Here's what you need to know: AMAZING Kalua pork. The best I've had, and I ate a lot of it in Hawaii on 3 different islands' 10 different restaurants. Juicy and flavorful. Loved it with the sweet Hawaiian role as it balances out the salty pork. Delish, and yes, it is authentic flavors.
I can't imagine why people have given this amazing food low reviews. It's a brand new truck and serving incredible made from scratch authentic food
Chanced into the food truck at Highland Park
Food truck days and am so happy about it. Tried the pork and the chicken and the macaroni salad. Everything was delicious and the Kalua pork on sweet roles really stood out. I can have that forever. It's a real family run enterprise, and the couple that runs it deserves all the acclaim as the customer service and quality focus a remarkable.
Food was very reasonably priced at $11 for 4 sliders. Loved it!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Sep 4, 2021
Alright , I was pretty excited when it popped up on my Yelp search . I called and quickly learned they are a food truck and on that particular night they would be at the plank road pub but you could follow them on FB or Instagram. After placing my order and trying the sampler plate , consisting of pork , chicken and short ribs for 20$ . Also trying the "Hawaiian" fried rice for 10$ . Wait a second some fried rice for ten bucks ?? It better be good . Well that excitement quickly turned to disappointment. Rice was greasy , chicken was salty and portions of food in comparison to a generous sum of money they required well can I just say " I felt robbed ."
So spend that fifty bucks I blew on your food "trailer "wisely because you will never see me again . You really could be more generous with your portions of food as I am with the 3 stars I just gave you . Just being real . Yours truly Johnny the food guy .Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dan M.Crystal Lake, IL14May 1, 2021First to Review
Doesn't look good for a grand opening, waited an hour and a half past the scheduled pick up time, and I was told it'll just be another half hour, and that was 45 minutes ago. I have no idea if the food is good or not, but I'd be willing to update this review to two stars if the food knocks my socks off, but as it stands it's not worth the wait...
Edit: well two and a half hours later I did receive my food, while the flavor is very good. None of it was hot anymore so I cannot in good faith give it any more than one star.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Chris B.Louisville, CO1735May 29, 2021
Unbelievable wait times. Kept saying "10 more minutes" over and over. It was an hour and a half before they took the first person's order in line. Meanwhile, they were making food for people who ordered online, while shunning those who were patiently waiting. Unfortunately for us first-timers, there is no signage or information warning us of the necessity to order ahead if you want to receive food. Once the near 2-hour wait was finally over, I received my food and it was edible, but nothing to write home about.
