The Art Deco, train-themed dental practice focuses on patient-centered care. The beautiful décor in the office is equally matched with a warm and inviting team of professionals that immediately make patients feel comfortable. Our approach to providing care is to make it easy for patients to be seen and provide prices that make sense to the pocketbook. We are the "one stop" shop for the entire family because we see both adults and children.

Dr. Rachel was the absolute best..I was in so much pain and she helped me quickly. She is kind, efficient and has a wonderfully calming manner. Roxy at the front desk is wonderful too! Hate the dentist usually but not with this team!

I was laid off this summer and signed up for state benefits, so I was in the market for a new dentist. Whenever I need to sign up with a new medical provider, I always try to do my research to make sure I'm getting the best possible care available to me. I went through the list of all of the local dental providers on the Medi-Cal portal, searching for reviews on Yelp and Google. Dental Express Clairemont won by a landslide! Over 250 reviews with a 4.5 star average, while most providers had 0-30 reviews. The ravings are deserved! I didn't have a positive experience with my last dentist, so I was super afraid of this visit, but everyone on the Dental Express team was an all star!
Tiffany was such a sweetheart at the front desk, which was a great relief to me. I always get nervous about using my state benefits, but she made me feel so welcomed. Thanks for treating me like any other patient in the system.
Alfred is a g, such a great dude! I haven't had somebody look at the inside of my mouth for a long time, but he didn't patronize me at all. He said "That's okay-- you're here now!" Growing up with condescending traditional Vietnamese dentists def conditioned me to think that every dental provider is going to verbally attack me once I come in. Alfred is the epitome of excellent bedside manner, a must-have for what can be very scary and uncomfortable moments at the dentist! Thanks so much for being a warm presence in a sterile environment!
Dr. Nasafi was quick, prompt, and knowledgeable. She gave me some options to consider regarding my shifting teeth (due to bruxism). I was worried that my teeth grinding had completely messed up my teeth, but she assured me that I didn't have any damage going on.
Now Chris is the definition of efficiency, all the while being super gentle?? I was super afraid of my cleaning, but Chris is honestly just a technical prodigy. 20/10, best dental cleaning of my life! Chris somehow makes dental cleanings a calming and serene experience
Lastly, I must thank Shannon for closing me out. Since I've been laid off, I've been balling on a budget. Shannon completely understood and didn't even try to upsell me on orthodontics or a mouth guard. As soon as I mentioned I was laid off, she said "oh yeah, then you definitely don't need to think about this right now." Wow, just wow how can the entire Dental Express team make me feel like an actual human? Not just an upsell, or like a disgusting human being with poor dental hygiene
There's a reason why there are SO many Dental Express locations in San Diego. They're doing it RIGHT! Down to the patient experience, and probably even employee experience! The Dental Express Clairemont team seem like the kinda people who are happy at their jobs bc they're actually treated well and respected at the workplace. I don't think I can say that about 90% of medical offices, let alone the general workforce
Thanks all of the wonderful care! You rock!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 15, 2024Updated review

Dr.LeeMurphy and Alfredo are a miracle workers. I went for two root canals, and the only way I can sum this up is by saying Dr.LeeMurphy is of superb professionalism and a true expertise in her work. Pays close detail to patient during the procedure, very attentive, will organized.

Awful experience and extremely rude staff. First and foremost, they scheduled me for an appointment 6 months out because they told me I needed another cleaning at that time. They didn't have anything within that 6 month period and scheduled me 8 months out. Oddly enough; they have a billboard advertising that walk in's are welcome. When I get to my scheduled appointment 8 months out they tell me my insurance won't cover it because they cover once a year cleanings. In my initial appointment they informed me they would reach out to my insurance for approval. However, they did not. When I confronted the staff they were extremely rude and blamed me for not "making sure my insurance had approved the cleaning". Will not be returning to this awful facility.

I visited Dr. Glen Casey Ashmore's Dental Express on August 10, 2023, and it turned into a nightmare. I went in to fix a loose abutment screw on tooth #19, providing all the necessary information, including the implant's name (Frialit). Dr. Ashmore tightened the screw on tooth #30 without warning, claiming he "really tightened it."
Less than 24 hours later, tooth #30 broke, leading to my return on August 17, 2023, for repairs. Dr. Ashmore admitted he wasn't qualified and recommended a specialist. When I requested a written note on the procedures performed, Dr. Ashmore delayed, and his assistant eventually provided it an hour later.
After nearly three weeks of suffering, I sought help from Dr. Mastrovich, who revealed several mistakes in Dr. Ashmore's procedures. Dr. Ashmore should never have tightened the existing screw; he was supposed to use a new one. Additionally, he failed to recognize the implant's name and applied incorrect screw torque ("30 N") instead of the recommended "24 NCM."
His notes even falsely claimed abutments were not indexed, which was entirely incorrect.
My experience was beyond frustrating, and I strongly advise others to steer clear of this dental office. Unprofessional, careless, and a complete waste of time.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jackie N.San Diego, CA0308Dec 7, 2023
I want to write a beautiful review but after not receiving a call as promised and having pain in my front left tooth because they used the drill on the top part of my tooth which chipped my tooth and made a crease and sensitivity during my cleaning i cannot. Now i have a headache for the past days since then. I made an appointment for cleaning and x rays but never thought this would happen. I saw the review average and thought this would be a good new dental spot. The cleaning itself was good until the drill to clean between the teeth was used. I had also requested twice to different techs to not use fluoride. They replied yes and after having my teeth cleaned i noticed the wrapper stating fluoridated toothpaste. To top it off during checkout they did not have a receipt ready with all accurate pricing summary of my visit. My information was incorrect even after submitting it online. When i checked in they had inputted my bday incorrectly a month prior when i scheduled the appointment and they repeatedly stated my insurance was not active until another rep noticed the wrong bday input. Beware make sure they have your insurance and personal info correctly before visit. Although i wouldn't recommend it you might have a chipped tooth at the end.

Great place and people! I highly recommend this place! The ladies at the front are lovely, and the dentist staff is exceptionally kind and caring. They will help you and advise you with any billing whether you have private insurance or are on Medi-cal. They are on your side and very supportive if, for any reason, Medi-cal "denies" any dental work. They will work to see what they can do for you and contact them directly. The best dentists and dental assistants reside here.

No would not recommend. Unfortunately their staff changes often and so do their dentist. They're not honest about what your billing fees or insurance coverages; each time their is an attempt upsell and get money out of you;
Unethical conduct, I was numbed by Dr. Lopp then AFTER! numbing; their financial Coordinator comes in and tries to sell me a $1000 crown that is covered by my insurance and an additional treatment of $200 for a post! This was after I was numbed!!! Indeclined to pay additional fees" my insurance covers crown. I was told after the fact; that they only use full Porcelain crowns and would not honor the type my insurance covered!
From every treatment even when it's covered by your insurance, they claim according to their fees, it's not. I believe they create more dental problems then you need in order to bill you and the insurance. Right now I'm in severe pain! Because I declined to pay them a additional $1200 for a treatment they recommend before preparing your tooth for a crown, I now have a gaping hole! Dr. Loop was eager to extract ! And they refused to even cover it with temp filling because I declined to pay them for an additional treatment plan of $1200 ! I checked with my insurance and was told my crown is covered and cannot understand why they refused to proceed!? Do not trust Jay Lopp, D.D.S.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Tina M.San Diego, CA1542292Feb 3, 2023
Dr Abigail is SUCH a good dentist, and I don't believe I could ask for a better one! All of the staff here is wonderful as well, and it's totally worth the drive for me to come here. She thoroughly explains everything that is being done on my teeth in a very pleasant, easy-to-understand way. She is very thorough and knowledgeable about everything she does- "meticulous"would not be too strong a word. I'm in such good hands here! I cannot recommend them enough, and I am truly a raving fan.

My appointment for a regular cleaning with hygienist was at 3pm, the cleaning didn't start until 4pm (one hour later) and didn't even apologize for the wait. Hygienist was informative, well mannered, but despite all that, she didn't ask if I wanted fluoride, and just put it in my mouth and directly applied the foam on my teeth. Every time I come here, they never give me an option if I want the fluoride or not, usually like to assume I do, and just start directly applying it to me teeth, which is very stressful because there is a large percent of research that is against the use of fluoride.
Another time I went here, (the time before the last), the hygienist did a good job at the cleaning, but gave me a crappy attitude when I denied a X-ray on my teeth, because I recently did an X-ray at another dentist in the last month, and found no use for it because I had no underlying symptoms and they wouldn't perform a wisdom extraction at their office anyway without a bone graft, so I found it useless to do an X-ray when they wouldn't perform the extraction on me anyway without getting $1500 from me. I told her I didn't want to do an X-ray because I already knew I needed my wisdom teeth removed, and she gave me a condescending attitude and responded with "that's not all that it's for, but okay" okay, well, I just had an X-ray at another office and I don't want all the supplies in my mouth and uncomfortable positions, when I already know they're going to tell me I need to remove my wisdom teeth, and I'm not going to pay a ridiculous amount for it, so what's the point of the X-ray when I know I don't have any other problems? Also every time she cleaned she let all the water and toothpaste drip all over my mouth and shirt, I had to ASK her for a napkin and she gave me an attitude like I was the problem when I asked for one. Hilarious.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Dec 29, 2021Previous reviewRelatively clean office. However, BEWARE of receiving any big procedure services from
their business from ANY of their locations aside from a regular cleaning. They will SCAM you. They ABUSE their contracts with insurance companies and limit the services they offer. They refuse to do an extraction or give you dentures EVEN if your insurance covers it without up charging you when you don't even need it.
For instance, they refused to do a wisdom extraction on me EVEN when my insurance COVERS IT 100% no costs, without adding a bone graft. I simply denied a bone graft, after I got several opinions from other dentist. Which in my opinion, is their way of getting money out of you. They would not perform the procedure without the bone graft. Which I don't understand.
Also, they refused to give my partner partial dentures and told him "your insurance doesn't cover it" even though I was told by his insurance 3 DIFFERENT times it does and didn't even offer to call my insurance or send an authorization. I personally had to call them to verify which is very frustrating and annoying
They will tell you they only put some kind of high material denture and are "only contracted" to do so, in order to get around from providing services and get money out of you.
I will be filing a complaint with the California State Dental Board.
