I am leaving for the airport today and my furnace started acting up. I have a service plan with Coan and they had someone out in under an hour. it was a tricky problem and the technician did an excellent job. I'm very happy with them.

First time home owner here. Husband out of town on work. Furnace starts making what sound like a drum solo at a rock concert type noise.
I made my first service call to Coan and from that moment on they were friendly and courteous. They set me up for an emergency call the next day. Me having to work, they were able to call me 15 min prior/ when the tech was on his way. Also called asking for a smaller time frame. Which I wasn't surprised when they said they could not. I get a call back from the very friendly employee. He states I'm the next on the list. I was shocked! What service.
My problem was fixed. I'm one happy customer. Thanks again!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Laura R.San Francisco, CA092Jan 3, 2023
While I don't consume much oil in the winter months , I have always had a very good experience with Coan oil. Just last week, a technician came out day of when I informed them of an oil leak in my tank. The technician was so personable and helpful- it made the sting of being informed that I needed a replacement tank easier to swallow. I don't have a plan with them, so the temporary repair was a bit expensive for me, but I bet for customers who have a plan , the cost would be much lower. I also had a very informative and pleasant conversation with Nate (?) who assists customers with replacement tanks. I would highly recommend Coan Oil to those looking for an honest, professional and customer orientated company.

Dishonest conversations and condescending attitude was all I got from COAN. As a damage control, I decided to fire them 4 days before the first scheduled oil delivery. COAN has a reputation of making their regular customers happy, and that was why I reached out to them in the first place with a friend's referral. Unfortunately I didn't have the same experience that my friend got.
They came over on Day 1 for an initial inspection and told me that I need to replace my old, slightly-leaking oil tank. The sales person tried to sell me a $2,600 replacement package. I ignored the offer and asked a local oil tank company instead to replace it with a brand new one on Day 7. At that time my oil gauge was already running low at 1/16 ~ 1/32.
Then on Day 8 (a Thursday), I called this young salesman to schedule a delivery as soon as they could. He told me they will try to deliver on Friday, but not guaranteed. I'm promised to get my oil by Saturday. Either way, they would give me a call on Friday. I totally understood that, given I gave them a short notice. He also "calmed" me down by claiming that my 70-degree 1,500-sqft ranch only burns 1 gallon per day. They don't know that I have a master's degree in Statistics, which means it is within my skillsets to do the math: in his theory, my 275-gallon tank can cover 275 days, which is 9 months. It is okay to tell white lies sometimes to calm someone down, but this is insulting my IQ.
On Day 9 (Friday), I didn't get any call by 1:30pm. Therefore I called their service manager instead and was transferred to a field guy. The field guy had a big attitude and expressed his "surprise" of having him coming over on Friday or Saturday. He said Friday was all booked up and they don't work on weekends in springs. I said, "but my tank is running dangerously low on oil". He said "well then I HAVE NOTHING TO TELL YOU." and then transferred my call to a woman sales director.
The saleswoman director picked up my phone and started to question me in a CONDESCENDING tone whether I pulled a permit of the new tank. I answered "I have no idea. Need to check with the tank people first." She said she is surprised that I didn't have a permit ready in the first place. They would never fill up a tank without a permit because they wouldn't take the risk of getting trouble with a home insurance company. I repeated what she said to make sure I understood her "ma'am, are you saying that you need A) a permit B) another inspection, before you can fill up my tank?" She didn't answer that question directly, but replied, again in a CONDESCENDING tone, that they will never take any risk of doing anything to my tank right now.
Finally, my Caucasian friend, who is a loyal customer to COAN called them. Magically 15 minutes later, a COAN guy showed up on my door with a couple hand-held containers and filled 10 gallons as a temporary workaround. I sincerely appreciate that but NO COAN, I don't need your service any more. What about the tough "no permit no oil" proposition just now? Why suddenly you guys agreed to fill up my tank?
TL;DR version of this whole drama: COAN messed up my appointment by promising a Saturday oil delivery that I urgently needed, whereas they don't even work on weekends in April. Instead of an explanation or apology, they blamed me for not having an oil tank permit ready in a lecturing attitude. Victim-blaming and double standards are the impressive tricks they use to cover their own mistakes, which is also a life lesson I learned from them as a new home owner.Helpful 7Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Review R.MA, MA04Jan 14, 2021
The WORST company. All the employees here work with each other to talk and gang up on you. If you're disappointed, frustrated or have a complaint, you don't matter. They lie and literally make up stories and do not let you talk to the owner or people you request to speak with. They post on their website that the customer is the most important person, but trust me when I tell you, they do not value or respect their customers. If you order oil and have nothing bad to say, they're fine, but as soon as you're unhappy with something, they're horrendous.

Wow. I needed a new fuel tank in a difficult spot, and the team at Coan, were shockingly good. They took care of all the issues, figured it out, had a solution ready to go, and then they got it all done. They even helped us setting up for us to use renewable biofuels to reduce global warming. I can't say enough good about these people. Truly worry free heat.

Been a customer for years. If you don't need anything they are good but once something happens service declines. My hot water tank failed in the middle of The winter. Called Coan to replace it. The had to send me a proposal before doing anything . Six weeks yes six weeks later the proposal arrives. That means I had no hot water for all that time plus however long it would take to get an appointment. Of course I called another company and was replaced the next day it was winter and I had no hot water but Coan didn't think that was a concern. Want oil tank replaced here we go again with mailing a proposal it's been 3 weeks and again already replaced by another company. Think it is time to take my business elsewhere.

Had a service contract for 5 years. Each year during the annual service of our heating system the tech informed us that the system was good to go. Last service conducted on 1 Feb with the service tag checked that the system was "Good". Home inspector in the following week found the oil tank leaking and the heating coil for hot water leaking. Oil tank had to be immediately replaced to prevent catastrophic failure. Be weary during annual service inspections as tech's may not be looking at entire system.
On a positive note, tech's who arrived to inspect/replace coil and tank were very good, staff at Coan was very responsive and quick to assist.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Janessa H.Natick, MA02Aug 8, 2018
Had a horrible experience. Called in March when I bought a house they took all my information the last the paperwork. Reading the oil has not been filled I called back and they said I can't have an automatic fill and they quoted wrong prices. Terrible customer service clearly they don't want me as a customer.

Coan Oil charged $2.29 a gallon for oil when the price is $1.59 all in the area and justified it with service? 70 cents more a gallon? I have a service contract I pay for annually and they could fix service furnace ect.. What is up with this? I have been paying these people for years until my wife brought this to my attention. I called them and they could care less, this is our price for oil ! Oh, but the service? They have been taken me for a big ride for years. These people have made tons of money because my wife took care of the oil bill.. 30% more for oil and they wanted to justify this to me . Am I insane? Crooked is what I call them !!!! Remember ,if you have an annual service contract can't they charge what they want? What are you going to do about it? Think about it. They have you locked in a cage with their oil with superior delivery service,
Right? SSHelpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1
