Unique idea! We tried the Buddha Board Yoga class and it was challenging! Good class overall, burned a little more calories than my usual vinyasa class. The instructor was nice and gave a lot of tips for first timers. It was a little hard to hear at times over the fan noise. Parking is free for first two hours in the Post apartment garage.

-13.5 pounds later, this is why I love City Surf:

      - Classes are only 45 minutes, but you will work your a$$ off the entire time. It can be intimidating at first, but the results are worth it!

      - The instructors teach good form above all. Speed and strength don't matter if you're going to get injured. With other group workouts, the classes are too big for the instructors to watch everyone. But CS does it right, and they'll motivate and correct without singling anyone out.

      - You NEVER get bored. Some classes focus on core, strength (resistance bands, kettle bell, etc.), cardio, circuits, HIIT, etc. And everything is on the board, so you're working out muscles you never knew you had, including in the feet!

      - Speaking of feet... I had foot surgery last year, and working out barefoot at CS built the flexibility and strength back into my foot better than my physical therapist could!

      - They stick to the surf theme, and turns out some of them are actually surfers! Love the surf videos on the wall to distract me as I count down the last rep...

      - It's a community and great way to meet new people. They host volleyball, running, happy hours, etc. Everyone is friendly, and you never feel social pressure/shame for accidentally snoozing through that 6AM class.

To sum, this is the best strength-building and endurance workout I've ever done. I grew up playing a handful of sports, always trying different workouts, but I've never had core strength, balance, and a "leaner" look than I have with City Surf *heart*

Surf City B*tch, surf surf city b*tch. (in your best tyga voice)
I LOVE this studio. It is so much fun. Don't get me wrong, it will kick your ass. But you'll laugh and have a good time while killing yourself. Imagine yourself standing on a surfboard strapped to 3 rubber balls and trying not to fall off or into the person standing next to you. Then add squats, burpees, weights, sandbags and any other torture your instructor thinks you need.
I recently joined class pass and this class popped up and looked so fun. I've tried a few different City Surf studios with in the metro plex. Parking here can be tricky, so be sure to give yourself time to find a spot.
The studio is small. You really need to either reserve a class on the app or through class pass. You can see videos online of what the different classes offered will be like. It really tests your core to balance on these surfboards. It's such an out there concept and I like that I am taking a surf class in the middle of the city.
They will play music really loud, so bring ear plugs! Also don't skip out on the stretching after class because you will feel it for the next few days!
This is such a fun, challenging workout and it is unlike anything I have ever done before. I love that they are expanding into Fort Worth and I can't wait to watch them grow!

I took a class here through classpass and i have to say this place is GREAT. The instructors are so kind and energetic and the concept of doing exercises on a surf board makes your workout different from just the usual squats and gym. They also play tropical house music or other kinds of beach music that makes you feel like you're almost in Hawaii. Wouldn't hesitate to come back for another class! Loved the workout and the boards.

Note: They do not have a locker/changing room. It's literally one room, but that's nothing bad. Oh and the class I went to was 100% young adult females if that tells you the demographic.... I'm sure males come here too, but that was just my class.

First time: super challenging and fun. Mitchell did a great job instructing and getting me oriented. Guided workout at your own level of comfort and fitness. Overall body workout. There are a number of City Surf Fitness studios around Texas so I'll try Ft Worth and Austin as I travel for my job. Innovative and effective!

Boards are "wobbly" to challenge your core strength and balance. Endless Summer movie was playing!
Plenty of room to do your workout.

One of my favorite studios in town! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. The classes are small so you get an intimate experience. The instructors are excellent at showing modifications for each exercise if you have an injury or just wiped out during the workout.

Pipeline and Circuits are two of my favorite classes. Pipeline is targets specific muscle groups and high reps using body weight, and Circuits is a full body HIIT/Tabata style workout.

Disclaimer: Lauren McHenry will kick your butt. Every class of hers I take I think to myself "She is crazy", but her classes always leave me sore for days! (currently sore as I type this review). She knows what she's doing.

Overall, A+. Great job City Surf.

This place is a great workout! Definitely come check it out if you're considering it. I came to a Sunday morning class and it definitely got my heart pumping. It was a good focus on core and whole body exercise, as well as some cardio. It's a small studio, and parking can be difficult if you come at a busy time, but it's a cute space. There isn't too much space for your stuff (some cubbies, some coat hangs), and they don't have a shower. But they have some cute merch! I'm not sure what happened, but the studio was unlocked when we arrived that morning, and we apparently came before the instructor. Either you should have someone working the front desk when classes are supposed to be, or if the instructor is supposed to let people in, I think we would have stood outside for about 10 minutes in the cold. The only other note is that the surfboards are very close together. I'm not sure how many people go to the other classes, but maybe a few boards can be taken away so there's more space between them. I'm not really that tall, but I couldn't do some of the off-board exercises because I was bumping into the boards and/or the people around me. Otherwise, it is pretty pricey for what you get, but I think it's a fun thing to do every once in a while!

I've been going to City Surf for a few years now and I love it! It's such a great workout and the classes are all different which keeps me from getting bored and constantly challenges my body.

For beginners, I would totally recommend the City Surf original class, or Big Kahuna! Rip core is also great if you want to target your core. I don't think I've ever had an instructor with a bad playlist or bad vibes, which is great! The also have super cute merch!

The instructors are all really great! I do think that they need some better training programs for their existing instructors (they're currently training brand new ones) because there are some instructors who are inconsistent on the form for common exercises. There is one in particular that just tells you what moves to do, how many, then she stands behind the podium on the phone/computer until the time is up (most of the time, she can fluctuate). Overall, she does'nt actually look to make sure you have good form or if anyone has questions. She's really the only instructor that's bad with these things but unfortunately, it seems like she teaches 95% of the classes that people that work 9-5 can actually take (early morning or after 5pm). She is always teaching! But she is fun and nice, so it's not all bad!

The co-founders Mitch and Lauren are awesome instructors! Lauren is super hard but it's because she makes sure everyone is doing the moves right! Luckily, lately she has been teaching more classes at the Uptown location. Mitch pretty much only teaches during the daytime or in Deep Ellum as of late but he's a good instructor/motivator as well.

But there are always different classes and instructors to pick from so you can't really go wrong! I would recommend City Surf for someone who wants lots of class variation and convenient locations/class times. It's a super fun, but hard workout!

I came for the legs and butt class. Three and a half stars. Can't say these classes are for me. I was too wobbly on the board and felt like it actually took away from proper technique and getting deep into my squats etc. The studio was cool though and worth checking out if you're interested. I didn't like how the second half of class was without the instructor and a self paced, do it yourself workout. Meaning, she showed us three different moves and then waited for everyone to finish. The instructor was nice, but wasn't walking around helping people who had bad form. It being my first class I know I could have used some help. I think they could use a better sound system too.

I would literally give anything to have a City Surf where I'm from! I travel to Dallas every now and then, and recently discovered this gem of a workout class. The instructors are welcoming yet get the job done (aka leading a great workout) and the overall concept is just plain cool. If I lived in Dallas, I would come as often as I could. Don't let the idea of working out on a surf board scare you - you get a full board orientation at your first class.

This morning I had Collin as an instructor in the traditional City Surf class and it was one of the most enjoyable work out classes I've attended. The City Surf Circuits class is also great if you want a total butt kicking! Can't wait to visit again!
