My husband took me here because I wanted pancakes. Never heard of this place before. We've been here about 5 times and I am definitely a fan.
Portions are huge and price is reasonable. There are smaller portions, which I have ordered after my first experience.
My family has tried their pancake breakfast, hamburgers with fries, and their kids breakfast (pancakes, egg, and bacon). I have never seen my 5 year old son finish his breakfast plate.
Staff is friendly as well.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 6, 2014
Classic American in all its indulgent goodness!
They were packed and understaffed, and I had very low expectations when I arrived. But I was very pleasantly surprised.
They were pretty quick given the conditions. And very friendly. Our server was apologetic for not being as attentive and gave us a free dessert of a TON of fried oreos, Reese's cups, and Snickers.
Is the food healthy? Gosh no.
But they're fast, friendly, fresh and very tasty.
Downside is this is not a good place for vegetarian, or any modern diets in general. Come in here only if you want to eat like a kid with no care about your body!

This place is A-OK in my book!
We've been here four times because it is literally around the corner from our house. I've had the Digger's Special twice. This puppy is a plate full of eggs, onions, peppers and bacon covered with cheese and a side of hash browns. It's good and it's filling. It's not gourmet, but it hits the spot and it's consistent.
I had the famous breakfast sandwich once with sausage. The sausage didn't quite fill the sandwich end to end. Still it was tasty and again... filling! Let's just say you're not likely to leave Digger's Diner hungry.
Last visit I had the breakfast burrito. Eggs, hash browns, bacon, cheese and... uh oh, jalapeño peppers (I must have missed this on the menu) wrapped in a tortilla. Once I removed the jalapeños (they were HOT and there were a LOT), the meal was tasty. I felt it would have benefitted from some salsa, sour cream, avocado or all three.
I like this place and I'm glad it's close. When we're home on the weekend and don't feel like cooking breakfast, this place hits the spot.
The staff are very friendly even when they are very busy, and they are on the weekends. This place isn't small, but if you don't arrive first thing on a weekend, you may have to wait a couple minutes. I'd say it's worth it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - May 6, 2014
Went here on the fly looking for a cheap or decent but good place to go. I don't remember it being here? This place is right across of the Hayward court house. They have there own parking and the place is big enough for a large groups.
The ladies staff was very welcoming and very attentive to us but then again it was not crowded. They serve a large selection of shakes, burgers, desserts and breakfast food. The kids meals are $3.99 and all burgers under $5-$8. Pretty good prices.
Our family had the BLT, jalapeño, California, and cheeseburgers. When ordering fries, it's a large portion so don't order too much. They had garlic and Cajun fries. The Cajun is more like a thai season taste but can be salty. The Garlic fries are better. The burgers are really large that you would need to cut in half or squash it flat! They have Deep Fried Oreo's, snickers, kit Kat, Twix or peanut butter cup!! My fave is still Oreo's and I would recommend to eat it with vanilla soft serve or your shake as it can be too much sweet.
I will have to try this place for breakfast! I will definitely come back again!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 29, 2014
Out of all the hospitality from a diner, I'd say this is the place.
I walked in today with my friend and because he suggested it. We've been meaning to try this place because it's so popular. It's a diner kind of out of no where surrounded by lots of government stations i.e police, school district head quarters etc.
We walked in and quickly was greeted and seated (from across the diner) Classy. not many diner can do that. We sat at a booth and quickly greeted again with the same person who told us to sit in the booth area and were given menus. She had a really big smile and greeted us very enthusiastically.
We took some time to look over the menus. They are quite famous for their over sized burgers and their pancakes(which they kind of stop serving after 11am). The waitress came back around twice and asked us if we were. Nope we weren't and i said this is our first time here. She then put here little receipt book and pen away and said "really? ok let me go threw the menu with you." And boy did she. We were very grateful to here.
We ended up ordering a cali burger with guacamole, bacon and swiss cheese and a bbq bacon burger. all burger are 1/3 patty comes with mayo, mustard, iceberg lettuce, few slices of tomato, onions and lightly grilled buns. We also ordered the ball park fries which were garlic and parsley tossed. They were delicious.
They even have a food challenge: finish their signature burger which has two 1/3 patties with jalapenos, pepper jack cheese, a third bun(texas toast they call it) and with toppings, a cup of fruit, fried oreos and an appetizer of your choice in under 30 min it's free. (or else it'll come out to be about 30$)
Burgers are definitely filling. Fries enough to share with a group of four. Food coma ending.
Price good. Food Good. and parking lot for the boot.
Special Thank you to the staff that made it so much more enjoyable. The nicest and up-beat staff there is. It's thanks to them i will definitely come back with a bigger crowd next time.

Happened to stumble here when my brothers, my mom and I picked up my little brother from UC Berkeley. We were starving, so I went on Yelp and searched Denny's or maybe it was IHop, and Digger's Diner showed up. The reviews were good so we all decided to stop by. This place looked small from the outside, but once you walk in it is actually spacious. We sat down right away and ordered our food. Everything here was soooo inexpensive and the portions aren't bad either.
They had fries everything, meaning Chili Cheese, garlic, etc! My brothers decided to get their garlic fries which was yummy! The ambiance is also pretty different, which I liked!
I'd stop by here again if I were to drop or pick up my little brother. :)

Yes, another breakfast adventure with my mom on well deserved day off from work. This place is located right across from the Hayward Police Department / Hayward Courthouse. A friend of mine got me wondering about this place since he told me they had a food challenge. The food challenge is called the "Six Foot Under Challenge". I did not attempt the challenge, however, I ordered a couple of items from the challenge:
- The Crypt
- Ball park fries
The Crypt Burger towers about 7 - 8 inches tall. It is composed of three beef patties, four sizable bacon strips, two fried eggs, cheeses, and basic sauces and veggies put in a burger. The buns were no regular buns. Three Texas toast used to complete this behemoth. It took me about a couple minutes trying to figure out how to eat this burger. When i took a bite of the burger, it was like having brunch all in one sitting. What would have made the burger better for me is if the patties were a little more juicier. And the bacon cooked more crispier. Other than that, the burger was good.
The ballpark fries were made of garlic fries topped with shredded cheese on top. It's been awhile since I've had garlic fries from AT&T Ballpark, so I had to try these bad boys out. The fries were great! The cheese was stringy. I recommend getting them extra crispy if you like them that way. I still love the garlic fries at AT&T Ballpark but, I got to give love to the ones here at Digger's.
My mom ordered the Digger's Special and enjoyed her meal. The service was very friendly. I definitely would come back and try their other menu items. Now if you would excuse me, I have garlic breath.

SERVICE: 5 STARS! LOVED the 2 girls that helped us, they were fast, helped explain the menu and their menu favorites (without being asked) and just generally super nice! :D
I had a yummy basic cheeseburger and cheese fries...also ventured to share the depe fried Kit Kat bar lol!
Cheese fries - greasy awesomeness! Fries were crispy and hot. tTons of cheese.
Burger - meat was tasty - tasted fresh. I ordered mine on texas toast, expected a garlicy cheesy bun but no: its basically toasted, thick DRY white bread with no real flavor (skippin it next time!)
Deep fried Kit Kat bar - what can I say? It was a freakin' deep fried kit kat bar! I could only manage a few bites, but it was made well and it was sinfully good.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 546402280May 13, 2013
I am so bummed out Digger's Diner is so far from San Jose. I have been here twice with my mom, she lives around Digger's Diner. I love the food, service, and how cheap the prices are. Even though the prices are really cheap you get a lot of food!!!
Recently my mom and I came here for Mother's Day. We knew that if we went to Ihop it would be extra crowded. I was crossing my fingers hoping that Digger's wouldn't be crowded. It wasn't crowded! We just had to wait for about 5 minutes for the girls to clean a table for my mom and I. After we got seated we decided what we wanted to eat my mom got the Digger's full breakfast (Bacon) and she also got a side of two sausage patties. I got the French Toast breakfast with 1 sausage patty. I was going to get pancakes, but for some reason they do not serve pancakes after 11pm. BOO. My mom and I also got an order of Onion Rings, the last time we were here the Onion Rings were so crunchy and good.
Digger's Full Breakfast (Bacon) with 2 sausage patties on the side.
This meal comes with 3 eggs any style and 2 pieces of bread, your choice of what kind of bread. There was so much food on my mom's plate, I was amaze she ordered more sausage, but mommy gets whatever she wants on Mother's Day. She really enjoyed all her food even though she didn't eat all of it she took it to go. It was to much food anyways!!! GOOD GOOD GOOD.
French Toast Breakfast with 1 sausage patty.
I liked my French Toast even though I was a little bummed out that I did not get to get pancakes. The French Toast was still pretty good though, if my tummy could eat all 4 pieces I probably would, but I could only finish 3 and that was pushing it.
Onion Rings!!! The Onion Rings here are amazing YOU HAVE TO GET IT!!! If you come here get the onion rings!!! They're so sweet and crunchy. I don't like onions on my burger or anywhere else. I only like eating Onion when they're Onion Rings, if that makes any sense. These Onion Rings are so good you have to try them!!!
For those 3 plates I only had to pay $24 it was so cheap and so good!!!
Service is pretty good here, I have no complaints! The girl who served us was very nice.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
