Small understated space with great mexican.. Pasilla Relleno was amazing!! Can't wait to go back!

Great burrito place to try on the way to Stanford mall. I was on the road a little hungry for a burrito before stopping by the mall and glad I found it on the way. I ordered a carne asada burrito and ordered some green sauce on the side. The sauce was spicy so I wouldn't pour it on aggressively. They have a great dining area to have breakfast lunch or dinner. The staff is great. Super friendly and very responsive. Overall, I would recommend it. Next time I want to try their breakfast because they have a great menu.

If you want a plate full of rice and beans and underwhelming food, then this is the place for you. Service is not exceptional, not going back.

All their menu items are made from fresh ingredients, generously portioned with homemade goodness!

Homemade tortilla chips, salsa and guacamole are so fresh. The chips are just perfect, not too thick and not greasy.

Chicken Tortilla soup is very good. Their version has all the usual ingredients just made very well, different, healthier than other versions. The broth is clear and flavorful with thinly sliced fresh chicken with veggies and tortilla slices with small amount of cheese.

The Lobster Quesadilla is all about the lobster and not laden with cheese. It's generously portioned, surprisingly different. The quesadilla is garnished with a dollop of guac and sour cream on the side with a few onion rings adorned the entree, which was a welcome surprise!

Lastly, the Crispy Taco is amazing! Your choice of what meat or veggies for the inside. I ordered the carnitas which are more saucy chunks of pork, instead of crispy fried chunks. I definitely will return and I'm really want to try their popular Fish Tacos. Looks amazing!

The Monte Cristo Sandwich, what the heck is going on with this surprising menu item, it's pretty delicious and filling with choice of side.

Super refreshing restaurant, very different from other Mexican restaurants. I ordered to go but the restaurant looks friendly and comfortable with lovely stained glass windows and little old school feels, something I miss from my younger days.

To go packaging is compostable containers and generously portioned; thoughtfully placed items inside the containers. Love thoughtfulness!

Fresh and generous seems to be their theme. Other Yelpers show in their photos adult beverages are really generous, too.

El Cerrito has been in business for decades and I hope the continue to reign! Give them a try if you love authentic, fresh and flavorful Mexican cuisine. They also have great American cuisine entrees, too, with some breakfast items, as well. They are a casual restaurant and very reasonably priced, considering the area, right off Sand Hill Road.

The interior looks like an old diner converted into a Mexican restaurant. Portions are huge. Service is quick. Portions are huge, I highly recommend ordering a couple of items and sharing with friend(s). Chips and salsa are complimentary.

Chicken Pasilla Relleno - 4/5 stars
The filling is not quite uniform so every bite can be different. The chile was in about half the entrée, and the rest was mashed corn. Very interesting textures. I never had anything like this before and it was good.

Enchiladas Rancheras - 4/5 stars
Enchiladas with a twist, added mushrooms! It was good, nothing special but solid enchiladas. Rice and beans were not bad.

Wanna try the best Mexican Food in Menlo Park, you gotta go to @ elcerritomenlopark. Their menu is extensive and delicious! They even serve breakfast, which we can't wait to try one day.

Let's start with the complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were nice and crispy and still warm. The salsa had just the right amount of kick. The fish taco was yummy, and the crispy beef flautas and house fajitas prawns were tasty and delicious! Very generous portion, so you can share.

The Margaritas and piña colada were so refreshing and delicious! Service was prompt and friendly. We'll definitely come back again for the food.

A hidden gem. Be prepared for delicious food, large portions, reasonable prices, and great service. Oh and delicious chips and salsa! We came here after a Stanford football game (about a 10 min drive from campus) and it hit the spot. Got a few vegetarian combination plates and everyone loved their food. We'll be back!

We had a fantastic lunch ... the enchiladas suizas and the special burrito plate with carne asada. Absolutely delicious, and our server) forgot to get his name) was very kind and professional. We'll be back next time we're in Menlo Park.

I came here because of the number of stars on Yelp. I was disappointed. The chips seemed to be cooked twice. They weren't fresh but the salsa was good. I ordered cheese enchiladas, forgot to take a picture before eating it. Overall the food was subpar. I've had better Mexican food. The service was amazing though. The aesthetic here is an old school vibe, which was nice.

- Food: Excellent! Had the crab enchiladas, other family members had the azteca platter (appetizers) and enchilada suiza.....everything was tasty, including the chips and salsa

- Service: Excellent! when we arrived, the staff was extremely welcoming. our server was super polite, friendly, attentive and courteous, he refilled our drinks and kept asking if everything was to our liking......I wish ALL servers at every restaurant were like him!

- Ambiance: Excellent! Cozy, we had a booth, separate from other tables....there was outdoor seating available. Plenty of arm and leg space. Lighting was good, not to bright and not too dim

Highly recommend this place and we will definitely return. Thank you El Cerrito and Staff!!!
