3/6/2020Visiting KY to go on the bourbon trail, and went here on a recommendation from a bartender at the Hell or Highwater speakeasy. This restaurant did not disappoint! We went on a Thursday, which as we found out right after we sat down, is the night that Decca does half off bottles of wine. So my wife and I split a wonderful bottle of Burgundy. On that note, Decca had a very nice assortment of wines available, though I would recommend adding some wines from Dundee, OR.
For food, we split the kale and Brussels sprouts salad, the spaghetti squash side, and the pork chop main. Every dish was excellent, though we liked the salad the most. We used the focaccia served with the meal to wipe up the dressing. For dessert, we had the butterscotch panna cotta. We weren't a huge fan of that, because it was a little too acidic, but it didn't hamper the meal at all.
I would definitely go back. - Lora C.Louisville, KY

7/4/2020We came here on a recommendation. Didn't see the cool basement bar but ate a fabulous meal outside. Great service. Fried green tomatoes is a must. A very nice more upscale drinking with a casual vibe. Perfect portion size.

3/6/20201 check-inAwesome food. I started with the mussels. These were, without a doubt, the best mussels I've ever had. The grilled olive oil focaccia was an awesome touch. Unfortunately, I was full by the time my ribeye arrived. But it had the ideal amount of char and was cooked perfectly. The spaghetti squash was also quite good. Had a nice a crispy layer of seed atop and a bit of char itself. All in all, a great meal and worth every penny. Speaking of which, the bill arrived with sesame chocolate popcorn made in-house.

11/20/2019My friend and I ordered:
Appetizer: Mussels
Middle: Risotto with butternut squash
Main: Steak and Salmon
Dessert: Affogato
Drinks: non-alcoholic rhurbarb ginger ale
Good:
*Booked reservation on Open Table and seated promptly
*Mussels
*The ice cream in the affogato (the ice cream was delicious)
*Rhubarb drink (very delicious)
Bad:
*Price for the quality, especially the steak. The steak was rough, not a premium cut but costs $48. Salmon same thing, not worth $30. Food was cooked well and seasoned well, but too pricey
*the coffee in the affogato was too bitter
*risotto was a bit on the sour side - Brianna B.Cincinnati, OH
1/31/20201 check-inDelicious food, wine, and fun atmosphere. If you're looking for a fun and fancy night out, Decca is the place for you! I ordered the roasted chicken breast and it was delectable. I had the Affogato for dessert and it was the perfect way to end the meal! They also have a fun secret library area that was really cool to explore!

7/29/20191 check-inWent here with some friends, there was 5 of us. We didn't have reservations and were added to the waiting list, were told it would be about 25 minutes. We went to the lounge downstairs for some cocktails while we waited (great selection). Didn't take as long as we thought and we were seated promptly.
First impression: this place is downtown, with ample outdoor seating that's hidden behind vines and flowers, easy to miss but gives you all the good feels once you see it. Loved that you have a secluded feeling in the middle of the city. If you choose to eat inside, it's set up most elegantly and everyone is friendly and welcoming.
Service: from the host, to the bartender, to our server, everyone was great. Very friendly, always had water and happily made recommendations when any of us were being decisive. Professional yet made you feel very comfortable.
Drinks: LOVED the cocktails, and the variety of the cocktail menu. I wish I could have tried them all. They are all made very precisely, with much love. In addition to the regular menu they also have cocktail specials and recommendations.
Food: Unfortunately for me personally this is where I was disappointed. I don't know if I I built my expectations too high or I didn't order the right thing. Presentation of the food was good. I just expected my taste buds to be blown away. For an appetizer we had fried green tomatoes. Very good. Dinner I had salmon, which was cooked well yet I wasn't blown away. Broccoli was very acidic and not good at all. Nothing was terrible I just expected a more mouth watering experience. - Kristen J.Prospect, KY322 friends13 reviews
7/5/2020Had a great experience on their patio this weekend! Dinner was incredible as was the service. I had never eaten on their patio before and it was lovely! It was beautiful, nicely shaded, and overall was very serene. I've eaten at Decca before but this was probably my favorite experience yet! We will definitely be back!

8/23/2019All in all a pretty solid 4-star place - my wife and I had dinner here after flying into Louisville and exploring the area for the first time. It's situated in an interesting neighborhood to saunter about in. We had reservations but it didn't necessarily look like we needed them on a Friday evening. The place is pretty big and was busy but not completely full.
The negative jumped out right away, the dining room was kept way too cold for us - I mean, it was quite hot outside that day but considering everyone is dressed for the hot weather, it was freezing inside! We had a knowledgeable server and she accommodated my wife's dietary concerns well.
We ordered a couple of mocktails which were both fantastic - The Grapefruit Fizz and The Cascade.
The food was overall really good, there were some standouts and a couple so-so dishes. I loved the Fried Green Tomatoes, this was my personal favorite of the night. The Wild Shrimp a la Plancha had a lot of flavor going on and was also delicious. Lastly we loved the charred beat flavor from the wood-grill.
The pork chop was a bit underwhelming flavor wise and took a long time to come out - we were warned of this ahead of time by our server so it didn't concern us much, but she also raved about the pork and we ended up finding it the weakest dish of the night.
They ended the meal by giving us some nice brown sugar/butter style popcorn which was a nice touch. The Cellar downstairs is a nice place to grab a drink if you're waiting for a table or in the mood for an after dinner drink. Definitely give this place a shot, but if the weather is nice, I'd recommend sitting outside. - Amy M.Louisville, KY241 friends12 reviews11 photos
12/18/2019This was a a wonderful place for my daughters and me to have a special holiday meal. The food was superb, the service was excellent and we could not have been more pleased. Friends had given suggestions for favorite appetizers (linguine), which live up to the hype. The unexpected twist was the fantastic service
and unexpected use of hazelnuts in a couple of the dishes. So delicious. Worth the visit and the money. - Olivia P.Louisville, KY
8/25/20191 check-inMy overall experience at Decca was wonderful. The service and the outdoor patio alone would've earned a 5 star review, however I was not overly impressed with the food options. Not only is their menu limited, the items listed are pricey for what is offered. I tried the linguine along with a glass of wine. I originally wanted to order the shrimp dish but after learning there were no substitutions that could be made (including not using nuts due to a nut allergy) I opted for the linguine which also could not have anything added (I asked about adding shrimp). The linguine was oddly sour tasting, which wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I expected. I think my expectations were a little higher due to what I'd heard others say about Decca, but overall I was not impressed. I would still come back for drinks on the beautifully lit patio and the downstairs cellar!

3/8/20191 check-inReally loved this place. Very eclectic menu with an abundance of local flair
Waiter new his stuff and was helpful with all menu items
Only thing I would say could help was the lighting. Could not read our menu - Maridyth N.Orlando, FL
11/10/2018I visited this location on recommendation of a colleague. When we first arrived, we were early for our reservation, so we decided to head downstairs to the basement which is the bar. Very cozy, and love the feel of this room! The bartender was nice and accommodating! There was a house white wine special ($5 glass!) that I wasn't sure about, and he let me do a taste test of it and also a Sauvignon Blanc. I ended up choosing the house white wine, because it was delicious! When our reservation time approached, we were able to take our drinks with us to our table.
The main dining room was small, but laid out well. It wasn't too decorated, but had a nice feel to it. Our server was amazingly attentive, and was knowledgeable of the menu. I ordered the Pan Seared Chicken Breast, and we also ordered the Caramelized Cabbage, Charred Beets, and Wood-Grilled Potatoes for the table. The chicken was very good! It was tender, had great flavor, and was juicy. The cabbage was ok (the accompanying brussels sprouts were the star of the dish) and the beets were tasty; however, I did not try the potatoes. For dessert I had a taste of the Golden Delicious Apple Pie (it comes with Buttermilk Ice Cream). That dessert was heavenly!
Overall, this is a classier, fine dining experience. It's located in NuLu, and there is street parking available. I recommend it! - Milton H.Louisville, KY
7/28/20191 check-inPretty awesome joint. Overall it was a great experience. The food was very fresh and tasty and the service was excellent. The restaurant it self was also very clean. If you haven't been you should check it out.

2/10/2019Decca is housed in a beautiful historic home in Louisville's NuLu district. My first impression was a warm, sophisticated décor.
I understand the patio is a wonderful dining option in the summer. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to enjoy the live music in the cellar lounge.
Decca's menu is described as New American with a Mediterranean influence.
We started with the Pappardelle (with Rabbit Sugo, Chickpeas, Buttermilk Ricotta), and found it delightful. We ordered two entrees: Wild Shrimp a la Plancha (Harissa Sausage, Butter Beans, Ramps, Zhug) and the Wood Grilled Chicken Breast (Toasted Farro, Butternut Squash, Madras Curry, Pepitas). For sides, the Wood Grilled Broccoli.
Both entrees were filling, perfectly prepared and presented with elegance.
For dessert, the Affogato (Banana Ice Cream, Chocolate, Peanut Butter Cookie) was decadent.
As I would expect of a refined restaurant like Decca, our server was personable, knowledgeable and knew just the right time to check on us. The entire evening's pacing was spot-on.
Although some Yelpers said the restaurant was expensive, I found it delivered plenty of value when you look at the total dining experience. - Emily H.Louisville, KY
10/4/2018Updated review3 check-insI stand by my five-star review from four years ago, but I would add to it a couple of things.
1) The Cellar space at Decca is an under-appreciated hot spot. It's cozy and romantic, with a private bar and comfy seating. It's a great space for a small event. If it's open when you're at Decca, be sure to walk downstairs and check it out.
2) Decca also has some of the best mocktails I've found in town. Limited at least for the next several months to not drinking alcohol, I've found that a great mocktail is few and far between. Most places just serve a glass of sugar water. Not at Decca, though!
They have three "sober cocktails" on their menu, and I was impressed that it appears that the same amount of work that went into the main cocktails was put into these too.
In particular, the Rhubarb Red ... even if you can have alcohol, I would recommend this drink. It's made with lemon, grenadine, rhubarb bitters and ginger ale. It has some depth to it, and I liked how all of the ingredients came together.
I came to Decca for an event and was just planning on getting one mocktail but ended up getting three of these.
Decca gets missed sometimes in all the hubbub of Louisville culinary wonders, but IMO it deserves a spot with the best of them.
12/18/2014Previous reviewWhy, oh why, has it been so long since I was last here?
I'm perplexed. I'm sad. I'm ashamed -- and even more so because of the excellent meal I just had at Decca.
How many great meals have I been missing out on?
But at least now that I'm reminded of what I've been missing, I hope to become more regular of a customer.
Allow me to explain.
My boyfriend and I ended up at Decca this week, on the search for dinner. There are so many great places to eat at in NuLu, and I convinced him to venture outside of our normal favorites.
I ordered the pan-seared diver scallops, which come with lentils and and a celery cream sauce. He got the slow-braised pork cheek, with beans, fennel, prunes and caraway.
And then on the side, we got the wood-grilled broccoli and spaghetti squash with hazelnuts.
The pork cheek was delicious, but I think I won with the scallops, which had a nice sear and were decently sized. I got three scallops on my plate. And the cream sauce was a nice compliment.
And while the scallops were amazing, the side dishes were the stars of the meal. And really you could make a meal out of a couple of the side dishes. These are meant to be shared, so they are a larger serving.
The spaghetti squash was my absolute favorite. I've had some bland squash -- this was anything but bland. And I loved the addition of the hazelnuts, which you don't see very often.
The broccoli had a definite grilled and almost smoky taste to it. All in all, a nice fall-to-winter meal. (Decca changes its menu seasonally, according to the waiter.)
And to finish the meal off, we shared Decca's ice cream sandwich.
Now, let me say that this was a premium meal that carried a premium cost. For this food, plus two beers and a coffee, we paid nearly $100. And I'm not sure I would have been satiated had I just gotten the scallops by themselves ($27).
But the food was worth it. We might just save dinners at Decca for special occasions.
And in the meantime, I look forward to attending the special events Decca has in its posh, brick cellar bar, as well as in its beautiful courtyard space.
Decca has an upscale feeling all it's own and is definitely worth the trip and money.Read more

7/28/2019This place is great! Cocktails are amazing as well as the food. Service is also very top notch! The outdoor patio is where we sat and it is very nice!

5/20/2019My boyfriend and I were staying at the Bike and Bed right next door so decided to come here for dinner on Saturday night. We sat outside on the patio (best patio we sat on all weekend) which is secluded and has a very nice atmosphere. We did not have reservations but it wasn't a problem, we got sat right away.
The service was great, our waitress was very friendly and attentive. We both ordered drinks, shared the Pan Roasted Mussels for an appetizer, and got the Clam Linguini and Crispy Pork Milanese for entrees. The mussels appetizer was so delicious, huge portion size and well cooked. The clam linguini was a bit of a disappointment. It didn't really hit the spot. Although it wasn't was he was expecting my boyfriend enjoyed his pork.
Overall we enjoyed our dinner and recommend it to others. We do, however, wish we would have checked out the basement cellar. - Andrew S.Walnut Creek, CA41 friends72 reviews65 photos
9/5/2019After being overwhelmed by all the fried chicken and bourbon options in Louisville, I had a craving for a higher-end 'fine dining' option. I went on OpenTable, and this was the first option that had availability. I had made a reservation just half an hour before closing. Once I arrived, the friendly host greeted us and sat us immediately. Service was quick and friendly.
Ricotta Cavatelli (4.5/5) - Perfectly balanced flavor with lots of bacon served with perfectly al dente cavatelli.
Crispy Salmon (4.25/5) - Very crispy skin to the extent of slightly difficult to cut through, salmon was slightly undercooked throughout, however the tahini and butter beans brought the dish together very well.
Cascade soda (4/5) - Quite tart and refreshing.
Pecan popcorn (4.75/5) - Only a few actual popcorn were served in the dish, but those few were very good. The rest was crumbled and a few pecans. - Michael D.Minneapolis, MN131 friends3 reviews
1/1/2020I found an event posted online for the jazz group the Buzzard playing at Decca. The event started at 8 so I made a reservation at 8. I made the reservation about 4 hours prior to the event and it said it was still a go. However, when I arrived the hostess informed us that the music was actually downstairs at the bar and we wouldn't be able to hear the music. She then informs us that the jazz night had been canceled and has been moved to another date. No information was posted about the cancelation and or about them playing downstairs online which was a little misleading.
My friend and I ended up staying and eating there but the prices were in our opinion a little ridiculous for the experience. For example my friend got the bib salad which was just lettuce, shaved onions, radish, and some dressing in a tiny container. The salad alone was 12 dollars. I got the perperdell which I though was good but still overpriced. All and all I think Louisville has a lot better of places with better atmosphere and food for a cheaper price.
