We have stayed here twice and LOVED it.  OK, it's the European type of B and B.  You share the kitchen with the other folks.  But, before you get all cranky about that, we rarely saw the other folks in the kitchen and when we did, it was fun because they were from Denmark and we learned much.  Otherwise, we thought we were the only people staying there.  No noise at all.  Our room was fabulous.  We had a king size bed, a beautiful shower and bathroom area, and a table and chairs outside on the patio.  We loved watching the bats come for dinner.  Don't be alarmed, the bats are small and eat bugs.  They don't come near you.  This place is very close to one of the entrances to Yosemite.  Unless you are staying in the park itself, you really can't find a more convenient place.  Eddie, the owner, is a font of knowledge and will steer you clear to the right places.  Love Evergreen Haus and wish I could live there.

I went to Yosemite for a wedding (and mini-vacation), and I'm so glad I found this place. For very reasonable rates, I stayed in the Sequoia room, which looked just like it does in the photo. It was so large, with room to spare it fit a king bed and a full sofa bed, plus a fold-up rollaway was in one of *two* walk-in closets. It also had a huge bathroom with a beautiful large shower - with *two* shower heads! - and plenty of luxurious thick towels.

A big plus for me was the use of the large living room and kitchen, complete with a countertop movie-style popcorn popper! I didn't have to eat out at all. I had breakfast on the deck with a view of the forested mountain across the canyon, accompanied by hummingbirds.

Most amazingly, the host/owner did all the remodeling himself, and he did a beautiful job. The original owner built it as his home, many years ago, and the current host gutted it and built it out as a lodge with four bedrooms. Mine was probably the original master bedroom. The king bed is also luxuriously thick and firm, and the place is very quiet, so I slept well and I was grateful for that.

Eddie, the host will give you a tour of the room and amenities when you arrive, and when you tell him your plans, he will go out of his way to give you customized info on restaurants and sights.

Ask him about the nearby Nelder Grove's Shadow of the Giants grove of old-growth redwoods, a 20-minute drive away and a moderate 1-mile hike when you get there. Unlike Yosemite, there are no crowds, and if you go early you'll have the place to yourself. The dogwoods were blooming when I went, and it was lovely.

Because it was built as a residence, there is no check-in or info desk, and because it is run by the owner, who lives in the house up the hill, you'll need to arrange check-in, in-person questions, and check-out with him ahead of time. He is incredibly responsive on email and phone messages, with detailed responses.

I showed pictures of my room to friends who rented more expensive places in the area, or stayed at AirBnB homes, and they all wanted to know more about Evergreen Haus. I stayed solo, but it's also perfect for families.

I highly recommend Evergreen Haus and look forward to staying again sometime!

Nice well appointed rooms with everything you would need for a pleasant stay near the Yosemite South gate. Each room opens into the main lodge-style family/living room which gives guests ample opportunity to interact with other each other. Beautiful porch overlooking the meadow and distant mountains. It is very comfortable for enjoying a morning cup of coffee and your breakfast out on the deck. Eddie gave us a tour of the place that covered pretty much anything we needed to know about our stay. It's not a bed and breakfast, but the kitchen is at your disposal for cooking your meals. It is well stocked with non-perishables. We love this because we were able to prepare our meals just like we do at home. It's a convenient location to get into town, and also to get into the park. We found it to be an excellent value.

Highly recommend. We were only here for one night but we got the full tour from the very friendly owner.

By far the most homey place we've stayed in during our many road trips.

The ONLY negative is the bumpy road to get to the lodge from the highway.  Tip: stay for more than one night so you don't get hit with the additional fee.

    Would definitely come back again.

We decided to take a trip up to Yosemite for my birthday. Neither of us had been there before so we weren't sure about picking a place to stay. All of the hotels in the area are really expensive and kind of dumpy. We stumbled upon Evergreen Haus and man were we glad we did. Eddie the owner has done an amazing job with this property. You can tell he takes pride in his work and keeps the place well maintained. We stayed in the Sequoia room which is the largest. It has its own patio and a huge double headed shower. The bed was very comfortable and hard to crawl out of on our last day. Eddie also provided us with tons of information about the area. He sent us to a lesser known grove of giant sequoias and we nearly had the place to ourselves.

Note this is not a bed and breakfast. Evergreen Haus is more of a lodge. You have your own room and bathroom but there is a common living room and kitchen area that guests can use to make their own meals or watch movies. We actually grilled two of the nights we were there.

I would recommend this place to everyone. It is a really nice place to come back to after a long day of hiking and exploring.

Outstanding place to stay; exceeded every expectation! The rooms have all been refurbished and are very clean. The common room is very comfy and the kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, plates and utensils  to cook your own food if you want.  The town of Oakhurst is nearby and has great dining options and we highly recommend the South Gate Brewing company. Eddie, the proprietor is very friendly and is willing to share his knowledge of Yosemite and the Sierra National Forest. The drive to the Yosemite floor is 75 minutes and very beautiful. We will be back!

Im a returning customer to Evergreen and i have to say that this is TRULY as good as it gets. You get a full luxurious cabin experience for less of the price of a hotel room... I dont even know where to start... I always choose the SEQUOIA ROOM... which will blow your mind: superb decoration, every detail is beautiful, the bathroom is huge with a double shower and comes equipped with anything you could ask for... the bed is amazing and besides you have a sofa bed and and extra bed for more people. You like to watch cable in bed? yeah... every room comes with Satellite TV and flat screens.

Like if this wasn't enough.. you have free wifi of course, a F1 grill if you like bbq'ing and a HUGE deck if you want to just sit down and stare at the beauty of the pine populated mountains. Super quiet place, clear skies... just 15 mins away from the entrance of Yosemite park.

I think its a must to give this place a chance. Besides, Eddie the owner and host, its the most humble and most glowing soul you will ever meet, this guy puts his life and soul in this place and the whole energy of the cabin irradiates positivity and peace. He cares about making the experience for every single guest unique and special.

You will NOT regret staying here....actually...like it happened to me... you will keep coming back and whenever you think of Yosemite you will think of Evergreen.

This lodge is gorgeous. The owner renovated it and it is so fancy and beautiful. From the beautiful bed linens and furniture the the patio and view it really is picturesque. Such good ambiance for a getaway.

The owner is very nice and accommodating. He will direct you to trails you want to go to and give you good maps of the sierras and Yosemite. He stocks the lodge with plenty of food and you can help yourself.

Very reasonable price for the value. I can't stress enough how nice of a lodge it is.

I can't believe I waited this long to review Evergreen Haus but I was telling someone about it the other day and decided that I needed to post a review here on Yelp.

As with other reviewers, I believe this is a great hidden gem to use as your launching pad to exploring Yosemite. It is a beautiful property and the owner, Eddie, is a phenomenal host.

Along with all of the great things already said about the place, I want to add a story about something Eddie did that I am forever grateful: I came with my mom who is 65 and didn't have much of a plan for exploring Yosemite with her. I'm used to running around on difficult hikes in Yosemite and was just planning on trying to ease my mom into those but after talking with Eddie, he gave us a brilliant one-day plan to explore Yosemite without too much difficult hiking. He really took the time to figure out what we wanted to see/do and customize a plan for us - giving us maps and resources to make it super easy. I'm so grateful that Eddie helped us plan our one day whirl-wind tour of Yosemite. My mom loved it and we got to see so much of the park while avoiding really difficult hikes.

I would recommend this place for a romantic getaway for a significant other that doesn't want to rough it camping or for a situation like mine with my mom. Cozy, comfortable, and a great host!

Thank you Eddie! I'll be back soon!

We only stayed one night but if we are back in the area we will stay here again and even longer. Absolutely a fantastic place!! We loved our stay here. Everything is new, clean, spacious. I have no complaints and was very pleased with our visit. Everything  we needed was here. Out of the way enough to be peaceful but close enough to town to get to the store in a quick minute.

Our stay at the Evergreen Haus we very enjoyable.  The owner "Eddie" was an unexpected bonus.  We have read good reviews and they were spot on.  Eddie has extensive knowledge of the Yosemite park, hiking trails so you are able to make the most of your visit to the area.  His guidance saved us hours of time each day we visited the park and we were able to see things that without his knowledge would have missed if we stayed at a hotel.  The stay was completely relaxing and enjoyable.  We was also able to spend some extended relaxation time on the beautiful deck and inside the awesome lodge.  The rooms were clean and comfortable.

We met the owner, Eddie, by phone before heading to Oakhurst/Yosemite from L.A. Sadly for us they had no vacancies, but after a great conversation we wanted to meet him in person and see the property. So glad we did.

He has just opened this brand new B&B. The property is just beautiful. Rustic, woodsy, very Yosemite-esq. He basically rebuilt an old historic property utilizing much of the original wood, modernizing the inside while keeping the old-timey feel. Beautiful rooms and bathrooms with modern conveniences. The "Great Room" is exactly that-- a huge, stunning room with 2-story fireplace, beautiful wood floors, French doors all around opening onto a huge, covered, panoramic wood deck with comfortable seating, and a nice new kitchen for the guest's use.

The current two rooms are good-size and each has private French doors that open onto a patio (or private patio in the case of the Sequoia Room.) He is currently adding two more rooms for a total of four, hoping to be open for Memorial Day 2013.

It is up on a quiet hillside, surrounded by trees and greenery, just five minutes outside Oakhurst toward Yosemite. They do not serve breakfast but they do offer all sorts of pre-packaged food (waffles, oatmeal, cereals, Pop Tarts, juice, etc.) and use of the new kitchen and all its modern appliances. His room rates are very fair, and Eddie is a great family man, looking to make this a good experience for everyone who stays there. We like him a lot.

I suspect Evergreen Haus will be filled to capacity as much as he wants it to be once word gets out! So reserve soon!

Eddie thoughtfully took every amenity he and his family would have wanted while traveling and provided it to their customers. Every nook and cranny are a testament to their dedication to the satisfaction of their guests. Thank you for creating a home-away-from-home personalized experience at a very reasonable rate. We appreciate you!

Another described this as a lodge and it is a fitting description.  The owner is clear on the website that breakfast is not served, but there is a communal kitchen and living room and dry goods stocked in the cabinet.  The lodge itself is beautiful, with a mix of lovingly restored wood and modern amenities.  This would be an awesome place to hold a family or friend reunion as each room has the privacy of it's own bath and mini fridge while everyone could then gather, cook together, and share time in the communal area.  I would think that during the snowy season one should have 4WD as it's a pretty steep ascent to the lodge.  A lovely place with very reasonable pricing.

We were looking for a location outside Yosemite to use as a base for our vacation. Came across Evergreen Haus, and we are so glad we took a chance.
The owners have paid great attention to detail in their top-down remodel of this beautiful cabin. Likewise to the individual care they give their guests. The cabin is well suited if you want to self-cater your stay, with a large Vonn's supermarket in town, and Oakhurst is close enough that you can drive in for meals if you like that option.
Eddie (the owner) is a great source of information and tips about the area and was very helpful in helping us plan our day trips.
All in all, a great vacation in a beautiful location with comfortable lodgings. Who could ask for more?

Eddie and Steph, the owners of this lodge, are extremely friendly and personable. They really strived above and beyond to make our short stay a wonderful experience. It's a bit of an understatement to say that the place is clean and well supplied. Our room had its own bathroom and there was a common kitchen that had plates and silverware as well as a pantry and fridge filled with complimentary food (pancake mix, pop tarts, granola bars, coffee, tea etc). Toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, bodywash, q-tips, and soap were all provided. We were shown where the extras were in case we needed more. The bedroom was equipped with extra blankets, pillows and both an extra twin mattress and rollaway bed. The place is about a 40-50 min drive from yosemite and is relatively easy to find. I would definitely consider lodging here again.
