Fishing With Dynamite is an absolute gem nestled in the heart of Manhattan Beach, and it's truly deserving of every one of its five stars. From the moment you step foot into this cozy yet vibrant establishment, you're enveloped in an atmosphere of warmth and excitement, setting the stage for an unforgettable dining experience.
The menu at Fishing With Dynamite is a testament to the culinary mastery of Chef David LeFevre, offering a tantalizing array of seafood delicacies that showcase the freshest ingredients of the sea. Every dish is a symphony of flavors, expertly crafted to delight the palate and awaken the senses.
I had the pleasure of indulging in the Chef's Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail which were impeccably fresh and served with a variety of inventive and delicious accompaniments. Each bite was a journey of discovery, with flavors that danced on the tongue and left me craving more.
For the main course, I couldn't resist trying the Lobster Roll, and it did not disappoint. The buttery, succulent lobster was perfectly complemented by the fluffy brioche bun and just a hint of seasoning, creating a harmonious medley of textures and tastes that left me utterly satisfied.
To accompany my meal, I sampled a few selections from the impressive wine list, expertly curated to complement the flavors of the seafood. The staff was knowledgeable and attentive, providing excellent recommendations and ensuring that every aspect of my dining experience was nothing short of perfection.
In addition to the outstanding cuisine, the ambiance at Fishing With Dynamite is inviting and convivial, making it the perfect spot for a romantic date night or a lively gathering with friends. The attention to detail in every aspect of the restaurant's design adds to the overall charm and allure of the dining experience.
In conclusion, Fishing With Dynamite is a true culinary treasure, where exceptional seafood delights await around every corner. Whether you're a seafood aficionado or simply looking for a memorable dining experience, this restaurant is sure to exceed your expectations and leave you longing to return again and again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Apr 21, 2024
We were in the area, and the name of the restaurant piqued my interest. This place is small. We came on a Sunday evening, but got seated quickly because we wanted outdoors, but it was freezing and no heat lamps. BONUS POINTS!
Service was great. Friendly. Professional. Delivery of the food, however, took an hour from when we got seated to arriving at the table. It took FOREVER! I understand maybe because the restaurant was completely full and EXTREMELY BUSY... but we all ate at different times because our food arrived so spaced apart. I mean, we finished our BOTTLE of wine before the last dish came out. Wow. We've never had that happen before, and we were not extremely thirsty, or overzealous.
Overall, the food was delicious. Everything. The service. Was great! The restroom was clean. If we lived in this area, we'd most definitely give it a second chance, but we don't. Would we come back here, probably not because of the delivery of food. We didn't have dinner together. It was spaced out. The food was good, but delivery could've been better, but I'm gonna blame it on how packed and extremely busy the restaurant was. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Apr 8, 2024
After we got a table in a good section of the sidewalk (read: flat surface and no slope, close to the restaurant and not their neighbors), we had a five star experience - service, cocktails and food.
Peruvian scallops, Hamachi sashimi, tuna tartare, octopus, oysters, soft shell crab, halibut - we tried it all! Or at least it felt like it. But, of course, we still had room for key lime pie for dessert.
I think the scallops were my favorite.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 25, 20241 check-in
First time here and I'm ready to go back! I've heard about this restaurant but for some reason never ate here until today.
Started with the onolicious cocktail. As a native of Hawaii, I had to try it. It was a delicious mai tai with a li hing flavor and it was strong. I loved everything about it.
Scallops on the half shell as an appetizer were enjoyed by everyone.
My entree was the seared Maine diver scallops. I ordered it after seeing pictures on Yelp and the dish was delicious. I asked for my scallops to be well done, and they were perfectly prepared.
The steamed Manila clams were a hit and came with a baguette for dipping up the buttery wine sauce.
Someone ordered the halibut and it looked good. The portion seemed small though.
Fish and chips were pretty good. Since there was no kids menu, they made this one instead of a fish sandwich.
The restaurant is pretty small so reservations are recommended. Great service. Parking on the street or in the nearby metered lot.Helpful 9Thanks 3Love this 10Oh no 0 - Mar 11, 20242 check-ins
Fishing With Dynamite has been celebrated for serving only the most pristine seafood with accolades that include "Best Oyster Bar" and is among Chef Lefevre's diverse family of restaurants. The restaurant is located off of Manhattan Avenue, a short distance away from the Manhattan Beach pier. Parking is difficult to come by as it always is in this area, so I recommend allocating time to find parking before your reservation.
I started my meal with the Burn Bey-Bee Burn described as a "gold rush w/Elijah Craig bourbon, lemon, burnt honey" which was surprisingly refreshing for a bourbon based cocktail. Apps included Wild New Caledonian Prawns, Wild Spanish Octopus and a platter of assorted dozen Oysters. We also enjoyed Steamed Manila Clams, the Pan Seared Chilean Sea Bass, and we finished off our meal with a Key Lime Pie. Every dish was a masterpiece and I savored every single bite. We sat outdoors and although it was breezy, we were able to enjoy our food and beverages with an ocean view. Hats off to the chef, kitchen staff and servers!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - 2269189Apr 7, 2024
Before you even have one bite of the exquisite dishes served at this darling Manhattan Beach seafood restaurant, you'll feel welcomed as a very important guest. Are you dining for the first time? You'll receive an extra special treat. Our hostess found a seat for us at the Oyster Bar on a very busy Sunday and filled us in on the history of the restaurant while we got settled. Then John, our server led us through the mouth watering menu with perfect suggestions and a ton of charm. Tony, behind the raw bar, checked in frequently to be sure we were enjoying our meal. We definitely were! Each course was incredible. All five senses were activated as we tried each dish, and we had such a fun experience. The restaurant is beautiful, the service is impeccable and the food is divine. We cannot wait to go back.

One of my favorite restaurants in Manhattan Beach!
We don't go here often only because it has more of a laid-back, casual type of vibe, and when my husband and I do date night we go to spots where we can dress up a little more (with a toddler, date nights come far and few in between). That being said, it doesn't take away how good FWD is! I went here with some girl friends and we enjoyed our food very much. The fish is fresh, the fries are crispy, the seafood is delicious- the best way to describe FWD is that it is a high-quality seafood spot! I recommend if you want a casual, high-quality seafood meal. But make reservations in advance because seating is extremely limited (and cramped)!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 2, 2024
Came here to celebrate my birthday and left very happy. Great food, awesome service, and a cozy atmosphere.
We ordered a few oysters and they gave us some scallops to try with them. We also ordered the hamachi sashimi. So delicious and fresh! For our entrees, we shared the Crispy Fried Fish Sandwich and the Koshihikari Rice, which were decent. I think next time, I'll stick to the raw seafood because that is really FWD's crowning glory.
The salted Carmel pretzel bread pudding was also out of this world. I would definitely order that again!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 1 - Steve I.Pasadena, CA15416430Apr 16, 2024
Well it lived up to the hype. From one chef to another..bravovery well executed. Took a little long to get my food, and I would want a little more sauce and ramen and..ok fish too for the $48 it costs...but that sauce was amazing...some spicy fish tomato sauce or something whatever it was it was bomb. The desserts look tempting...Definitely some of the best food I've had for a while. I'll be back for sure..hopefully with a group so I can taste all their dishes.

Let me say first off, the food tasted great. The service was generally good except for one very minor request for tableware that wasn't accommodated to taste. I can't comment on the ambience since we sat outside, but it was a nice day outdoors so that was enjoyable.
Ordered some great dishes, from the clam chowder to the hamachi sashimi and tuna tartare to the main dishes of halibut and a lobster roll. Again, everything tasted great and lived up to lofty expectations based on others' reviews.
So why then only 2-stars? Well shortly after finishing the clam chowder, and starting my main, I felt a strange feeling in my stomach (uh oh). Not long after finishing my meal, to be polite, it didn't end well for the next hour and a half. Fortunately, I was fully recovered the following day. I suppose these situations are ultimately unavoidable for a seafood restaurant, no matter how reputable, but it was an unfortunate experience in an otherwise delicious seafood meal
If not for what I assume was an error in the restaurant's seafood selection, storage, or prep, this would have been a noteworthy 4 or 4.5 star dining experienceHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
