We stopped in for a few drinks and were treated to 5* service. We had a large group but that didn't slow the service down and everyone had drinks within a few minutes. My Sangria was homemade (yup not from a bottle or box) and it was delicious. We were all treated to chips and salsa even though we didn't order food. The menu looked scrumptious so will definitely e back to try a meal.

BEYOND DISGUSTING!!! I had it, my last time here, few months ago I came with my family for dinner since I liked the cucumber margarita, we ordered our food, the skillet or whatever they name it, it comes with shrimp and steak it was burned, the black beans were cold, brought it to our server's attention and she was so embarrassed and highly apologize, told us it was an inconvenience with the chef
Okay today my husband and I decided to go back for dinner after work, we got same waitress, food was good, we even joke about the chef feeling better today, I ordered my favorite cucumber margarita and my husband another margarita but I forgot the name of it anyway, we asked for our bill, husband paid, we were seating, I was sipping on my margarita, I love salt so here I'm tasting I it fin the rim of the glass when I see RED LIPSTICK!! YES, you read it right, red lipstick inside and out, I almost puke
Husband call the waitress, she was so embarrassed, went to show it to a woman, I believe to be the manager or owner, who knows, she didn't even got her butt off the chair to come to our table, instead the busboy did and apologize, the waitress said "I'm so sorry, I can't even take it off your bill because you pay already"
First of all, I'm not looking for a freebie, is just the type of customer service the other woman had, I got so paranoid thinking Oh my God!! What if, you can understand the what if means, I'm sorry but this is it and I really hope people take the time to read my review, I took a picture against my husband's will, I just don't think is fair, this is unsanitary and honestly I feel like calling health department on themHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kimberly D.Mount Airy, MD017Dec 29, 2018
Went last night.. not busy for a Friday night. Ordered house Rita pretty good tasting. Chips, Salas just ok really no taste or heat. I ordered Carnitas and it was terrible no taste at all. My friend had fish tacos not sure if she really liked or was just hungry. She was dumping tasteless salsa all over the tacos.
I would only drink there next timeHelpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - rosalind p.Culver City, CA6128Jan 1, 2020
Disgusting beyond tastebuds. Don't go. Heavily oversalted, poor quality meats and terrible rice and beans. Worst Mexican we have ever eaten. Can't believe ether still are open for business. Eewwww, all the way home.

Compadres is my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. If you're in a rush, the buffet will do the trick; however, we love to explore the menu. Do yourself a favor and try the Authentic Homestyle Tacos! My favorite is the Chupacabra Tacos (each comes with a different sauce) - just outstanding.
Service is always good and the location is perfect.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Melissa D.Savannah, GA06May 5, 2019
If you're looking for bland, unauthentic Mexican food, this is your place! The burrito and enchiladas my husband and I had consisted of boiled, unseasoned chicken, and sauce which was 90% water.
I was expecting dirty, greasy, American "Mexican" food (my expectations were not set high--and I was okay with this), but this was flat-out gross. I even let the word "gross" come out of my mouth when sending back my plate after a couple of bites.
I haven't found a good Mexican restaurant in downtown Greenville, but this is one I will never set foot in again.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Christian R.Plant City, FL801Aug 7, 2020

Pretty solid above average Mexican place. The place is clean. The service is pleasant and fast. The price is inexpensive.
We go here a lot for lunch. It is close to work, and the buffet is very quick.
The star of the buffet is hands down the cactus and pork. Tender pork and cactus cooked nicely.
Not the greatest food in the world, but for a fast inexpensive lunch, it beats fast food hands down.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Dec 30, 2016
Awful. Cheap does not mean good. We tried the lunch buffet which was not hot. Beef burritos were a bit dry, flour tortillas were cold. Rice and beans were strictly average. My husband ate the chicken fajitas and he said the chicken was moist and tender but not sizzling. Service was good but we will not be back.

After perusing some of the other reviews for Compadre's, it seems I had a very different experience than a lot of the people rating this restaurant 2-3 stars.
I'd eaten at Compadres before and thought it far superior to the other Mexican restaurants in downtown Greenville (though certainly not the best I've had or even the best in the area as a whole). And then recently I had dinner here with my family at around 5 PM on a Thursday night. We were practically the only people in the restaurant. Service was timely and friendly. The manager stopped by our table at one point to make sure everything was okay (it was).
In terms of atmosphere and service, this restaurant is far superior to Cantinflas and Guadalajara on North Main. It also has better margaritas than them, and I used to think Compadres had better food as well. But it appears they've revamped their menu since the last time I ate here, and I wasn't overly impressed with anything this time around. The fajitas and flautas were okay, though the beef for the fajitas was pretty dry and tough and the chicken in my flautas was dry as well. The rice served on the side was so bland it was sad, and why in the world do I have to pay extra for sour cream at a sit-down restaurant?
It seems that they may have stepped up their service game, but overall I'm disappointed, especially compared to how I remember enjoying Compadres the last time I ate/drank here.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
