A popular place and located in a shopping center next to a laundrymat and Smart and Final. Large parking lot, but it gets filled quickly if you want to park near the restaurant. There was a line before opening for lunch and fills up quickly. They give you a menu book and order sheet. You can tell the regulars know to order quickly, otherwise service and your order may come out slower, but it was not a problem for our group. The staff is definitely busy and sometimes you can get their attention eventually, but overall service was fine. They brought our water when we requested it and always checked and refilled the teapot. Someone else order for the family, so this is my best recollection of entrees ordered. Pork XLB (8 pieces) A+ juicy and perfect skin and pork flavor and texture. I recommend to get 2 orders...so delicious. Vegetable dumplings B green skin and lots of greens inside, but not a lot of flavor. Pork/shrimp dumpling A good flavor and texture. Black bean fish A+ great flavor and fresh fish and definitely order a rice dish to soak up the sauce. Spam fried rice A fluffy rice with bits of spam, peas and eggs Honey walnut shrimp B+ Crispy shrimp with pecans over lettuce was good. Bean paste noodles A You mix the sauce and noodles together...flavor and noodles were tasty. Piggy buns filled with egg custard A the bun was perfect and the filling tasty, however, at $10. for 3 buns is expensive...but a treat. Overall, the food is good and I would recommend this place....though it felt hectic for me bc the food came out fast one after the other. It would be nice to have it paced so I could enjoy each entree. I understand they want people in and people out quickly as there is always people waiting for a table. With this being said I will come back for their XLB and try other entrees.
Don't let the fact that this place is in a strip mall fool you! This is by far my favorite dumpling house in the South Bay. There is always a line and for good reason. Recently I have been trying to be a pescatarian. There are so many seafood options here! Which is so nice because other dumpling spots usually have pork in most shrimp dishes. They always start you off with a pot of hot tea and some spicy veggies with peanuts. It's so refreshing and just the right amount of heat and satiates you until you're plates arrive. Though they are always busy their service is prompt and they don't keep you waiting long for food which is really nice and makes the wait time seem even more worthwhile. I love to order their Shrimp Toast, Shrimp Chow Mein, Fish Dumplings and Salt and Pepper Shrimp. The Shrimp Toast is by far my favorite and I refuse to share my order when dining with my friends.
Definitely a great choice over Din Tai Fung.. quality and food is on par to their standard or perhaps even better. Guess what... THERE IS ACTUALLY SOUP IN THESE DUMPLINGS? I M SHOCKED. I definitely recommend coming here for the pork xiao long baos and all little appetizer dishes that they have to offer. The sliced garlic pork, the spicy shredded tripe, and the sliced beef tendons in chili sauce are all great. If you are vegetarian, the soy noodle salad, sliced potato with spicy sauce, seaweed/bean curd salad and the cucumber salad are all my favorites. They recently remodeled the restaurant so it looks nicer than how it use to be. In addition, they also have a yelp wait list now which is a great help since this place can have a pretty long line.
Din Ding Dumpling House was delightful to dine at. It gets busy and there is a Yelp check-in waitlist. However, I was surprised that it didn't take very long to get seated on a Saturday evening. It's pretty spacious inside with a lot of tables, and the food comes out pretty quickly. You check things off on a menu and they'll bring it out to you. I tried the sautéed spinach greens which were good. They were hot, fresh, and fragrant from the garlic. I always get a green dish to balance out some of the heavier dishes. The pork xlb here are far bigger than the ones at Din Tai Fung and certainly cheaper as well. However, I found that the skin wrapping is thicker than DTF. Personally, I like a thinner skin. The soup is flavorful and the filling to skin ratio for the size of dumpling is pretty good. If you're trying to get the most bang for your buck, it may be better here than DTF. The egg, pork buns (3 buns) were also pretty hefty. The outside skin was fluffy and the inside had a generous portion fo the filling. These were also pretty delightful, just a bit carb heavy from the outside. The seafood fried rice ended up being one of the dishes I was most in awe of. The portion size was smaller than I normally expect when ordering fried rice, but the flavor was incredible. It didn't look like much presentation wise, but I was surprised by the flavor it had. Each bite wasn't screaming seafood, but it was there. When you took a bite of a scallop, that's when I felt like I was tasting the ocean. I really liked the massage that was throughout the fried rice as well, giving it that subtle-more noticeable seafood taste. The people working here are zooming around, and at times it was difficult to flag someone. However, once they notice you, they get to your request ASAP. Overall, pretty good experience here and I would dine here again.
The dumplings here are no joke. I think they are way better and bigger than those at Din Tai Fung, but whatever they make up in food, they lack in service. I went here on a weekday afternoon and it wasn't busy or anything, but throughout the whole entire meal it seemed like we were there bothering them or something. Like it was a privilege we got to eat there. We had to ask for so many things and the staff seemed irritated to help. I thought the xlb was very good and huge. I prefer these over DTFs. The hand pulled noodles in the braised beef soup was delicious. Let me reiterate that I have no problem with the food, but the idea of going back into that atmosphere keeps me from coming back.
Crazy busy authentic shanghai style eatery serving up all sorts of great eats. Came for the homemade doublings and we were not disappointed. The hot and sour soup could have fed a small country...it was huge! Dumplings were excellent as well. Well done.
True rating: 4.5 Planned to come here right at opening on a Saturday with a friend and even 10 minutes before opening, there was already a small line! Seating was fast but definitely filled up quickly; I was shocked by how busy it got by the time we left! Plan to come early anyways; while there's a parking lot, it shares the lot with a laundromat and a grocery store, so I still parked a few rows away from the restaurant. Make sure to glance at the menu before coming; I told my friend I was in the mood for dim sum, but I was thinking of the Chinese-cart dim sum. Good thing I like XLBs, too! We ended up ordering four dishes for two of us, which was filling and left us with a little to take home, as well. A little on the pricier side, but the quality was good. Pork and crab XLB was definitely the star - size was good and quality was great. Shrimp/pork and beef/chive dumplings were both good, though the beef one was slightly dry. Also wanted to try the fresh noodles and got the tomato and egg noodles (my friend said that it's a typical Taiwanese dish!) It was good, a little on the sweeter side, but the noodles were excellent. Service was a little slow; food came out at the right pace, but once we actually finished eating, it took a while to flag down a waiter to actually pay (slightly ironic because while we were still eating and chatting, they kept coming back to see if we had finished because there was such a big crowd for lunch!) Overall, seems authentic and consistent, which is all I can ask for with dumplings. Will definitely be back for more noods and XLB!
Very busy during lunchtime but the food is always great here. The service has improved in my opinion, and the prices are not too bad considering other competition in the area. It was my first time trying the custard buns, and they were delicious! They have a lot of custard filling and the decorations on the buns are a cute additive. They ran out of the beef and onion shiu mai but replaced it with the dumpling equivalents, which was a nice gesture.
We came here on a Thursday evening around 5:45pm as a party of 8-10 people and only had to wait a few minutes before getting seated! They also have the yelp waitlist which is super helpful to estimate how long the wait will be! We were seated all the way to the back. At first, it was comfy but as it got more crowded, it felt really stuffy and hot. All the fans were located towards the front and we only felt breezes here and there. At first, the service was very friendly and welcoming! Our server was chippy and loud. He seemed determined to help. Since we were a bigger group and it was our first time here, it took some time to figure out what we wanted. We were told later that you had to order it through the paper and pencil. Also, we had to ask for multiple things like more waters, bowls for our soup, etc. We also asked for a group picture and our server said no, and he avoided us later on while another server helped. I think our patience was just wearing thin. As our food came out, it was very exciting because the portions are big! We ate family style so we each got to try multiple dishes. The garlic spinach was really good. The baos were also quite tasty. The vegetable bao actually had a lot of flavor for what it was! They were so bouncy and fluffy with filling spilling out. My favorite was the pork and shrimp steamed dumpling! It was juicy and meaty! The xiaolongbao soup dumplings were just okay. I've had better. Something about the meat filling and texture tasted funny.. they were quite big as well so lots of soup! Wait until they cool down before picking one up or else they will break! The egg corn soup also lacked a little flavor. Try the Thai tea though...it's not too sweet like other places! :) Overall, this place is pretty good. Plenty of parking and it looked poppin. I would come back to try other dishes.
Ok seriously legit. Came in just before closing and happy I made it in. Pork XLB was delicious and pork and shrimp pot stickers was yummy Located in a strip mall near Tak Fudenna memorial stadium so if you ever attend. JFK titan game the. Make a point to come here $21 for two plates but so worth it!
I absolutely love this place! The service was fast, the food came out in good moderation, the food was delicious. Came to lunch with my girl friends and ate SO much food! I've gone back 2 other times in the past 2 weeks hahah it's mos def a must try! Their piggy buns are so good! We keep over ordering, next time for sure I will try the red bean dessert!
"Wanna share a table?", the waiter asked. "Sure", whatever it takes to move up that waitlist. The next set of customers were asked and replied the same. So we ended up in a large, round table and the fella next to me drew the unfortunate lot of the day. Biting into my XLB, I sent its juices squirting up onto his arm, and on the table - his fancy designer wallet and what seemingly was an immaculately maintained iPhone. I've never felt so embarassed in my life and thought my love and aptitude of eating volumes of them little suckers would have spared me of such a rookie move. Fortunately, he was in a bliss as I was enjoying the XLBs here at Din Ding. Our order was for a basket of XLBs, Zhajiang Noodle, and some string beans. It was clear the XLBs were the main star of this place. It was ordered on every table. This place has shot up to the top of my list for XLBs due to their fluffiness, juiciness (absolutely confirmed!), and wrapper texture. I've never had such a fluffy pork filling. I've only had them almost in meatball form, but the filling here I find is much looser and gives it that light texture. Did I mention the XLBs here are great? I didn't squirt any juices on the people sitting to the right of us, so we struck up a friendly conversation and found out they were regular customers. They swear by the fish dumplings here and says there is nothing like it in the Bay Area. She also highly recommended the green bean jelly noodle salad and for dessert, the deep fried rice cake filled with sweet red bean paste. Will be sure to try them the next time. If we happen to be sitting down at the same shared table, no offense if you asked to be moved.
Better than DTF for price and no wait! XLB are getting close in quality it is hard to charge expensive price. Ding ding has nice decoration and good service and will not charge ridiculous prices like DTF. We have so many options in menu and you can just enjoy and have a great meal! We ordered 1. Shrimp and melon XLB 5/5 2. Chicken and corn Siu Mai 4/5 3. Fish dumplings 5/5 4. Spicy and sour noodles with pork 3/5 Love this place! Will come again. Parking is easy and no wait if you come before 7:30pm on weekdays.
I'm obsessed with dumplings, so I'm always on the hunt for the best dumpling restaurants. This is definitely one of the better dumpling spots in east bay, and is finally one that met my expectations! We weren't too hungry, but still wanted to try it out: - Cucumber Salad ($6.95) 10/10. You can't really make this wrong. This was a good appetizer. - Pork Xiaolong Bao ($8.95 for 8 pieces) This was our favorite. It was a good sized dumpling (bigger than most places) and filled with so much soup! It seemed pricey, but for 8 pieces, this was soo worth it. - Pork and Crab Xiaolong Bao ($13.95 for 8 pieces) Compared to the pork xiaolong Bao, this was drier. I definitely liked the pork a lot more. Overall, this place was great! I'll be back again to try more items on the menu.
BINGS AND DIN DING COMPARISON. XLB- I understand that there should be at least eighteen folds on every dumpling for a true XLB, but the tops of these piping hot dumplings were hard. The casing was very tough and the meat was DRY. How can that be when it's surrounded by soup? It was over cooked in its own broth like the white meat from a dry turkey on thanksgiving. Bings casing held the soup without breaking down and the meat and broth are flavorful. Wonton in chili oil- The casing for this dumpling is also wrong. The wrapper is supposed to cling to the meat in wontons and be soft when served. However it was like the wonton was filled with air and therefore made the casing hard. The chili oil lacked salt and heat. I could have just been food colored oil. The meat was also flavorless. Bings wonton in chili oil is soft and veryyyy fresh. It has a good bite to it and the oil is tasty. (No extra added chili needed) Spicy Cumin noodle- I have tasted better zhajangmein at other places and Din dings is almost not asian with the amount of cumin they use. It has no asian flavoring or umami flavor. It just tastes like cumin oil. Bings noodles are always nicely hand pulled and cooked aldente but their xhajangmien flavoring could be better. Still worth the try though.
The food here is great, but their service can be improved. There's usually a long wait here, especially on weekends, but thank goodness they have the yelp online waitlist. -1 star for rushing me out of their restaurant. They came and gave me the bill when I was still waiting for a dish to come out ?! And they also started clearing our plates when I STILL HAD FOOD on my plate. I was tryna finish that but now that you've stacked it under someone else's dirty plate, no thank you. -1 star for their waitlist. I saw my name on the top of the list yet watched as they called out other same number parties to be seated so that kinda sucked. Food itself is good, I prefer this place over din tai Fung in terms of food. Pork xlb: 4/5 really juicy and sweet! Crab and pork xlb: 5/5 this crab one has an additional layer of flavor, I'd recommend this over the just pork one Spicy wonton: 5/5 wasn't actually spicy at all so people who can't eat spicy food don't be scared away! This is sweet and savory, one of my favorite dishes Beijing smoked pork: 5/5 wow wasn't expecting this to be as good as it was 3 flavor beef and seafood soup: 4/5, again this wasnt spicy at all even though the color is bright red so don't be afraid to try this! It's sweet and a little sour tasting Pork dumpling: 4/5 I really liked the texture of the dumpling skin and there was a lot of veggies inside which gave it a nice texture I'd definitely come again to try more dishes, I just hope their service improves.
I highly recommend joining the waitlist through Yelp before heading over! I was quite surprised on how clean/somewhat modern the decor was inside the restaurant. The wait seem pretty long but we ended up being able to skip ahead because they asked if we were willing to share a table with another party. They are not your traditional dim sum place where they have the little carts that is filled with dim sum goodies instead, they have a pamphlet for you to mark the items you would like. Not going to lie, it is so EASY to get carry away when ordering dim sum but at least they give you to go boxes. To start, I tried the Xiao Long Bao and oh my gosh, it was delicious. It is better than the ones at Din Tai Fung in Valley Fair. The fillings was seasoned perfectly and the broth was not too salty. The one thing I didn't like was that the actual dumpling paper/wrap was a little too thick. The other item I tried was the Pumpkin Pork and Shrimp Shao Mai. Wow, that one is my favorite. It was pretty large compared to other restaurants I have been too. I couldn't really taste the pumpkin until maybe the 3rd or 4th one. I love the filling, it was so flavorful. I also got the Piggy Buns. They are so cute!!
my 7th visit here within the last 12 months. having lunch with my big bro. we ordered: 1. hot and sour soup 2. loofah and shrimp dumplings 3. half smoked chicken 4. pot sticker. review: 1. hot and sour soup: one of the better one offered around town. nice peppery and enough sourness (can add available vinegar and pepper from the table condiments for those who enjoy more heat and sourness in their soup). we enjoyed the soup. 2. loofah and shrimp dumplings. this serving was the best tasting of my 7 visits here. the shrimp chunks were fresh, crunchy and the loofah were tasty as well. i personally like this dumplings more than the original pork filling ones. 3. half smoked/grilled chicken. trying new item we have not had before. quite tasty and layers of flavors. personally wishing for the outside to be slightly more charred to get more of the crunchy burnt skins. worth ordering in the future when feel like eating chicken. 4. pot stickers ordered extra crispy. came out reasonably crispy. not as crispy as previous visits. good dipping sauce came with this. for the foods today, the ratings overall is 4.29 stars. what was a nice lunch for us was ruined on the last few minutes of our visit. 2 of the nice male staffs had cleared up most of our table and the bill was brought back to the cashier to charge my cc. while waiting for the cc charges, a female server came over and asked in mandarin if she can clear out the table. my big bro said yes. i was about to interject and told her: all but my tea, she harshly already grabbed everything already before i had the chance to say i am finishing my hot tea. when i told her, she rudely said: there is a line waiting to be seated for lunch! wtf? mother fucker. if we were properly approached and asked if the bill has come or if have we paid? can we finish up so we can seat the next waiting customer, i would have no problem with that. i had been a server for years and had over 30 years or hospitality experiences under my belt. she literally kick us out of our table before we even being presented with our cc imprint to sign. i raised my voice and asked her in english: we have not even get our final cc bill yet! she abruptly left us and mumble: will get the bill for us. omfg. we were not begging for food nor she was paying for our meal. to be treated as such even at lunch rush is not called for and clearly lack of care and training from the owner and management. as i said. if we were approached differently, with smile or proper questions, i would be more than happy to vacate our table and goto the cashier to wait for my cc charge. she literally throw my tea cup back to the table. luckily i was not outrage enough to just pour the hot tea onto her. wtf. clearly no one in the management or owner care about how the customers are being treated if we as a paying repeat customers being treated this way. i subtracted $1.50 from the total tip else i would have left no tip this time, but to be fair, the other 3 servers who help us along the way were professional and courteous to us during the whole lunch. absolutely utterly ruined my happy go lucky mode into a raging monster mode. what started as great lunch visit was utterly ruined by simple lack of courtesy and service by 1 overzealous server. i understand if we had paid completely and lounged around drinking tea during lunch rush is not being considerate nor polite to others who are waiting. we were not. this could easily found out by asking the right questions and so many others polite way of getting us to leave our table asap. i asked to speak to the manager, but no one seemed to care either. the cashier asked the lady in mandarin why i was very upset: the rude server told the cashier: i was upset because she took my tea away. she did apologize a few times and wished me of having a good day. like how? you just fucking completely ruined the rest of my day. for this incident, what would have been an overall 4 stars rating is being reduced to -1 star. since no 0 star, they received 1 star rating from me. absolutely utterly disappointed and disgusted with the final service.
The XLB are probably among the best, if not the best, that I've had in the bay area. They are large, thin skinned, and soupy. Which is basically what one wants in an XLB. The fish dumplings and stir fried peashoots are also noticeably good. But sadly the zhajiang mian doesn't come close to keeping up. The noodles are too soft and the sauce doesn't punch you in the mouth like it should. So the answer here is probably less noodles, more dumplings.
Very nice and clean restaurant with super friendly stuff. This restaurant is right next to my office so we came here all the time. Today our waiter is Dabing who is super friendly and high energy. We came in around 7pm. Got seated in 10 min. Dabing upsell for the spicy shrimp toast. Got our food on table super quick. Loved his high energy and exuberant personality. Highly recommend
