Churchills on Canal Street has a very lively good atmosphere often with lots of hen parties at weekends. Karaoke on Friday's whats that all about!!! Looks like it's had a mini-revamp and has been done up a bit. One thing it does lack and that's cheap drinks :(

It's always nice to find a city centre pub that feels like an old man pub, but has a certain something. I guess, as James points out, that Churchills' something is the eclectic group of customers who drink harmoniously alongside each other. Yes, as an ex-student and generally quite bourgeoise fool, the sight of a scally strikes the fear o' gawd into me. But it really needn't. At Churchills, everyone is friendly and nice, or they keep to themselves.
Though it's a couple of minutes off the main thoroughfare of Canal Street, it still gets sufficiently busy, and never feels empty. That's probably down to the staff as much as the punters, as they are always friendly, and will have a bit of banter with pretty much anyone.
As Alexandra says, it's always nice to find £3 doubles in the city centre, and even nicer when they're done well. I had a cracking G&T here a few weeks back, and will certainly be returning for moe. Though perhaps not on a Sunday. Once you've seen a 6'5" drag queen do Back to Black, your karaeoke mojo somewhat shrivels...Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - james b.Manchester, United Kingdom13489478Sep 25, 2009First to Review
To be honest, I'm not really sure if this is a really good pub or a really good novelty kind-of-straight-Canal-St pub.
It doesn't really matter, because when I see skinheads and scallies enjoying a pint next to drag queens and leather wearing elderly chaps (no pun intended) it always brings a tear to my eye.
What a progressed and civilized gang of drunks we are.
Karaoke, cask ale, pub food, pub decor- ohhhh yes.
Word of advice- do not approach the DJ, I'm sure he bites.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - alexandra s.Manchester, United Kingdom7375403Sep 29, 2009
This place has a great atmosphere and the staff are really friendly. As you may have noticed by now I do love a bit of karaoke from time to time and this one has got one....on a Sunday.
I am getting close to finding a pub that has karaoke for each and every night of the week should I so fancy it.
Was particularly happy to find a place that serves doubles for £3 in Manchester city centre. Tip: Get here early on a Sunday if you want to sing the place quickly packs out.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Angela C.Wigan, United Kingdom127109645May 17, 2015

Depending what you want on Canal Street this Bar might be ok, but not for me, its crowd is mainly Hen parties, Big Groups and a load of guys trying to sing really bad karaoke, the bar staff seem a bit arrogant and drinks are very expensive for what it is, I think the last time i went in it was £3.50 a pint.
It always looked packed out on a saturday night with Drag Queens doing the commentary and Djing playing all the top 40 music its very camp but thats what it is.
But ill be staying well clear of this bar in the future.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Francesca M.Manchester, United Kingdom54Apr 3, 2015
Been a regular here for 7 years!! Churchills is my home, such a warm welcome everyrtime I go in. When I am here all my troubles melt away. Friendly staff that have become really good friends of mine, I have had some of the best times in there, especially watching the cabaret over the years, and it's great if you love a good sing-song, and here is the important bit, in my opinion Churchills is the safest place to be with the cleanest toilets. What you waiting for get down there!!!

Churchill's is KARAOKE KARAOKE KARAOKE. It is a vibrant, modern, gay bar with a mixed crowd. Karaoke is the main theme in this bar and all comers are welcome most nights, but that said there is a regular crowd that sing most evenings.
It can get very busy and difficult to move around and get served, but this proves that it is a popular place. Their drink prices are competitive but due to the popularity of the bar don't always expect a friendly face serving you, but rather an efficient face.
Churchill's has been an established gay bar in the village for many a year and ideally place on canal street.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - James C.Manchester, United Kingdom1454371462Dec 14, 2014
Churchills is not the best bar in Manchester's gay village by a long way. However it ticks enough boxes for an occasional visit. It's great location make it a good meeting point to start a night off but it's not somewhere to stay all evening. A pint of Fosters was £3.70. A glass of wine and a double house vodka with coke was £8. Not the cheapest considering the fairly run down surroundings.

Not my favourite place on Canal Street, it's a little faded and dirty, but the drinks are reasonably priced and it's less pretentious than some of the other options! Music can be camp - but that's why I like it!!
