About the Business
Established in 1970. Our store had a humble beginning back in 1970 when Julian Baczynsky opened his little Ukrainian butcher store in the East Village. It was his life-long dream to own a business and have a slice of the American Dream. Our mission from the start has been to bring old-world comfort food to the bustling streets of NYC. We do this by providing fresh cold-cuts, premium cuts of meat, succulent smoked hams, and the best Eastern European products in the city. Our specialty is our smoked sausage (kielbasa), which is prepared fresh everyday and then smoked in our kitchen. We have a passion for serving food and serving the community. Our store is cut from a different cloth; we put our heart and soul into our work. This passion stems from Mr. Baczynsky's story of hard work, perseverance, and love.

Great food at a reasonable price. Went to try the classic ham sandwich after reading about its history in the neighborhood. Got a sandwich, macaroni salad, and a pickle for $13. Less than the cost of a sandwich at a lot of spots in Manhattan.
And the Sandy itself was terrific. Can't wait to go back and try more.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Antonio C.Queens, Queens, NY11099Jun 4, 2024
Went in to get some Ribeye's and they tried to sell me some old steaks. I could tell by the color of the meat and the fact that I eat Ribeye's a lot. I make them myself. Eventually a Senior worker got me some fresh one s after I had to say something. Just my experience.

Bit of history, my aunts lived a few blocks away. Our family has been eating their food since I was a child. They ordered all sorts of items. Absolutely delicious! Now as an adult in my 50's and living in Florida, I still order from them & have it shipped to Florida since you can't get that kind of food down here. Our favorite is the kielbasa. Highly recommend stopping in & trying for yourself!

As a Hungarian, this is the best place to purchase Eastern European meats and products at a great price. Saved Easter for me!

Absolutely amazing food and the fact that they have so many prepared ones on Saturday is a dream
Come true! I can feel my Ukrainian ancestors happily dancing knowing that I've been coming here to have some of thee food ( and some owned or worked in butcher shops too..
It feels like a genuine party there because everyone is so happy to be there and looking forward to enjoying it later at home..
I'm particularly fond of their stuffed cabbage, spelt bread, and meatballs but I have so much more to try! Both the mushroom sauce and the tomatoe sauce are divine!
My neighbor raves about their ham, potatoe pancakes, chicken veggie cutlets and pierogi but said everything is perfection!
My neighbor goes weekly too and she's the one who told me about this incredible gem and now I've spread the word to many others too..
Almost nothing makes me happier to live in downtown NYC, than coming by here. The customers and staff are very sweet and the food can't be beat!
They have pretty much everything under the sun and irs such a feel good experimence to do!
We had a neighbor dinner with our food from here and it was so much fun!! Check it out!!! You won't be disappointedHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jeanette P.Natick, MA020Mar 23, 2024
We have been buying our kielbasa at East Village Market since the early '70s when the shop was on Avenue B. Since moving from NYC, I still place orders for the kielbasa to be sent to our home in MA. One year we actually brought the kielbasa on the plane on our way to NC. There were a few stares but it was worth it.
Continue making the best kielbasa. BTW: both my parents grew up in Poland, so I know of what I speak.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Vladimir L.Matawan, NJ633231Jun 12, 2023Updated review
The selection of the home made processed meat products is just amazing. Just don't wait till the weekend to do your shopping cause the line to be served will be very long.

This store can be a little overwhelming at first but the staff is friendly and will help guide you through it all. This is the go to place for Eastern European delicacies, especially cuts of meat. Their kobanos is legendary with an international following and their hams are the best I've had since visiting Ukraine. No self-respecting Ukrainian would celebrate a holiday without stocking up here first so it can get nuts with a long line around then but most of the time it's very accessible. Be sure to stop by!

My Slovak grandfather lived on E 6th Street between 1st & 2nd Avenue Strong Eastern European presence in the area! As a child I went with my parents here all the time. And their friends would also place orders with my parents. And before Easter we always went there.
