Hello can you please tell me if the doctors are experienced in treating African Americans for acne? I received steroid injections in the past and they helped. What are the costs here for steroid injections? Thank you so much for your time.
A:

Aaron McCook PA is very unprofessional! When it comes to asking questions about medication or general questions over all about treatments that would work best for me. He did not do anything to help the situation I was having with my skin problem. Over time, my skin problems got worse with countless times going to him with no improvements. Don't waist your time with Aaron McCook PA that doesn't plan on caring or even answering general questions you might have with that being said even going into the office you will see that he doesn't have any patience going to him and now I know why. Topping it off now, I have a scar on my face as well from going here. Please be careful!!!

I'm throughly impressed with this location from the front desk to Dr. Aaron & Louise they couldn't have madd things more smooth. My husband walked in with a contusion under the chin and literally a few short minutes and a cortisone shot later it's already reducing in size. Thank you much we'll definitely be back!!!

I got a letter the mail to pay my Bill, so when calling the number, (800)991-6448, it connects to a phone that is of an old employee who hasn't worked there in 6 months, she said that all of the Doctors bill calls are re routed to her personal number and she has gotten over 100 calls.
Seems like there is an issue between boss and past employee, not sure how to pay my Bill by calling in.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Judy A.Nipomo, CA025Jan 31, 2023
I have been going to Skin and Cancer Institute for over 6 months. A majority of the staff is excellent. Aaron McCook, Maria, Carmen, and Amera along with the other professionals are thorough and attentive.
One of the ladies at the reception desk is however less than friendly. Her name is Kisha. She is rude and makes you feel as though you should go to another clinic. Kisha is not helpful and never smiles and has a serious attitude.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sheila A.Hayward, CA193134334Nov 28, 2022
I can't believe I never left a Yelp review - I left a very thorough one on Google in Feb this yr. I saw Aaron McCook, PA.
He is terrible. I made a complaint with the board due to being misdiagnosed which actually required me to be on 2 different antibiotics for my skin condition he brushed off as atopic dermatitis. Didn't want to order bloodwork bc "your insurance will be like why is a dermatologist ordering that" and didn't want to order an ultrasound bc "i'm just a dermatologist, I don't know how to read a radiology report".
I literally recorded my second visit bc during the first visit he didn't even touch my pustules & he and his MA documented in my medical record wrong.
Unfortunately, the board does not tell us what exactly happens after the complaint but I would not trust Aaron with any medical derm issues. Have been scared to go to another derm since this issue.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 3 - Debbie E.Las Vegas, NV27Apr 14, 2023
Zero stars if it were an option!!
I have been a long time patient of Las Vegas Skin and Cancer Institute. I have even referred friends and family. This will no longer be the case!
Let me start off with a positive. The front desk manager and her staff are phenomenal. The PA Aaron is also awesome!! They are all so sweet and kind.
Now to the the dirty part that feels like a doctor taking advantage of his PPO patients. Starting in the middle of January, the owner, Dr Taheri, implemented a new billing policy forcing PPO patients to meet insurance deductibles ( which in my case is over $3000 a year) before allowing insurance to cover the appointment under the copay ( again, in my case is $60 a visit). What used to cost me $60 in now costing me over $100 every month for a routine visit. The office has been instructed by Dr Taheri to code differently forcing PPO patients to meet their deductibles, which in my opinion is inappropriate on many levels. They also won't tell you that because I have a PPO insurance, it is actually cheaper to be a cash paying patient(don't use insurance). My copay (paid at the time of my appointment) is $60 (with insurance) plus the additional amount that is billed to me at a later date because of coding. The total for the monthly appointment is well I've $100. By switching to cash, my appointment is now $70 and no further billing. I had to figure this out on my own!!!
When I asked about this in the office, I was directed to call billing directly so that, in my opinion, they didn't have to throw the company "under the bus". I called billing and the man I spoke to was rude and insisted that I needed to call my insurance for clarification because, again in my opinion, he didn't want to put the company in a bad light. After spending an hour on the phone speaking to my insurance, who has no vested interest in Las Vegas Skin and Cancer Institute, and doing some of my own research, it was the office that started coding differently, which explained the difference in billing. I called the office again and presented what I had learned from my insurance company. Only then did the staff explained that this was a decision made by Dr. Taheri at the beginning of the year in an attempt to force patients to meet their deductibles. They also don't tell you thatThis was not something they were going to disclose until they realized I had gotten to the bottom of the issue and they felt cornered. They went on to explain that I am not the only patient who have brought this to their attention but there is nothing they can do about it. They said the only recourse I have is to write a review, which I did. They explained that patients have been leaving the office crying because they feel they are being taken advantage of because of this new coding policy. They can no longer afford the services that was covered by their insurance at their last appointment with a simple payment of their deductible.
The medical assistant even expressed that this would be the last appointment she would be seeing me because she is quitting. She disclosed that she will no longer be working for Las Vegas Skin and Cancer Institute because of how she and patients are being treated by Dr. Taheri. This is so disappointing.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Dana C.Las Vegas, NV0107Aug 11, 2022
Carmen gave an amazing microdermabrasion facial! She was so help and really took the time to chat about my specific skin care needs and explaining exactly what she was doing. She even covered plenty of holistic practices I can do at home as well as products that wont break the bank.
Everyone in the office is always so friendly and helpful. Between finally getting put on the right meds by the doctors & Carmen's services my skin has never been better. Can't wait to go back and stick with this routine. So great to have a one stop for medical & esthetician appointments.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dec 22, 2021
New Patients BEWARE!
This medical office did NOT have my best interest or needs in mind.
I had a horrible experience in which I was going to let go and just move on and try to erase from my body and mind. The complete experience in dealing with them was egregious and I need them to come through and make things right.
Physician Assistant Aaron McCook
I have been dealing with Martha V and Maria S. for the last 6 months, wasting time and causing me stress.
I have documented 26 calls to your office along with numerous emails with broken promises.
I was informed that I would receive documentation from your office to correct a billing issue your office created. I was informed by Maria S. months ago that I would be mailed and emailed something to help correct the billing issue.
I never heard back and today I went to email AGAIN to follow up and now both Maria S. and Martha V. have blocked my email. I was always nice and pleasant, I just had to make call after call and wait on hold, and be transferred all over.
This is not a way to treat an ex patient, perhaps they don't want to be bothered. I had a biopsy that is always covered under insurance as confirmed with my medical insurance policy and Quest. This office submitted the bill and got paid for their part but for the billing of labs they submitted the incomplete codes to cover the rest. I spoke with my insurance carrier who stated they cover this test however this Dr. Office did not submit proper documentation codes to cover. Now I am being billed by Quest and call Aetna needs is a letter confirming that the test/biopsy was necessary to make a diagnosis. After 6 months back and forth going throw so much with this office who was denying they could help. They tell me that they will send a letter so that I can file a claim to resolve with my insurance carrier. They never do after waiting 2 more months for nothing. Then in the end they block my email so that I can no longer respond.
The office staff has treated me bad, let me down and wasted my time. To make matters worse, the reason I am not longer an active patient is because Assistant Aaron McCook. Who did my 1st photo therapy session burned my leg, it took well over a month to heal. When I informed Martha she stated what am I asking her to do about it??? Assistant Aaron McCook did follow up months later and I texted photos of the bad burn and was that. At that point I was still waiting for follow up from his staff regarding the neverending billing issue.
This office has caused me a lot of grief and it is crystal clear that they do not care. Their answer is to block email communication from patients when they don't want to be bothered.
Martha V. front desk clerk has not been forthcoming with me and then office Mr Maria S. has openly lied to me.
This office has a MAJOR issue with billing just read the other horrible reviews.
If you have insurance but still want to pay out of pocket or be sent to collections due to their billing errors then this is the place for you. Also if you want to go through stress and be lied to then they have you covered! All they had to do was draw up a letter stating the biopsy was necessary to diagnose my condition. They could not even follow through with what they promised and I have the email to confirm from Maria S. She lied and put me through 6 months of stress and is costing me $800 on a test my insurance would have covered had they billed correctly or just provided the simple letter they promised and agreed to!
I will be filing a complaint, nobody should have to go through this!Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0
