Elegant Cuts

Came here for a bang trim and was extremely disappointed with the result. I've had side bang trims in LA at high-end salons, so I have a general idea of what side bang trims are supposed to look like.

I was under the impression that the person who cut my side bangs at Elegant Cuts didn't really know what she was doing, as my side bangs came out messed up and not like the photo I showed her. The only reason I came to this salon was bc the location was close, but I've learned my lesson. Would not come back again.

I called the owner before writing this review. I told them that I would write the amount I was charged and put before and after pictures up. They offered to give me product or services to make it right but changed their minds when I showed up.

I'm not doing this because I'm mad. It's just money. I'm writing this so people will know what to expect. I work hard for my money and spending 4 hours trusting someone else with how you will look is a BIG deal.

Called Sylvia after a friend failed to get rid of the Orange she had lifted me to. I walked in looking bad! I left looking better... But damaged and very orange. My specific words were... "I don't care about a specific look... I trust your experience, just make me look good and make my hair healthy"

I will let you make your own decision about the salon. But this was my experience.

The cost... $45 for each application of color... $45 lifted me to a light orange color.... $45 of bleach plus $90 because it was a weaved method. (That's $135 for a weave of the bleach alone)

3 customers were given cuts and color while I waited. Doesn't bother me but it's not like she wasnt making money with the time I spent processing. Stylist made me feel attended to. Brought me coffee and water. Very nice people.

The color came out orange with very light bleached weave... Then $45 for the toner.... Which still left me with orange roots and weave. I was given a cut... I asked to be left with healthy hair no matter the length. I just wanted all the dead ends to be gone.

Got home and couldn't run my fingers an inch without feeling like I was in straw. When I brushed my hair the following morning. Tons of little hairs were flying in the air from breaking off of my ends. So ugly! Even with perfect color dead ends like this would make you rage if you realized you paid $225 for it! But the color wasn't perfect.... Not even close. I left the color and length up to her and she picked this.

Side note:
Was told I should buy product while I was there. In fact both Sylvia and her assistant encouraged it the whole time. So when I was done I picked the least expensive of their suggestions and went to the counter.... That's when I found out that my new hairstyle. Orangey with light highlights and split ends would cost me $225. I told them I couldn't afford the product. I still tipped because I wanted to see how it looked the next day. Since you never know.

I feel like I need to cut 3 inches off and should just get a dark brown box dye for $10. Make your own choice.

I didnt want to write this without letting the salon know my feelings. She offered to tint me but when I said I was scared to add more product to my damaged hair she said she would give me product to make up for it. Got there an hour later and she didn't want to give me anything. I shook her hand and now I warning you.

Do what you want... If $225 isn't a lot of money to you, then cool. Just know I called and let them know how I felt about my personal result and they don't care.

Johnny did an amazing job giving me the haircut I wanted. I have curly hair and wanted layers. He did exactly what I wanted which no other hairstylist has accomplish. I've never had a hair cut as detail as this one. He really took the time to make sure how short I wanted it and also let me really look at my hair to make sure I liked it. He works magic with the , and was very comfortable with them which I haven't felt from a hairstylist in a while. The best cut Ive had in my life, and he also flat iron my hair to make sure if was even
if I ever straightened my hair. Finally found the right person to trust with my hair!

I took to Yelp to find a new hairstylist and I am so happy I trusted it!

I had to cancel the first appointment I made because of a conflict in my schedule and she was completely cool about it and booked me for the next day.

Sylivia and her neice (I can't remember her name) did my hair today. I got a brazilian blow out and a hair cut plus shampoo and a masq for a GREAT price. Really couldn't be beat and my hair looks AMAZING! No more frizz and it brightened up my color!

They are so nice and funny! Next time I need my hair done I won't hesitate to call these ladies!

I just moved to the area and have tried everything from the chain hair styling locations to the small local places. And this is the first hair salon that actually gave me the hair cut I wanted. No walking out of the salon telling myself that it doesn't look that bad.

I had Sylvia cut my hair and she is awesome. I walked in at lunch time and she put me in a chair right as I walked in. She works fast, but is super percise. And does so all while carrying on a conversation with you. I went in not really being able to describe what I wanted, but she went to work and gave me the haircut I was looking for. She is good.

As for the price, I thought it was reasonable. No it isn't a $6 barbershop haircut, but you dont walk out of there with something that looks like a $6 haircut. For my haircut it was $20, which included the cut, shampoo and styling. Also at the end she massages your neck and head which is an awesome way to cap off a haircut. I really do not think the price is bad considering she did so much more than just use a pair of clippers to run over my head. She used only scissors to style my hair and only used the clippers to clean up my neck and side burns. After the cut she washed my hair, double checked her work and styled my hair showing me a different style to try.

It was a very clean, well kept salon. And everyone there were very nice and professional. Will definitely be going back.

BEWARE - I went to get my hair colored here and this is not the place to go. The first time I went I showed her a picture and I asked her if she could do it. She said yes, so okay she did her work. When it was finished my hair looked lighter but not like the picture. But okay I paid went home started to put my hair up and looked at the highlights they looked grown out, 2 inches from my scalp very blunt and my hair looked the same the only difference was that it was lighter underneath. So I called her after the weekend, asked her if I can come in to fix it she said yes. Went again I showed her the picture on more time and she said "okay I didn't go as light the first time because I thought you didn't want it that light." She ASSUMED basically. So she put more color in, fixed the grown out looking highlights. And still doesn't look like what I asked. And yes I had to PAY AGAIN. for her wrong assumption of not wanting to go as light and it's not what I even wanted. In total I PAID WAY TO MUCH for the service I got and I shouldn't have to pay again they should stand behind their service. Never going back

Sylvia is amazing!!! She does a great job with my eyebrows. She takes her time and makes sure she gets the job just right.

This is my first time here at Elegant Cuts. I found this salon on Yelp and went with Sylvia because of her great reviews. She is very personable and knowledgable in what she does. She stated she's been doing hair for many many years as still loves it,...it's her passion. She just had knee surgery 3 weeks ago and let me just say, this woman doesn't let it slow her down. Well....I'm waiting under the dryer with my hair colour then getting a new cut. I'll check back when I'm finish and give my final review. So far, so good :)

Just moved back to Ventura from the Bay Area, in need of a new hairstyle. I was so uneasy about trying a new salon that I put it off for over a month! After lots of research on Yelp, I settled on Elegant Cuts. Boy, am I glad I did. Sylvia has over 2 decades of experience -- and it shows. She cuts hair like she loves what she's doing, and she really seems to care about her clients. I couldn't believe how great my hair looked after she cut and styled it. Afterwards, everyone told me they'd never seen my hair look so good. (I'm letting my hair go gray, so having a terrific cut is an absolute MUST.) I'm really grateful to have found a new "home" salon in Ventura County!

Fantastic salon! Sylvia rocked my color and cut. The Brazilian blow out eliminated all of the frizzes I've been fighting for years. Truly a one stop salon, I will never go anywhere else. What are you waiting for?
