Since the new owners, Red and his wife Amanda, took over last July 2015, this location has done nothing but improved constantly and is the best place in town for BBQ. The owners are very nice and friendly and good to talk to. They also get to know their customers names and really take pride in providing great service. The prices are very affordable and the servings are very large and will fill you up. All of the food and the salad bar tastes great. They also have daily specials that are even a better deal. If you want really good BBQ then come here and eat. Your wallet and your belly will both leave full.

The BBQ is tasty, the sauces are OK to above average, but could use a few more flavors. The poor mans daily lunch specials are not very good, I have eaten most of them, and learned there is a reason theyre priced so low. You get what you pay for.
Pass on those and order from the menu for something more tasty. Service is fine and friendly.
Unfortunately it seems the food has been going downhill since they opened, and its not nearly as busy inside as it was a few months ago. Hopefully they will change things and not go out of business, as its a neat concept place to eat.
They were only accepting cash, but I think they might now accept credit cards, but not for certain. The prices are as expected for this type food, average. - Jeff M.Baltimore, OH1127318May 12, 2016
So glad I stopped in for dinner. Had the smoked sausage and pork dinner special. Added the salad bar in too. Owner came out and talked with me. Everyone is very nice. Throws tastes great. Will come back here again next time in Shebyville

It pains me to write this review. It really does. It makes me sad to see a local eatery backslide in such a short amount of time, but that is exactly what has happened with Florida Cracker.
The first time we ate there in August 2014, we were SUPER impressed and told all our friends about it. Everything was delicious and SPECIAL. It seems that now they have gone the way of the quick fix.
Their smoked sausage used to be hand made. What we had last night was obviously pre-packaged. They have taken the incredible brisket they served off the menu because, as our server said, "it went up in price and no one was buying it." The sides we loved have gone down in quality as well.
I will say that the service was good and our server was friendly. And the pulled pork is still very good, as well as their sauces. So all is not lost. It was just extremely disappointing based on our first visit here.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 13, 2014Previous reviewI can't say enough about Florida Cracker! We were treated like family the moment we walked in the door, and that set the stage for an overwhelmingly positive experience all the way around! The service and food were above par. My husband and I pass through here on a weekly basis, and we will DEFINITELY be back!

I don't go to many "hole in the wall" BBQ places. I have been to a handful of larger BBQ places so I get the idea that tend to be a little unattractive in terms of decor and appearance. But this place may have been the worst restaurant I have seen in terms of appearance. But I can look past all of that if the food is good.
I ordered the pork sandwich which came which chips and a choice of side. It was a pretty good deal, but they need to get rid of the chips and get some fries. The pork was great but they need to add more choices of sauce. I didn't ask but I only saw one bottle of the same sauce at each table. You get the sides from the salad bar, which is the first I have ever seen this done. The salad bar was very small and unappealing but it was super inexpensive so fair enough.
The waitress was nice but seemed very inexperienced. She seemed overwhelmed during the "dinner rush" which was only like four tables. The child seat we were given was coated in food, but the waitress wiped it off when we asked. Overall, I would recommend getting carry out. The food is fairly cheap. The meat is pretty good. I just wish they would clean the place up a bit, and offer some really napkins or paper towels, not the cheap brown gas station bathroom paper towels.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Rick G.Indianapolis, IN35967878Mar 1, 2015Updated review
We don't get to Shelbyville, real often, but when we found we were returning for an event, and were metting out of town friends there, we knew we had to take them to Florida Cracker based on our past experience.
Sadly, it was nothing like the last itme we were there.
The last time I was there, I was SO impressed with the brisket, and had been craving it all week, and knew that was what I wanted.
Guess what? Theyv'e taken brisket off their menu. I'm not sure I recall going to a BBQ place without brisket, but, oh well, I'll get the smoked sausage. THAT also was outstanding last time.
Sadly, it is not run of the mill grocery store type smoked sausage...again, nothing like what I had before.
Well, the BBQ baked beans were outstanding last itme, maybe they'll be the saving grace.
Nope. They seemed to be straight out of the can beans.
All in all, a pretty mediocre meal that makes me wonder if they're under new ownership. I'll be generous and give them a 2 because the service was friendly and good, but it's been a long time since I've been this disappointed in a restaurant.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Aug 7, 2014Previous reviewI'll admit, I'm not a BBQ "expert". I like....no, I LOVE BBQ, but I don't know all the nuances that many of the folks do.
That said, I DO know good food when I taste it. And Florida Cracker is GREAT food.
For our visit, I had the brisket, and it was moist and tender, and quite smoky! I LOVED the flavor and it was done perfectly. I tried both the hot and the sweet sauce, and I much prefer the hot.
My wife and a sampler platter, which had at least a couple of different items. I sampled the sausage, and, oh, my goodness. That is some amazing sausage!
The sides are pretty standard...baked beans, cole slaw, etc, and they're all fantastic. The baked beans have a nice, deep, smoky flavor that makes them a cut above.
We splurged for dessert, and got the strawberry/rhubarb pie and it was simply amazing.
Add to that a staff that sincerely appreciated the fact that we chose their restaurant for dinner, and it was an over the top experience. We'll be back, and soon. - Kim V.Shelbyville, IN02Jun 11, 2014First to Review
Best BBQ ever!!! Friendly ppl too!!!
Finally a good barbecue place in Shelbyville. And they cater too. They have very good coleslaw. A cold beer would be nice to have to go with it. They said maybe later.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jennifer J.Charlottesville, VA05Jun 16, 2014
On my way back to Virginia I spotted a billboard for the Florida Cracker and decided to give it a try. Boy am I glad I did! The service is fast and friendly, and the food is delicious! I had the pork rib combo and my husband had the beef brisket. Both were tender with just the right amount of smoky flavor. The portions were large enough that neither of us finished it all.
Being from the South I was reluctant to order sweet tea, but that, too, was done just right - not too strong and with plenty of sugar.
If you're in the area I would recommend giving the Florida Cracker a try. If I lived there it would be one of my regular spots.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Melissa B.San Francisco, CA355254Jul 26, 2016
THE MEAT IS SOOOOO GOOD. Such a friendly staff!!!! Glad for Yelp this time around!! The salad wasn't great at all haha but you don't come here for that right? You come for the BBQ! Everyone in there was SO nice and friendly and I am so glad we stopped.

Was asked to give the place a second chance due to new ownership. Glad I did the wife and I came in right at opening soup bar is a great addition but the whole place had a new vibe. No surprise it got busy as we ate the food is a thousand times better and our waitress was very warm and friendly creating and helping everyone in the place. Well done and keep up the good work we will be back .

Poor customer service had to listen to the cook try and convince the waitress that he was a better choice then her man. In turn she was so busy listening to his bs we didn't get drinks til after we had our dry food. The only saving grace was the sauce was good. My buddy and I didn't even bother finishing are food.... - Kyle S.Avon, IN251Oct 31, 2015
Good food @ a reasonable price. The Brunswick Stew is awesome! You won't go wrong here!
