This is our second time dining here and we again received a stellar meal and service from the City Grill and I'm hungry for more.
John was our server, he was friendly & knowledgeable & guided us to an excellent wine selection.
The lemon sole was melt in your mouth good & for the second time dining here, my husband had the seared scallops with risotto. The scallops were perfectly & expertly prepared & we shared a salad with beets. Wow! Tasty & delicious.
Will we go back a 3rd time? Absolutely! It's about an hours drive for us, but so worth it.
I'm craving the meal right now...so I'm going to make reservations!
And by the way there is a terrific salad that I had on their summer menu, a little bit of quinoa and I added salmon. Its not not on the menu right now (November) but I'm anxious for it to return on the menu next year.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Mario C.Sterling Heights, MI2161Aug 30, 2022
Just okay, nothing was bad but overall underwhelming. Expected more for the price. Good service, not rushed, pleasant ambiance.

Very disappointed in this restaurant. I called to pick up a carry out and they no longer except carry outs. My family and I made a conscious effort to patron this restaurant during the last two years of Covid. And now, we have to go in and sit down to place an order? No more carry out? Very disappointed in this restaurant. I doubt if I'll ever be back. You have lost a loyal customer.

Sam was our friendly and attentive waiter. The wait staffer that brought us waters was super nice too. We started off with the calamari and got it with the spicy sauce and the red pepper sauce. The calamari amount wasn't much, not enough to share for more than 2 people, the red pepper sauce was still too spicy for my mother.
We got the white bean soup, 2 New England clam chowder and French onion soup. 2 spinach salads, Caesar salad, fire roasted salmon, blackened salmon with potatoes and beans, light salmon with rice and beans.
Salmons were all yummy. Soups were all good, the New England clam chowder was yummy, white bean and French onion weren't bad.
The spinach salad with the goat cheese was yummy.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jul 21, 2021Updated review
Chick & company still getting it done. Gotta add Steven, Nicole & Sam to the list of waitstaff hall of fame.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0May 5, 2019Previous reviewAlso, I would be derelict if I did not add John to the waitstaff hall of fame. He is like a throwback to the ultimate professionals one would find at top flight fine dining establishments in cities such as Chicago and New York. Food remains outstanding as well.
Oct 12, 2018Previous reviewOK, so City Kitchen still getting it done after many, many visits. T.J., our fab waiter who's name we now know, has gotten severe competition from his well-named sister, ANGEL, also an incredible server. Far prettier and sweeter than he is, but both fab!
Apr 15, 2017Previous reviewLast night was our third time here. The first was not especially memorable, but not bad. The second time, we had excellent service, and enjoyed that ambience and drinks, but again, I could not recall what we ordered.
All that changed last night! Had the same excellent waiter we had last time (SORRY - didn't get your name!), who was courteous, efficient, friendly and accommodating.
My wife could not decide between the crab cakes and the lake perch. Our waiter said definitely go with with perch. She did - and said it was the BEST perch she'd ever had. I had a bite and totally agree! And both of us love our perch, and are quite picky about it. Theirs was outstanding. She asked to have the caper butter on the side, which was a good idea, because there was a TON of it, and, since I love it, she gladly shared with me.
I ordered blackened shrimp, and it, too, was amazing. Even better when dipped in the butter. My rice was nice, the green beans were rather special with stewed tomatoes, and the cocktail I had was a VERY generous pour. My wife had red wine which was good - and NOT the usual restaurant ridiculous mark-up.
So happy we moved to Grosse Pointe - we have SOOOOO many new favorite restaurants over here. I cannot understand why the Pointes have had such a negative reputation for poor restaurant choices. Can pretty much find whatever you want over here, and City Kitchen is one of our new go-to spots.
P.S. Crowd is a nice mix of young working pros to retirees, with a mix of a few families with kids thrown in for good measure. The bar scene in the front was REALLY hopping early on a Friday night with the after-work crowd, which looked and sounded fun, but we were seated near the back, and the sound did not carry nor intrude on our meal. - Nov 30, 2019
City Kitchen is a sure fire pick in Grosse Pointe for a get together with family and/or old friends you haven't seen in a while. You won't have to break the bank, and you can dress up but don't have to. It's a staid atmosphere but not stiff. They have a nice selection of well prepared fish and seafood. The calamari appetizer was crisp tender, and my light portion of sauteed perch, rice pilaf and carrots was delicious. Desert should not be bypassed. The creme brulee and pecan pie were a super end to a relaxed meal.

We dined during the latest indoor dining shutdown in Michigan tonight. City Kitchen has several igloos set up on their back patio. It was 30 degree and snowing, but in use it was warm enough to remove our coats and enjoy our meal. Our server was Jen who typically works in the bar...she was fantastic. Super friendly and took care of everything we asked for. Food and drinks were every bit as good as they always are inside; we will definitely do the outdoor dining again if the inside dining cannot open. This was an experience much better than expected as we continue to support local businesses dealing with the government rules during this pst year. Please support Chick and the entire City Kitchen staff as they are doing everything they can to provide a superb dining experience during this shutdown.

Chick Taylor is one of the great restaurateurs of our time, has one of the finest establishments you can visit. Flounder to die for, shrimp app is so amazing I order it in dinner portions, though app portion is suffice.
Great bar, great staff, great parking!

Last night my wife was out of town, so I visited City Kitchen with two friends. Our server Nicole told us the specials, and they both sounded amazing. I chose the Tuna as you can see, and one of my friends chose the Chilean Sea Bass. Let me just say that Chick Taylor and his amazing Chef Tom, have taken CK to a new level. Well done Chick.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Sep 14, 2017Previous reviewYou ask why would you go to a restaurant three or four times a week? Well because they simply knock it out of the park consistently every time. Tonight was no exception. Redfish was a special, but our server Steve had it prepared Louisiana style the way I like it. There's a restaurant in #Baton Rouge called #Raffino's which is amazing. They serve Fish Katie AKA REDFISH. Steve had the chef prepare it that way for me. If you've never been here, you are missing out on Detroits finest fish house...
Thank you Steve & Thank you Chick for our favorite place to dine...Nov 14, 2015Previous reviewChick Taylor is one of the great restaurateurs of our time, has one of the finest establishments you can visit. Food was delicious and fresh. Drinks were on point. Better than most of the restaurant in the metro Detroit area. Highly recommend.
