Q:
Has anyone else's debit card been compromised and charged here? I had to replace my card
A:
Yes, however I was able to verify it was legitimate. Basically, we got free food. So now they are trying to reconcile and get "caught up" with the charges that never actually hit our cards/accounts. I compared Google maps timeline, to my bank… more

I'm not even gonna lie I was genuinely impressed with Colima's Mexican Food. My first time there and I would definitely go there again.
Not knowing where to go for mexican food and it was nearing midnight, I pulled up Yelp and saw this place near the bottom of the list. It was the only open place, and I was hungry, so I wanted to give it a try.
I pulled up to the drive-thru line, at around 11pm, to then be greeted by one of the guys (I feel bad I didn't catch his name). He was super nice and really was attentive to me despite it being late.
I ordered the milanesa plate and would say that was a solid meal. Beans, salsa, breaded steak, and rice, the whole 9 yards. Ordered a bag of chips as well!
A 3.5 stars is not enough for this place, considering how good the food was, the welcoming staff, and how it satisfied my hunger; 5 stars for sure!! - Marianne F.San Diego, CA59915125/11/2023
I didn't take a photo of the albondigas soup I ordered, but this is the best soup besides my grandmas that she used to make. Absolutely the best soup I've had at a restaurant.
Also had the churros and they're delicious.
Will take a photo next order, because I will probably get it again tomorrow. Â

It pains me to read that people have been getting poor service! The clerk that was helping was very helpful with explaining the menu. This place has so many options and she managed to keep it together cause I was so wishy washy with what I wanted.
The Colima burrito is freaking gigantic! I feel like I made out like a bandit with how much food was given to me for the price. We visited this place because of the drunchies from hanging out and drinking at North Park and I'm glad this is where we ended up. I couldn't even finish the monstrosity they called a burrito. Definitely worth coming back to if I ever travel again to San Diego. - 36431334/17/2023Updated review
Now I see why this location doesn't have a consistent 4+ star rating or above. It's the lack of good customer service. I've been here 5 times since my last review. Same order. Veggie burrito, with black beans. Twice it was made incorrectly, once they couldn't find my food and they said I didn't order. I do the same thing. I call on my phone, place my order and no one ever wants my name.
When I arrive there's always 7 or more people working. They always "seem" to be busy. I just left, there were 3 people eating inside and no one in the drive through. One of the three people behind the register will notice you. They might be texting. They might be restocking. They might just be talking amongst themselves. I'm in no rush, and they aren't either to help you. Today I had to wait after I paid to get the ladies attention again because she owed me a few more dollars than she gave me in change. I pay in cash, I was wondering where the rest of my money was at. Veggie burritos to go don't cost $15 here.
The food is amazing. Worth it. Be patient when you're here and expect to wait. Customers could get better service here, but that's not what this place is about. Come for the food and leave. This review is based of of my last 6 visits. Consistency shows, good or bad.3/28/2023Previous reviewThis is my go to Mexican spot when I'm near north park and hillcrest. I'm surprised to see their star rating isn't higher than it is. The food portions are the big portions you'd expect when ordering Mexican food. I do eat meat, but right now I'm enjoying a delicious vegetarian burrito. They give you a choice of beans, I always go with the whole black beans.
Other items I've had here are the Cali burrito, rolled tacos, regular tacos, fries, agua frescas
Chips, tostadas and a michelada. I get the habanero and avocado salsas. At the end of the salsa bar they always have grilled veggies and peppers on the house as well. Any amount of time I've had to wait here is always worth it. Good places get busy. Nothing bad to say and can't wait to come back. Keep up the good work Colimas. - 3082648083/5/2023
A stand alone corner restaurant that gets a ton of play! They have the trifecta: drive thru, dine in and to go. My husband has NEVER had a california burrito in his life and this is where I decided to make the magic happen.
We ordered a chorizo breakfast burrito and a California burrito. Both did not disappoint. The open salsa bar was perfect for a more spicy palette. My California burrito was HUGE. And the best thing is that it was not full of just beans and rice as some places do as a filler. My burrito was PACKED with tender, flavorful carne asada, guacamole, crispy French fries as well as sour cream and cheese. The tortilla was nice and grilled. My first bite wasn't just a mouthful of tortilla to get it the groove going. I already hit gold- hella meat, hella good.
It is close to the university so you do see a lot of college kids floating in which shows the convenience and affordability. The most expensive thing on the menu was floating around $12. Like what?!?!
We saw a poster for Taco Tuesdays. $1.50 tacos and $2.00 beer. Frick yeah! - Veronica V.Lemon Grove, CA018125/21/2023
The service is great and the food is amazing. I highly recommend this place for a quick grab after a long party night or Sunday lunch.

I got the chile relleno burrito with asada and it was alright. I'm trying more mexican spots in SD, but I don't think I'll come back here.

Always my go-to place for Mexican food, since it's super close to where I live. Despite the long lines inside and the drive thru, it's still worth the wait because of how good the food is!
I get their carne asada nachos, San Diego burrito, fish burrito, and bag of chips (not at the same time, but I rotate among these three, especially lately). Additionally, I get their breakfast burritos and that definitely fills me up (I get the bacon, egg, and potato one). They haven't disappointed me just yet, but one of my friends found a tiny bone in one of their burritos, so I just want to point that out to the restaurant and everyone else eating the meat-filled food. - 185174669311/15/2022Updated review
Who doesn't love a good redemption story? And seeing as I'm all for giving second chances, I dabbled back into an old fave, Colima's.
Now I had previously had an incident with Colima's, that unfortunately, kept me away for some time. But sometimes you get a late night itch, and by golly - you're going to scratch it from time to time.
Welp, consider me scratched cause Saturday night I was feeling Colima's and hot damn, if it wasn't the best meal I've ever had from them. So good that I was blowing up their phone yesterday, just to tell them how great they are.
Now if you don't know already, Mexican food is my love language. So when my lady suggested Mexican food, there were two immediate options that came to mind; Colima's was one of them.
We ordered the usual, Colima's trio and Carne Asada fries, but also opted to try the adobada burrito. Good gracious that meal was bodacious. The carne asada fries were crispy, by request, and loaded with the best carne Colima's ever cooked up. The meat was sliced perfectly into nice chunks that happily maintained their tenderness throughout the cook. No teeny tiny bits of dry meat here- 5/5! The Colima's trio (shredded beef taco, 3 rolled tacos, and a bean tostada) was also fantastic. The rolled tacos and taco were chock-full of beautifully flavored shredded beef. Yummmmbo- 5/5! And don't even get me started on the excellence that was THEE adobada burrito. Everything I said about the carne, same for the adobada...and talk about FLAVORRR. THEE adobada is definitely getting added to the rotation- 5/5!
All in all, everything was bomb! I couldn't wait to tell Elmer and the crew what a great job they're doing. THANK YOU COLIMA'S!!! Tonight, you definitely earned the 5 stars!
"Sometimes you get an itch and you scratch it."1/2/2020Previous reviewOh Colima's, you've really bungled it up this time.
I've had a few terrible (worst breakfast burrito ever) and a number of unpleasant experiences with Colima's over the years, relagating them to a last resort option for Mexican food. Originally, only a really long night of North Park drinking would bring me here as it was an easy way to get food before heading home for the night.
So recently, I've had my bro staying with me and as a former North Parker, Colima's is kind of his go to. After  indulging in a late night order of pretty delicious Carne Asada fries (they're pretty decent "if" they're done right) with my bro, I decided to give Colima's another shot at regaining their ranking in my Mexican food heirarchy.
Over the last 2 months, I'd ordered Doordash from Colima's 7 times. Out of those 7, the food was made correctly 2 times. The other times I either got incorrect food or it wasn't prepared as requested (at least 3 times I got Nacho cheese on my fries after requesting shredded cheese). Adding insult to injury, on each of these 7 occasions, I called Colima's immediately after placing my Doordash order to confirm they got the "Crispy fries" and "shredded cheese" requests. Each time they assured me they had it correct and my order would arrive as requested. Â 2 out of 7 times (~29%) my order was correct and that is simply unacceptable. Luckily Doordash provided a portion of or complete refund on 3 or 4 of those occasions. Talk about being inconsistent.
Well on the last few Doordash orders I noticed a trend. Since two receipts were included with my order, one from the order I placed with Doordash and one showing what the cashier rang in at the restaurant, I noticed that the cashier was entering the items incorrectly (see pics below). Even when I would order the fries with shredded cheese, the cashier would enter the nacho cheese option. Another time, the cashier entered a burrito and 3 rolled tacos instead of what I ordered, the Colima's Trio. After having repeated issues and noticing this discrepancy, I decided to call the store after another incorrect order on 12/26. I figured contacting Doordash wasn't going to actually fix the problem so I went directly to the source to provide that feedback. I spoke with Carlos on the phone and he was extremely apologetic. He understood my frustrations and promised to provide a free order of Carne Asada fries on my next visit. He assured me that once providing my name and phone number, he would document it in a book to be claimed on my next visit. Rather than contact Doordash for a refund, I took Carlos' word and decided to just get the free order on my next visit (Mind you, all 7 visits were via DoorDash so going into the store was going to be more work on my end but I agreed in hopes I could show them the receipts to remedy the frequently reoccurring issue).
On January 1 (5 days after my original order and speaking with Carlos) to get my free Carne Asada fries along with a Colima's Trio. The young lady at the counter initially began looking around the cashier area for a note from Carlos. After she couldn't find the note, she asked if I had a receipt and I did so I showed it to her. She then explained that Carlos doesn't work here anymore so she could only give me 50% on the fries. I expressed to her that that wasn't going to work for me and explained to her that not only was this order to be free, but I also showed her several receipts of the other issues I had recently had, which was the main reason I was coming in in-person. She then expressed that my issue should have been taken up with Doordash. I told her that I had been handling the issues through doordash but it wasn't fixing the issues. After requesting to speak to the manager, she went and spoke to him and returned to say they wouldn't accommodate me.
After heading to the parking lot to speak with Doordash, who immediately refunded me, I headed back into Colima's to speak to the manager. After requesting the manager, the young lady at the counter said he went home. Really!?! I'd been in the parking lot talking to Doordash and nobody even left.
If you didn't believe my issue in the first place, why offer the 50% off? What did it matter that Carlos didn't work their anymore? It sounds as though that employee left on bad terms and so they decided to take it out on me.
The inconsistency and terrible customer service is enough for me to never ever return so I won't. It's a shame that you let $4 (half the cost of a carne asada fries) be the reason you lost a few regular customers.
