Q:
Do you take reservations?
A:
I don't believe they take reservations. You order at the front and seat yourself.

I am wanting to take my daughter there but she has food allergies to egg, dairy, and nuts. Does anyone know if their buns/rolls have egg and if their fries are in a dedicated frier? I tried calling but there is no way to talk to a live person.
A:
I wouldn't take the chance here, it's definitely not an allergy-friendly environment.

THE spot in San Luis Obispo. You will never have another tri tip sandwich like it. The juiciest most flavorful tri-tip paired with a buttery toasted bun and finished with a sweet barbecue sauce. What's not to love. And never forget a side of ranch to dip it in!
This is the best place to eat in town, so don't be intimidated by the long line out the door! They know what they're doing at Firestone so the line moves quickly and you don't have to wait long for your food.
Don't forget to get a basket of fries with your meal! They are a generous serving with the perfect blend of Cajun style seasoning on top.
Not in the mood for a huge sandwich? The Firestone salad with vinaigrette dressing is one of my favorite salads ever! Juicy tomatoes, nuts, a little bit of cheese, onions and bell pepper, you don't feel like you're eating a salad it's so good! Â
A must try in San Luis Obispo! - Christopher L.North Las Vegas, NV01031/13/2023

Tri tip and the halo- peno burger. - 60688410121/3/2023
Had a chance to swing by this spot when I was in the area and I'm so glad that I did! This place we came around 6ish and there was a long line but thankfully we were able to get through it pretty quickly.
I ended up ordering the tri-tip sandwich which cheddar cheese and this had some bbq sauce on it as well. Overall the food was good and the meat was very juicy which is why it's so popular! The sandwich was very filling and all the flavors went perfectly together. If you are looking for something flavorful and savory this is a good place to check out! - 303764213/1/2023Updated review
Came here years later and firestone grill does not fail to disappoint! I love firestone. Their onion rings are so rich as well! Highly recommend.
1/2/2021Previous reviewBest tri-tip sandwich ever! Ngl I did get food poisoning because I did not put my left overs in the fridge and decided to eat it 6 hrs later, but it was worth it. Delicious sandwiches! I highly recommend this place!

The best tri tip sandwich I've ever had!! The bread and meat were honestly amazing and fresh. The fries were also surprisingly very good and held their own. I live in the Bay Area and would definitely commute all the way have to have this again. The service was also very friendly and the restaurant itself was pretty nice as it was filled with tons of cool sports memorabilia. If you're in SLO, this is a must have!

I've been coming here for years! It's a staple for any road trip to or from SoCal and the Bay Area! Up until recently when we discovered the Bakersfield location, it was one of the main reasons we'd take the 101 instead of the 5.
**VIBE**
This place has sports bar vibes with a bunch of TVs and sports memorabilia covering the walls. This is an order-at-the-counter type of place (mostly). There is a main counter where you order with several registers, and one main line. The line can get pretty long during busy times, however the people taking orders are pretty quick with the turnaround. They issue you a number that they call on a loudspeaker for you to pick up your order at the counter.
**SEATING**
There is seating both indoors and outdoors. It can get a little chilly at night, and last time we went just before Thanksgiving, we opted not to sit outdoors since there were a lot of flies buzzing about. If you sit indoors back behind the bar area, there are servers that will take your order from your seat, restaurant style. It can get busy in the dining area, so you might have to flag someone down if they don't come right away.
**FOOD**
The tri-tip sandwich is the money maker here. I generally order extra butter on the roll, and add grilled onions. The price has gone up over the years because of inflation and all those other economic terms, but the sandwich is deliciously stacked with layers of tender meat.
The sides are also bomb. The fries in particular are amazing. They are thinner (think Micky D's), and the seasoning is straight fire! We started ordering extra seasoning a few years ago and never went back. The onion rings are also really good--they are crispy and fresh, and the breading is super tasty. I recommend ordering the half and half basket (with extra seasoning if that's your thing).
The sauces are killer! The ranch is towards the top of my list of best ranches, and their BBQ sauce pairs perfectly with the tri tip and is even good to dip fries in too! The sides of sauce are free, you just have to ask at the pick-up counter.
**OVERALL**
The combo of tri-tip sandwiches and fries/rings is a meal I look forward to months in advance. The food is delicious and it's a fun atmosphere, especially if you're a sports fan. Try to avoid going during peak hours if possible since it definitely gets packed. Already looking forward to our next trip down during the holidays!

Back again! Stellar as last time! Grabbed some pics before the beasts devoured their foods. So good!
2/10/2023Previous reviewWent back this past weekend. I always give places a second chance. This time I ordered a salad. It was AMAZING!!!! Definitely going back for another and the fries of course!
9/12/2022Previous reviewI honestly don't get it?!?! We were referred here by people who were like, "this place rocks"! Not a single person at our table liked it. The Tri Tip sandwich were nothing special. Literally it was sliced tri tip on a garlicky grilled piece of not soft French roll. That was literally it. Nothing else on it. Then you had to order a side. So coleslaw sounded good. Nope. Wrong. Worst coleslaw I've ever had. All I tasted was salt and it was barely cold. So into the trash it went. The Pig Sandwich my daughter ordered same scenario as tri tip sand which except remove tri tip and insert dry pulled pork with a splash of a bbq sauce. Shared onion rings and they were sooooo over cooked and the oil it was cooked in tasted old and they were just gross. Other kiddo had a hot dog, nothing special there it's just a hot dog. Now if there is a positive out of all this the fries were GREAT. But one basket could feed all 4 of us which would have been great to know and not let us order another... but I get it you gotta sell. Glad I went, crossing it off the list and ready to try other stuff SLO has to offer.

Love Firestone, although honestly, love their sister company in Cambria more (Main Street Grill). Still, same delicious food (not 100% cooked to perfection), although given their crowd, you can see why they may rush a bit!

If you've been to SLO before and haven't tried Firestone we need to talk. I've only had the tri tip sandwich and have no plans to change this order anytime soon. I'm sure there are other great items on the menu. I have a buddy that gets the steak taco and raves about it as well. Just give it a try and find out what the hype is all about. Btw the lines can appear to be fairly long at times but their system is super efficient so I wouldn't be scared away.

First time here. The ambiance is somewhat loud but it is a sports bar/grill so that is expected. I ordered the tri-top sandwich and side of fries and they were great! Loaded with meat and we'll seasoned fries. Definitely will come back next time I'm up here.
