My wife and I had just finished selling some clothes at Beacon's Closet and were going back to the car when we noticed this record shop. We had a crate of records in the car we were going to bring to Out of the Closet but we went in to see if we could sell any.
I scoured the country, folk, and bluegrass records while my wife chatted with the very friendly owner. He ended up buying about half of our records for 30 bucks (way more than we expected to get!) and threw in a great bluegrass family band record for free.
The store itself is small but with a wide variety of records. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the neighborhood. - Amy J.Brooklyn, NY48256Jul 17, 2018
Owner Mike Catalano has great taste and is like a walking Wikipedia about music. I always pop in when in the area to buy or sell a record or two, check their new arrivals, and chat.

I have an addiction to black crack A.K.A. records and I cannot stop. It also doesn't help when the record shop is fully stocked with my kind of music. From Bowie, Morrissey, Bauhaus, Ramones, Black Flag, Misfits, Depeche Mode, Johnny Cash, and even a $3 Vanity 6 record in my stash!
One of the co-owners of Co-Op is super chill. He's really personable and knowledgable. Sweet of him to understand my addiction, and I tried to have him ban me from visiting again. He didn't want to do that to me though. So he gifted me a canvas carrying bag for this visit and hopes I will return for more records.
If anyone of my friends think I have disappeared, this is usually the spot you would find me at on any given day, spending hours at a time listening to some sweet vinyl.
*They are open 11am to 7pm everyday.

Fantastic selection of super cool records. A store run by definitive tastemakers.
I love Ben's show Tuesday afternoons on The Lot Radio. Discover new music on his show, and then pick up the vinyl at this store later! - Frank W.Athens, GA261007Nov 15, 2011
The selection isn't huge, but is very good. Was surprised by how up to date the Disco Edits section was. Had titles stocked that just came out 2-3 weeks prior over seas....very rare in this country. I wish I would have had time to really dig into this store (will make time next time I'm in BK). I saw a lot of vinyl gold at very reasonable prices. Go check this spot out!
And like I said above if Disco Edits, Nudisco, Slomo or Beatdown is your thing, this is your shop.
**As a side note they had a box full of free 12" poly bags which I helped myself to many of.

Picked up a beautiful, good condition original pressing Sarah Vaughan LP for $20 and a new reissue of Talk Talk's final LP for maybe $12.
All the other reviews are right. Great selection, great vibe, great prices. - Hannah M.Minneapolis, MN229151153May 17, 2014
It was great to visit this little record store. It's tight on space so with just 5-6 other customers in there with me I started feeling a little claustrophobic. They have a great selection of used records but not much when it comes to new stuff.
For someone like me who is still trying to open myself to records and need some assistance, the staff did not try to help me in any way, truthfully I don't think I even got more then a hello. Maybe it's a little better with less people so id give this place another go if I was in the area. - Kristofor N.Brooklyn, NY326293223Jun 3, 2016
I got some great records. They were inexpensive and perfect. I got so hard to find records and they were nearly perfect condition. I could have spent the entire day there. It was my first time here and even though it's small, he has a lot of records. I did notice he had a lot of house records. His sound tracks were very old and movies I never heard of. He had Journey which I was going to buy but I had to order it from Bestbuy. He even have some signed records. I think I saw 20.00 a record for a signed record. Check this store out. We'll worth to see if you need something.

Believe it. Believe the hype. I'll take the E to the G trek any day for this place.
Most easily the best record shop in NYC. A small, well picked selection (both content and condition) as opposed to all others which have a policy of taking any crusty vinyl with cat pissed on sleeves, one of a crateful they screwed some guy out of for a dollar, turns around and sells with a 5000% markup. Not here. It almost seems curated, the stuff they go through and put out.
The prices are also the absolute best I have seen. I'm not talking by Time Out New York/Williamsburg/Greenpoint/Gentrifying Transplant Parasite 'cheap eats' standards (hurr durr $17.50 for a morally superior than you and your colored people culture vegan hummus and soy egg wrap). I was mainly among the jazz and most were around $3. Others, $6 and $8 (the Red Garland double LP I copped). These are working class people prices for once. Even at these prices, all the records are bagged and well taken care of.
They seem knowledgeable, the occasional comment written on the bag. I came across this jazz vocal album by an Annie Ross, to whom I would not have known if not for comment about this person being the old lady in Basket Case 2 and 3. Who would even know something like that? That rules.
Co-op 87 is a beyond a love letter to vinyl as it is not sentimental. It's beyond that disgusting snotty piss ant 'vinyl culture' horseshit. It feels like everyone involved are grown ups who were around when vinyl was the main format and wanted to open their own accessible music store and it reflects in the energy of the place. The gentleman with the short wavy hair and worn in striped sweater was kind and courteous. I bought a stack and I told him I liked the energy of the place, that I can't stand that snotty bullshit at other record stores and he said he completely agrees.
Come here and support this business. If Brooklyn must transform, these are the kind of people I want to see move to this city.
