Stop in at Melrose Fl to Chiappini's and share in some good times at the local gas station.. enjoy beer, fine wine, cigars and some good company from the staff. A five star establishment that is worth the stop. Live music on the weekends and plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy a afternoon delight!!
If traveling.. be sure to top off your gas tank, pick up your snacks for the road and have a Swamp Head beer!!!
Most enjoyable stop driving across Florida!!!

I first saw Chiappinis on a trip to Hawthorne with my eldest son for a camping trip. We rolled through Melrose about 5pm on a Friday evening, and the corner Fillin Station was crowded with locals. At this crossroads of County Roads 21 & 26 - farmers in overalls, businessmen in ties, bikers, hunters and beautiful women filled the corner - sharing good times and a cold beer. It took me back a couple of decades to a much simpler and happier time.
Since that day, I purposely go out of my way from Jacksonville to Gainesville just to stop here for a beer - sometimes just a soda. Take a moment and enjoy the past - drop in for a visit. You never know what you're gonna find.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Suzie C.Jacksonville, FL671294Mar 1, 2020
Let me start by saying if you're ever in Melrose you need to check out Chiappini's. Stop for a decent selection of beer, wine and cigars. There's a little beer garden on the side and a shelter in back where they host live music on most weekends. Truly a gem of a place!

A funny thing happened on the way to Gainesville..John told me we were stopping for a beverage..at a great gas station..I should mention that we were in formal wear for the Murder Mystery event..he had been coming here for a while and knew I'd love it so away we went..we DID get a long look from the gentlemen at the bar..yep theres a bar in the gas station/general store..they were helpful in beer selection and I was surprised at how many options they had! We walked outside and around the corner and some friendly locals were hanging on some picnic tables under a patio roof..they made conversation with the over dressed visitors like they'd known us forever and offered up a dry seat to me..I heard all about some of the great concerts that happen here and all the artists that have made their way thru this hidden tiny gem..i hope to head back soon!

Uniquely metrosexual this gas station serves beer at the bar permits smoking and handles all your fishing needs. Only is a small town can you find a charming place like this that caters to its local customers without worrying about political correctness.
The staff is great they'll make you feel welcome as you enjoy your ice cold beer.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Peter M.Gainesville, FL274485277Jun 3, 2009First to Review
Chiappini's a Melrose tradition since 1935. It's a gas station. it's a convenience store, it's a bait shop, it's a bar! All crammed into a tiny little old building that is a must stop if you are passing by.

Chiappini's Gulf Station is a gas station, bait shop, general store and bar--so yeah, there's a lot going on at this little place. My friends and I stopped here on our way from wakeboarding at Lake Santa Fe and it was busy and seems to stay that way. It's a local institution which has been around for years, if not decades, so check it out. The bait shop is especially beloved from what I hear.

We purposely traveled to Melrose, Florida to visit Chiappini's corner store. This came out of reading "Alligators in B-Flat" by Jeff Klinkinberg. The place is just as he described it in his book. There is drinking and smoking, but NO SPITTING and NO PROFANITY. Robin and his brother Mark are third generation owners and try their best to keep it as there grandfather created it. What a fun place to visit. Surely worth the time and effort. An earlier time in Florida. Be sure and visit the Mom And Pop grocery store across the street and the Ace hardware down SR 21 several miles especially if you are interested in knives and bird feeders.
