Q:
Do they still have a different soup every day?
A:
I would call the restaurant because I think after the pandemic they had only the same soups.

It's has been a long time since my last visit in 2018. Glad to see the place is still open and welcoming.
Love the log cabin vibe and the friendly staffs. Not much changes in their menu but the prices are more expensive now.
Biscuit and gravy- just mediocre
Pork chops- a bit dry
Chill and egg- nice
Soup of the day, chicken and rice soup is flavorful.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 13, 2024
This homey diner is a Fremont staple for old fashioned indulgent American breakfast. Portions are gigantic (I ate my omelette over 4 days). Friends often want to meet here, but you'll likely have to wait for a table. Service is very friendly.
I would go elsewhere if you are trying to eat healthy. Even the omelettes and sautéed vegetables are swimming in butter. Eating vegan here would likely be difficult (unless you ate maybe plain toast & jam without butter, or pasta with marinara sauce, maybe a mixed green salad with no dressing).Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 44330361Apr 6, 2024
TLDR: Big Portions for reasonable price.
This place has done the impossible, and for that, it gets 5 stars. It has managed to change my wife's mood from angry to happy! It started bad as soon as we left. She took a look at Country way on Yelp and immediately disliked it. From the all wood walls and roof, to the old looking booths... it's not her style at all. Immediately she started complaining about it, and how it looks like there's only one bathroom and it's raining and this is our one free day to go out, etc etc.
Her mood only worsened when we had to wait about 20 minutes... IN THE RAIN. And then after being seated, she was served... what she so lovingly calls "Coffee water". In other words, not strong at all. It looked like I was going to be in the doghouse... UNTIL the food arrived. HUGE portions, THREE EGGS, a huge grilled sausage with those lovely char marks, and half a plate of potatoes. And it ALL tasted delicious!
I had a belgian waffle combo, and the waffle was pretty great. It was crispy on the outside, which I love. And it was soft and fluffy inside. I also had ham which was just HUGE.
And by the end of the wonderful feast, her mood became happy. I didn't expect any breakfast place that can lighten her, but this place has done it. This place is a Fremont institution. It's been around since I was a child, and I hope it continues long after I'm senile.

Service is always quick and very friendly. Hadnt been here in AGES. Literally. Had the steak and eggs and asked for medium rare & overeasy eggs& potatoes . The steak in my picture looks a bit charred but once you cut into it, it was definitely medium rare so i was happy. Eggs were runny. Could not ask for more. Their portions are on the larger side. OH! OH! and their mimosas are worth it too.

WOW ! I'm can't believe it's been a little over six years before I updated this review. Came in on Easter Sunday for Biscuits and gravy but waitress said they ran out of biscuits :(.
My go to's are: The French Toast, Ground Round dinner with added mushrooms and now I discovered my favorite Sammie. I'm not usually a sandwich lover, but this sandwich was more like a meal with delicious seasoned thin beef, perfectly grillEd slices of onions and green bell peppers, and a melted cheese and a shiny super soft white roll made this an OMG moment. It's basic ingredients but also delicious. It was moist fresh and piping hot when it was placed on the table. The Philly Cheesesteak sandwich is my favorite lunchtime item.
On the same plate, The unsalted steak fries were fried perfectly . It was thick, lightly golden and pillow soft in the insides. I appreciate that no salt was added automatically. I forgot to say no salt as I always ask for unsalted fries, but it's like they read my mind. I like the standard of the kitchen, not adding salt to the french fries.
It also came with a cup of chicken and rice soup. The soup was not a hit for me. It tasted bland. I will see next time if I can substitute the soup for a salad. I have had better soups in the past, so I'm not holding this against them. Lol It just tasted meh and texture was mushy like.
For the Sammie, i devoured half bc it was rather large (great :), and eagerly enjoyed the other half the next day, by wrapping in foil and warming up in my air oven.
On another note, my dining companion decided on the ground round breakfast, based on my recommendation. The dish did not disappoint. I converted yet another avid hamburger lover to now enjoy the ground round breakfast. The hash-browns were perfectly golden. The toast was not burnt lol and the over medium eggs were fried just right
To summit up this is one of my favorite go to places when I am in Fremont.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Sep 15, 2017Previous reviewThis is my 2 year update on this old school restaurant in Fremont. Obviously I have been here numerous times since 2015 and brought family and friends here and has not heard a bad thing. In fact, most have said, they can't beleive how they stay in business. So much food and so good. One thing I learned is they have been around for 59 years. Not sure if in the same building. But building is like those older pancake house A-shaped building (I'm sure their is an architectural name for this style). Kids call it a log cabin because on the inside their are logs coming out from the wall. Also their is a window at table level on 3/4 of building. They even use an old school manual push button register. But food has always been fresh. Cold is served cold and hot foods are served hot.
Dinner combos are the best deal. You get unlimited bread, butter chips, soup (cup) with crackers AND green salad (good size), your hot entree w/ 2 sides and a old school nostalgic dessert (ice cream sundae, bread pudding, jello) I always come home with leftovers 100% of the time.
Hot Breakfast combos are made to order. Last visit my guest had Ranchers steak (cooked to MR) and eggs (OM) , potato hash, fries etc. and (w/ choice of b-fast) toasted bread. My favorite is their French Toast. You must get with strawberries. They are known for their French Toast. I beleive they use baquette bread, instead of Texas toast, sliced bread etc...
Hamburgers are grilled and the taste is awesome. I like flamed grilled over an open flame (like Burger King) instead if a griddle (McDonald's style. Burger is made to order too.
All in all, my favorite family (non franchised) nostalgic decor with the way food should be. I was told that they use no microwave in the prep of the dishes :)Jun 18, 2015Previous reviewWell don't know if my little review would make a difference after over 1200 other reviews but I still enjoy them. I think they offer great prices, humongous platters, dishes include soup and/or salad, unlimited sourdough bread, crackers, butter chips and dessert. My favorite is ground chuck (basically a big thick charred burger w/out bread) it's great in flavor. It's a lot of food, so come hungry. My favorite bfast is the sourdough French toast. They always keep you quenched w/ your beverage before it hits bottom. it's a bit old looking...like walking into an old school cabin in Tahoe, but it's like family with the chatty loud wait staff and unpretentious guests and families. I don't know how they can serve huge dishes w/it's appetizers and desserts at a great price.

I am 100% positive that I wrote a review for country way a long time ago. I don't know why Yelp keeps deleting my reviews.
Super busy on weekends and not so much during the week. Hefty large portions that will guarantee you leftovers for later. I love their corn beef hash and country fried potatoes. Country fried potatoes are my favorite and is a must try and go well with everything. Avoid weekends if you can and stop by during the week.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Yogibear C.Fremont, CA132067May 14, 2024
Few places where you get enough in plates to fill you up at a reasonable price. Food and service is all great. Everyone is attentive to give you a refill. Parking is easy and the menu has abundant choices for everyone to pick from.

Came here the past Saturday. This place has the regular American brunch items you will find at other places, nothing special. The portion is huge and descent price. My rating is based solely on the country fried steak.
I am a country fried steak person, with gravy on the side and if I do come back, I will not order this again. There is too much peppers in the batter and the meat inside lack flavor. The country fried steak was not even crispy and the texture just reminded me of a meatloaf. The gravy is mediocre not salty like other places I try.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 2 - 38982282Jan 29, 2024
Been going here since childhood and I will forever know this breakfast place for the huge portions. The service is the kind that will know you by name the more you come back and will definitely take care of you. The place itself gives very comfortable vibes that make you feel like you're in a cabin in a different city lol overall love the place and love the food :)
