Metros new slogan should be "Back to No Good ." This is the most ridiculous subway system i have ever experienced in my life. And this is compare to NY, SF, Tehran.
Very disappointing, after all that noise, after all, it was just noise.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Owen ..San Francisco, CA010Feb 16, 2024
I use the Metro infrequently, some changes have occurred in the interim - fares and fare cards, schedules, etc.The station agent at the Vienna station is a delight: friendly, helpful, informative and considerate. I was traveling off-peak, the cars are notably cleaner than in the past, cars were uncrowded and the ride was smooth timely convenient and expeditious. Connection to the red line was similar. With what I would expect to be a recent vast increase in DC tax revenues from rapid real estate renewal and development, it would be great to see focused investment in the continued improvement, catch up in repairs and more regular maintenance of this system that offers so much potential.

I arrived at the Ballston Station on Saturday just to go to East Falls Church.
I find out that the Station doesn't open until 7 AM. So I have an hour to wait. People have to work on Saturdays!
There are three mentally ill people at the Station. One beating a trash can with a board. One spouting nonsense and another who gets in a verbal fight with him. No metro police anywhere!
Then I enter the Station and the train won't arrive for 40 minutes!!! So an hour and 40 minutes to go two miles! I left and it cost me $2 just to exit!!!
I'm getting an electric bicycle.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Tony J.Sussex County, DE50007588275Sep 25, 2021
I use to take DC metro often when I travelled here on business pre-COVID. I have my own metro card. This was my first time to take the DC metro post-COVID. I boarded one of their new 7000 series trains at the Vienna station. All customers are required to wear masks. I took the orange line to Metro Center, where I changed to the red line to Union Station so I could board my Amtrak train back home to New Jersey. Both trains were very clean. The metro Union Station had some of the new turnstyles to exit into Union Station, but, the escalators were under repair, which is very common at many of the metro stations. Overall my experience was positive, since I expected these usual escalator malfunctions.

Orange you glad I reviewed this line?
I don't get it. I freaking love the Orange Line. It's such a clean train, it goes from way out in Fairfax all the way through Falls Church and into Arlington and then downtown DC and beyond. It's perfect. I love this train. It would take me all the way to Maryland, to a Muse concert, or to all sorts of tourist attractions, girls' houses, boys' houses (if I was in the mood), and I'd go see DC United play as well, changing at Metro Center downtown.
People who work here are rude, yes, but that's every metro line and station and network in the world basically.
Trains were always clean, efficient, and if only they could have extended the line out to George Mason campus, my entire college life would have been perfect.
Speaking of perfect... want to hang out tonight?Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 8Oh no 0 - John F.Falls Church, VA203209813738Jun 18, 2018Updated review
After writing an experience on my favorite subway, before its decline, I remembered two things that I wish to share. The first being No Pants Day in the middle of the winter time. I have seen this two times. Once on the Redline and once on the Orangeline.
As cooked as it was, I saw more men than woman participating in this day of fun. I have thought about joining little event but always missed out on the chance. Maybe I would rather do it on a day I am not going to work.
The other experience the homeless man. The guy was sitting there minding his on business and that's fine.
From where I was sitting I saw him getting his stuff together to leave. The homeless man asked a lady a question to which I dont know her answer. She was reading from a newspaper and seemed occupied.
The homeless man got up and walked out. Unfortunately most of his ass was exposed too . I from my angle I saw a lot but at least I wasn't the only one who noticed.
What came next was worse than seeing the homeless man's backside. The smell of extremely unwashed ass and body odor hit our noses soon after the man went through the doors of the train.
It was like a gas chamber. The people sitting the closest to the homeless man got the most concentrated dose of stink first. I saw the woman's head snap up and the look on her face said it all.
She eventually moved, but the stink was in her nostrils, tongue and memory. Soon I was hit with the fetid stink and as were everyone else. It.
I know at some point in time everyone smells ass/body odor, but it should be at this level. To make matters worse, all the other train cars were pack except the train car I was in. Some higher being has a strange sense of humor.
All and all, this experience gave me an idea for a story. All it took as unhealthy ass and a ton of stink to open my mind.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Jun 9, 2018Previous reviewIt has been a little over 8 months since I used the subway. The one day we show up to ride the subway, the station is closed. I should have checked, but my mind was full of other things.
After driving to a different metro station, things got better. The prices have gone up ten cents at the Dunn Loring parking garage.
Once on the train, there are times I enjoy watching some of the things people will do in the metro. There is a rocking motion of the train can put you to sleep after a while. This is something I completely forgot about since I stopped riding the train. I even forgot about No Pants Day on the subway.
The metro ride wasn't bad, but we were not in a hurry. During the work week being a regular rider I might notice a big difference.
I am glad this one experience despite beginning had a positive impact on the rest of our day. - Feb 7, 2015
Stretching from the Western Terminus of Vienna VA and passing through downtown DC before heading to the Eastern Termini in New Carrollton MD or Largo Town Center MD, the Orange line includes 26 stations. Some are above ground and some are under ground. Much of the line overlaps and is shared with either the Blue Line or the Silver Line. The Orange Line opened in 1978 and runs a distance of 26.4 miles.
During peak times, trains run every six minutes which is usually often enough though I've seen that they occasionally bunch up. During off-peak times, the schedule says that they run every 20 minutes but that can stretch a bit to even 30 minutes for a train to arrive. And of course, the Metro does not run around the clock, starting at 5AM on weekdays and 7AM on weekends. And the last train is at midnight for Sunday to Thursday and 3AM on Friday and Saturday. Kinda lame.
WMATA has a single rolling stock - all the cars fit on all of the tracks. The cars are usually in pretty good shape.Helpful 5Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - K L.Silver Spring, MD3142Dec 3, 2016
Never, ever , ever ride Metro, DC on the weekend. A one hour trip during the week , has taken me nearly three hours . Everything from unplanned single tracking , and unexpected delays has made me dislike this cities public train system. You will miss your connecting train and be stuck at the next station for more than twenty minutes, while waiting for your next train.
***Metro should offer riders discounts, and not ask for any more rate increases until the service improves. Everytime a rider is inconvenienced, Metro should reduce a riders fare.****
Do yourself a favor and take a Uber, ride a bike, or walk.
It will save you precious time.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - William R.Woodbridge, VA095Oct 27, 2016
The orange line is crowded from 7:30-9:15am and 4:30-6:30pm. During off-peak times, intervals between trains can be long.
The frequent stops in the middle of a tunnel sometimes get an explanation, but those explanations are often hard to understand. Those frequent stops can range from 10-20 seconds to 10-20 minutes.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - John C.Orlando, FL4811002194Mar 22, 2017
Not the cleanest; and, not the fastest; but, it seems like it is going through with some improvements. The Orange Line was dependable, getting us to the Capitol and back without a hitch. We were able to add to our fare cards very easily, as all the machines were working fine.
